Nyx's POV:
"Here you go, guys," I announced breakfast as Oriness picked up two plates, turning to bring them to the table where the dragons sat.
Though the young one named Valence was quick to stand up, meeting her halfway to take them from her.
When Oriness turned back to grab her own plate with a shy smile on that cute little face of hers. Despite living with two women now, Ori has yet to have a proper meal but it isn't a surprise. Ivy and Vivian won't take care of themselves, why would they think Oriness would need more as well?
They're overestimating the girl just because she isn't human.
"So... why aren't there so many seers anymore? I hear your numbers are low," Valence asked a good question that reminded me that I'm still waiting on that information to get back to me. Over the last hundred years, the birth rates of seers have been dwindling. While it isn't uncommon for someone blessed with visions to take risks to prevent pregnancy. That doesn't explain why it seems to be happening all over the world.
"The bloodlines of the seers within the newer generations seem to be weaker than usual. Their connection with their gifts makes them incapable of being given titles belonging to prophets. Especially since most believe themselves to be normal people born with a natural gift that pushes them forward in society," I responded to him while joining everyone at the table, smiling when I noticed Oriness's eyes looking toward the entrance of the dining room.
Looking for the half-sister who was a bit busy at the moment.
"Vivian got hurt while protecting me and following a request of mine... she won't be back until later this evening," I explained to her, giving the young lady a gentle pat on her thigh before picking up my fork and knife. It's been a long time since I've been able to feed others.
It really feels fulfilling.
"Isn't it strange for a lady of a temple to hang around both a demon and a witch?" The young man chuckled after swallowing a mouthful of food, asking an ignorant question.
"That's a pretty ignorant question for someone born of a world with so many possibilities," I responded to him, noting how that smile disappeared to be replaced with embarrassment. It didn't help how Oriness sent him an irritated glance before keeping her eyes on the food.
Silence filled the air as everyone began to eat their food, no one wanting to ruin the mood
"Can... can you check to see how Ivy is doing?" Leomaris stopped looking at the piece of pancakes stuck to his fork. The complete opposite of Valence, who was now quietly eating all the food on his plate.
"Ivy will be fine, she won't be able to join us until tomorrow evening though. You should already know how restless Ivy can be. The woman would've stayed up another day or two if Vivian didn't go put her to sleep," I gave Leomaris the update, feeling bad for him when he gave me a thoughtful nod.
After she wakes up, there will be a lot to do. Things only Ivy can get done and unfortunately, there aren't any other powerful witches nearby. At least, none that I trust.
"Now, let's eat, and maybe you can catch me up on the war while we wait for them to come back downstairs?" I asked Leomaris with a raise of my eyebrow, hoping Valence understood I didn't want any of his input.
At least, not right now. Because of the young dragon's actions, things have already been set into motion.
And he doesn't even know it.
No one does.
