The fields of Elysium were shrouded in darkness, and silver moonlight enchantment. The lake shined bright like a polished silver mirror, like the rivers around us. It was edged with moonlit plants, and it swirled like liquid metal becoming restless from the wind growing fiercer. The lake was cut here and there by streaks a midnight blue, but it turned back to silver quickly.
"So, how did you get that ridiculous name Owl Eyes? Was it your sight or something else?" I asked.
"Something else, when I started school. I was given a Persian helmet in my first set of adventurer gear as a joke. It covered my whole face and head, as well as giving some protection. It was painted blue and white with the Athenian owl, the eyes of the owl lined up with the eyes on my helmet. So when I started going to gym for combat training wearing that armor Ares called me that, and it stuck. I still have the helmet actually, I leave it next to my owl stand." Penny ranted on.
I smiled slightly, and listened to her story.
"So when did you figure out you had powers?" Penny asked.
I laughed a little when I thought of it, it was definitely an interesting story, "So when I was eight I attended a funeral for my friend's grandmother.", I started as Penny gave me a look of 'oh gods' "I looked around at all the graves, and saw everyone mourning. I wanted to help them, and accidentally raised a few ghosts from asphodel. Luckily I wasn't powerful enough to raise walking corpses, or make the ghosts completely visible. It was enough to scare the hell out of my mother, though.".
Penny laughed at my story, and I lightly shoved her.
I looked over to my left and saw Seth "Hey bro, Whatcha need?" I asked shifting my focus to him.
"Well I got my shield back and learned something. Those rangers were undead, and I'm guessing the mention your name snapped the Rangers out of their objective for scouting. That means Thanatos was following us for awhile, at least since we entered Texas." Seth said sitting next to me.
"Damn….that plus Morpheus in my dreams…what's next? Calypso's gonna try drowning me?" I said sarcastically.
I was actually worried however. The minor gods were still gods. They controlled a lot of the world around us, and one of them controlled death.
"Seth. What's today?" Penny asked.
"Saturday night, why?" Seth answered.
"I'm supposed to check in with Apollo tomorrow to tell him how Mary is doing, and was wondering if you could watch Mary for the day until I get back." Penny said checking her watch.
I never knew how I never noticed it until I saw it was on wrong. Penny wore it with the face on the bottom half of her wrist, like most kids of Apollo or most kids of Ares.
"I should probably get to bed. You coming with Mary?" Penny asked standing up.
"In a second." I said.
Penny nodded and walked away as I turned to Seth, "You make any progress on finding the next set of artifacts?" I asked as soon as Penny was out of earshot.
"Not really. Mino's still MIA, Adam's with Luna, and Olivia hasn't left Atlantis since we got back. No one's been around to help me cross out locations, and it's not like I have an Oracle on hand to help." Seth said looking down.
"Ok, any ideas at least?" I asked.
I didn't like bothering him like this, but I really wanted this to be over with so I could just be ready for the next adventure.
"Adam suggested the Sphinx's lair. The only reason I haven't gone is because of how the Sphinx has changed over the years." Seth said.
"Ok, Monday we'll pack up and move out to the Sphinx's lair." I said standing up.
Seth nodded, and stayed put looking out at the lake. He was probably enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Elysium over the dread of Asphodel. Seth always did take after mother like that, he always enjoyed the peace of nature.
"See you tomorrow sis." Seth said as I jogged away.
I waved and moved through the dimly lit fields of Elysium.
