In the Beginning

Even though my friends had explained all that had happened thus far, at least as much as possible, I still felt like a newborn who is starting to make sense of the unknown around her.

As I was trapped in my poor attempt at understanding the huge mystery I was witnessing, I was suddenly brought out of my trance when a gentle hand fell on my shoulder. I turned my shocked eyes up and was startled when I saw that my childhood friend Dawn had now materialized right next to me. I was so stunned that I did not even ask her what she was doing there. All I knew was that at this time, I felt relieved she was there.

"Quite a trio, aren't they?" Dawn asked as I turned back and looked at my friends who had moved away from me again.

"Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought this was possible. I know that I was taught about them, and I know that I have been spending time with them, but this..." I said to her, pointing towards the Divinity before us, "this is not something I expected. I don't even know how to process it," I said, my voice soft and filled with wonder.

"I know what you mean," Dawn said with a light chuckle, and I focused my eyes on her. "No one is ever ready or capable of knowing or understanding God fully unless He wishes to reveal Himself and gives you the tools to do so; not even His Angels, and we are the closest to Him," Dawn said letting out a laugh.

It was at that point that I finally connected the dots and understood who Dawn really was.

"Are you my Angel?" I asked.

She smiled at me and nodded her head.

"Yes, that I am. I am your Guardian Angel, and I have been with you from the start. Even when you chose to push God away from your life, when you thought God was nothing more than an obstacle to your becoming the person you wished to be, I remained there, right next to you, praying for you and trying my best to guide you because God wished this to be so. Until the very end, when you made that fateful choice, I accompanied you and cried alongside you."

I was shocked by what Dawn was telling me because deep within me I knew there was an underlying message in her words. The problem for me was that if I accepted what she was trying to make me understand, everything would capsize in me.

"Are you telling me that we have never been alone then? That there has always been someone there for us? Who are you Angels anyways and why do you stay by our sides?"

"I am impressed that you haven't yet figured out the answer to your first question, Emily, even after all you have seen and experienced. But the answer is no. You humans, and especially you, Emily, have never been left alone. God created Angels to serve Him by performing different tasks that involve establishing either a bridge of communication with Him through us or becoming companions to you. These companions are known as Guardian Angels, and that is what I have been for you from the moment you were conceived. In fact, all human beings have a Guardian Angel assigned to them."

"But why? Why would God be interested in doing this when we were doomed to fail Him?"

"The first thing you need to understand Emily is that from the beginning, God wanted to bring forth into life a very special being with whom He could establish a true relationship of love. However, this being was set to share two natures, one physical and one spiritual. This being was Man. But Man was not made perfect, just as the whole of Creation wasn't either. While being in a state of Grace allowed Man to sense, but not fully see God, Man was placed into a path that was meant to help him prepare to not only know God fully but also willingly choose to enter into a relationship with Him. We, Angels, as spiritual beings with a full connection and vision of the Divinity, were created, as I said, to serve God, by being your Guides on your pathway towards God. But after sin, Angels became basically almost a lifeline of connection and vital guidance that work tirelessly to bring you back to Grace. To make it easier for you, we are the representation of God's constant presence and love for Man, even after the Fall.

"The second thing you need to know is that original Creation was never meant to fail. In fact, all of what God Created was geared towards providing Man with all he could ever need to reach his fulfillment, which was, to have a full view of God, and to enter into a relationship with Him. But because God loved Man to the extreme, and wished His beloved creature to enter this relationship out of his own choice, He gave Man free will. When the time came, when God asked Man to trust Him fully, despite the devious voice that wished to mislead Man, Man chose willingly to accept the evil voice and his heart became corrupted by doubt in God. This doubt broke the connection between God and Man, and Creation itself, pulled down by Man's sin, also changed. The Creation that you mention as being faulty, and which causes so many people to mistake God's intentions when He created, was never the original one."

"Now, you asked why God would go to those lengths? Why care about humans and especially about you? And the answer is simple. He loves you, and all of mankind, and has loved you from the start. You are His greatest treasure. He loves you so much that He gave you a pretty unique gift. You got to know me in person and thus you grew up with a connection to Him that was really strong. However, when you chose to shut God out of your life, He, accepting your will, moved into the background and you stopped seeing me. This never meant that God ever stopped caring, or worrying, or wishing to reestablish His relationship with you. Quite the opposite. He loved you so much that through different means He tried to show you He has always been there for you. One of them was that I remained by your side, trying to help you.

"However, in the end, you gave up on Him and on yourself and jumped towards death. But then when faced with the terrible fate of being left into nothingness, the last speck of hope left in you challenged God and called upon Him, asking Him for Mercy. And in answer, He stepped in, personally, because He wants you, and others through you, to understand how precious people are to Him. So now, you and I are about to embark together into the most amazing story ever told to Man."

