Chapter 53: Interview

"Let me see if I am understanding you correctly. You want to introduce your spoiled brat of a sister as a potential model for Le Ciel?" Shu Li asked with visible disgust on her alluring face.

The two were talking via video chat to discuss a text sent by Miyeon a few hours back.

"Uhmm I'm not asking for you to hire NingNing. Just to give her a chance to audition. You don't have to give me that face," Miyeon said with a laugh.

"Irene, that sister of yours is a little brat. Her face is just so-so and she's short!" Shu Li exclaimed.

"Stella, plenty of people find NingNing's face attractive and she's only 2 centimeters shorter than me. Aren't you being too discriminating? Also why are we suddenly using our English names?" Miyeon spoke in a conciliatory tone tinged with laughter.

"Hah! I'm the chief designer of Le Ciel! I can be as discriminating as I want! And I don't know, I just suddenly felt like calling you Irene." Shu Li answered with a chuckle before continuing, "Anyways! It's my honest opinion as a facecon. NingNing is 'meh'. I would say she is passable looking at most. Plus, her face is too fat."

"…. Miss Stella Wei you don't need to specifically state your stance as a facecon. Also, against what standard are you judging her looks by if I may ask?" Miyeon asked with a quick shake of her head.

"Why of course you may. The standard is obviously my most favorite face, YOURS," Shu Li declared with aplomb whilst pointing towards Miyeon's face on the screen.

Hearing this, Miyeon's expression turned from that of laughter to indifference in an instant. 

"Be serious," she said with a deadpan voice.

"Hahahaha I am serious!" Shu Li insisted only to earn an eyeroll from her best friend.

"Ugh alright fine! I can offer her a chance at an honest audition. Whether she can pass or not is based on her own abilities." (Shu Li)

"En. That's all I am asking for. Thank you Shu-- I owe you one." (Miyeon)

"You can pay me back by taking on another project after the Tokyo collab next week,' Shu Li said in an enterprising manner.

'I'll think about it,' Miyeon said with a light chuckle.

"No need to think! Just use your body to pay me back! I'll let you know when a good project comes up!" (Shu Li)

"Pfft. I'll talk to you later. Bye~" (Miyeon)

"I can already hear the money coming in! Bye~" (Shu Li)

Right after the two best friends got off the phone, Shu Li received a text from Miyeon.

[IamIrene]: Just wanted to remind you. You're not lacking for money.

[IamIrene]: In case you forgot.

[IamIrene]: (ー_ーゞ

[TheStar_Stella]: I didn't forget.

[TheStar_Stella]: But I'm a basic girl, making money makes me happy!

[TheStar_Stella]: specially if someone else is doing the work.

[IamIrene]: I see… Can you remind me why I'm friends with you again?

[TheStar_Stella]: I don't know. Maybe because I'm young and beautiful?

Miyeon spent the entirety of Tuesday preparing for her interview at SunFox. She went over her resume as well as several potential interview questions she searched for online. Lastly, she tried out several business professional outfits that she had brought back from the UK. After choosing an outfit, Miyeon chose to relax the rest of the day, willing her mind to calm down so as not to be overcome with nerves on the interview tomorrow.

The next day, Miyeon got up early, ate a buttered english muffin for breakfast and got dressed for her interview. She wore a slim fit white button down shirt, a high waisted black skirt paired with a waist length blazer and a pair of pointed black heels. As usual, she only wore light make up and she tied up her shiny black hair in a low chignon bun. After making sure that everything looked good, she booked a taxi on her DeeDee app and headed for her interview at District 1.

The new SunFox building in Y City was a warehouse type office with an open floor plan. Miyeon really liked the concrete and wood interior of the building. As Miyeon was directed towards the focus room where her interview will be held, she saw a large couch with colorful throw pillows and a high counter workstation with several overhanging ceiling lights. Upstairs, she was able to glimpse a large work table whereby several people were currently huddled together in a brainstorming session. 

Surprisingly, despite this being Miyeon's first interview in 3 years, she was still able to answer the interviewers' questions (which focused more on behavioral than technical questions) eloquently with confidence. And after completing a short tour of the building, she happily bade goodbye to the employees that helped facilitate the interview. Overall, she had a good feeling about today.

Since it was about noon by the time Miyeon left SunFox, she decided to grab a bite to eat before heading back to her apartment. And instead of scrolling through DaZongDianPing to look for popular restaurants in the area as she would typically do, Miyeon took to casually strolling the downtown area of District 1 to see which food establishment would catch her eye. She had barely spent 10 minutes walking before she heard someone calling her name. Miyeon turned around to see Jesse Evans wearing a white tracksuit clearly in the middle of a workout.

"Hey Jesse. Working out?" Miyeon asked when the man caught up to where she was standing. 

Jesse swallowed hard at the sight of Miyeon in her business outfit before responding, "Yeah. I just finished. Are you out for lunch?" 

'This outfit of hers should be outlawed in public.' Jesse thought as he felt his ears reddening. 'She looks like a sexy CEO straight out of a magazine.'

In fact, that had been a lie when Jesse caught sight of Miyeon walking past the Gym he frequented, he quickly cut his workout short and rushed out to meet her. But he wouldn't tell her that.

"Mhmm. Would you like to come with?" Miyeon asked with a lovely smile.

"Yeah. I'd like that very much," Jesse responded with a charming smile of his own.
