A few days had passed since I learned what my uncle did to me. I couldn't look at him, or his children the same after.
I sat in my dad's class, he sat in the back reading a magazine from the eighties smiling at the people he'd seen in the Underworld. My dad had brought Achilles back from the dead to teach the class about the Trojan War, and his story. My father always enjoyed doing his job by raising people from the dead to teach for him, and the only reason he got away with it was because everyone still learned the lessons and no one else had access to the heroes' artifacts.
"Now they say Apollo is a nice god. Well that's true until the malaka shoots an arrow into your heel." Achilles said, his curse to Apollo was filled with so much hate that he switched to speaking Ancient Greek.
"Guided!" A son of Apollo blurted out from the front rows of the classroom.
"STILL!" Achilles yelled back.
I drowned everything out as the lecture went on. I was always surrounded by heroes so I already knew all the stories. I knew all about Theseus and the Minotaur, Perseus and the Gorgon Sisters, Achilles and the Trojan War, Odysseus and his Odyssey, and Heracles doing the twelve 'impossible' labors.
I put my head down and blacked out soon after. I started dreaming soon after. I was walking through the Underworld with a woman who seemed familiar, but she was a complete stranger. We kept walking through the Underworld. I could see Charon's hood sinking into the Styx. Then I heard it, thunder, which was an impossibility in the Underworld (Unless Persephone is sad). I saw two flashes of bright light, and I couldn't breathe. Every single part of my body hurt, and my nervous system was shot. I tried to breathe, but all I did was inhale a strange tasting liquid that tasted like rotting food.
I passed out while suspended in the water, and popped awake in class taking a deep breath. Most of the students didn't notice, but my dad peaked his black eyes above his magazine. I sunk in my seat, and looked at Achilles who was still teaching. The bell rang and I got up quickly and walked out before anyone, especially my father, could stop me.
I went to Biology class, taught by Aphrodite, and set my bag down. Aphrodite was talking to herself about some Greek love stories that I didn't even care to know or read about. Aphrodite wore a flowing light pink dress, and white strapped sandals. She had long brown chestnut hair and hazel eyes.
Aphrodite looked at me "Oh look, it's the punk girl who doesn't love." She said.
"Oh look. It's the bitchy god who can't accept that not everyone has to fall in love." I said back.
"Trojan War, Honey." She said.
"Daphne, Honey" I snapped back.
"You would rather die then fall in love?" She asked.
"I would rather be turned into a rock." I answered.
Aphrodite rolled her eyes and turned back to the board. The class slowly filled up, and the lesson started. I tuned out the lesson again. I just couldn't focus today, and time seemed to go by quickly. A class that normally felt like two hours only felt like five minutes by the time the bell rang.
I went to my next class which was economics/business/thievery with Hermès. Hermès was teaching pickpocketing to a bunch of demigods who would probably abuse this lesson. Other than attempting pickpocketing to, find out that I suck, I tuned out most of the lesson.
I then went to gym class, and Ares had an obstacle course set up. It was a giant stone maze. He handed us shields and spears as our weapons, he had a mischievous smile on his face that made him look like Apollo.
"So unfortunately I couldn't get the Minotaur, something about him being cursed to the labyrinth eternally, so instead I got a gorgon!" Ares said excitedly, probably because he was hoping a demigod or two would die.
Everyone was on edge, no matter what gorgon it was the exercise was not going to end well. Ares still had a smile on his face. It wasn't often that Ares smiled like that, but when he did, there was going to be hell to pay.
"If you need to get out of the maze stab your spear into the wall hard, and I will come get you....if I'm on time. Now the goal is to get to the middle of the maze, and grab my banner," Ares said still smiling, "Now go!" He commanded.
All of us ran into the maze like a Spartan Phalanx charging into battle, if only we'd known what gorgon he meant.