I was quiet for a long time, trying to digest all that Dawn had just told me, and as I did, tears began to leak out of my eyes. Just as I had suspected, her words had capsized my old self because they became the proof that I had been very wrong in my life and it had been I who had caused this whole debacle.

I looked up at Dawn, who had moved her hand towards my face to gently clear my tears, and asked, "So now what?"

She looked at me with gentleness and then said, "Now they are going to show you how it all began, because you, and many others, need to understand that the creation of life, and especially of Man, was not just the result of a whim from God, or because He was alone and wanted company. No, it was because, as I said before, in His ardent love for His creature, God wanted to provide Man with all the necessary means to grow, mature, and become prepared to willingly accept God's invitation to enter into a full relationship with Him."

As I mulled over the revelations that Dawn had made, I turned my focus back towards my friends.

Suddenly, Abraham spoke out with a thunderous voice that came out from the white sea that was Him, and when He did, a golden scroll appeared on Emmanuel's hand. At that moment, I heard Abraham's voice coming out again and saying to Emmanuel, "For you, and with you, let this come to be."

Emmanuel smiled and broke the seal on the scroll, almost giddy with excitement for what was about to take place. As soon as He did that the Holy Spirit literally went through the scroll, and as if it had been turned into a set of fireworks, it burst and became humongous comets that shot out to every single corner of the dark space. Stars and other celestial bodies now came into sight, and I knew that I had just witnessed the event that scientists loved to call the Big Bang.

I soon understood that the story of Creation had now begun and I focused my whole being towards this wonderful event.

As I watched the beautiful dance before my eyes, I became shocked by a thought. The presence of that scroll, although I knew it had been a symbol meant for me to understand these events, placed into stark relief what Dawn had told me. God had not only planned but wanted Creation from eternity.

As I reflected on these thoughts I decided to take a look around me and was astounded by the beauty that I saw. The Universe had stopped being a mass of darkness to become a space filled with energy and light. In fact, as I looked around more and more, I felt as if I had been invited to a firework display. Now, it was teeming with stars and planets and it was pulsing with an energy that kept changing the scenery around me like a show. This energy was being fed by the Spirit, who had been moving back and forth, executing the plan from God.

And then a gleam caught my attention and my eyes moved towards the object emitting such light.

I was shocked when I realized that what I was looking at was Earth; an Earth that had already gone through several transformation phases, but that was still nowhere near to being the planet that I had always known. Its atmosphere was one gigantic mass of dust and dark clouds that only allowed tiny bits of light from the newborn sun to hit the surface and rebound. I also became aware of the massive release of lightning that made itself evident from the glow that tainted the dark atmosphere with sudden bursts of light.

In a mere instant, and without having been prepared for it, all of us were suddenly transported into Earth and the sight that met me almost made me wonder how this chaotic mess had been able to evolve, transform and become our beautiful, blue planet.

From where I had landed with Dawn next to me, we were able to sense that the planet was the most hostile environment I had ever seen. In fact, there was nothing more than a veritable inferno of raging waters, lightning, furious winds, and no visible land. But then a loud voice emerged from inside the Trinity and it ordered the chaos to cease. The winds calmed down immediately, and the waters also became still, as they waited, almost longingly for what would come next.

At that moment the Spirit, evidently moved by the wishes from the Father and the Son, began to move through the water, the winds, and the atmosphere, and as soon as He did, the Earth began to react to His power and His wishes.

At one point, being the normal human I am, I could not help but think that all I was witnessing was in part symbolic and if a scientist were to evaluate what I was seeing, he or she would have told me that this had all been a dream and that the story of Creation by God was more a myth than reality. But the truth was this. Even if the story of Creation was packed with symbolism, this did not mean that there wasn't truth behind it. After all, wasn't it always said that myths and legends sprung from some truth?

However, the problem with most of us humans is that in order to believe something like this, we would need to relinquish our ever-present need to rely on what we can see, and especially test. But since all these events had taken place at a time that science had not yet been able to pinpoint, and they involved invisible and unprovable processes, they had to be seen through the eyes of Faith. And Faith implied accepting truths as absolutes that could not be measured or tested; they had to be accepted as they were.

But now, as I witnessed what was happening right before my eyes, even if I knew that there were still a lot of symbolic events, I understood that what I had been taught and had read had always been the truth but given to us in words and images that we could, as humans, process and comprehend.

I was soon after brought out of my reflections by the words that emerged from Abraham. He suddenly ordered the skies to clear up and to allow the sun to come through, and immediately, the cloud cover began to dissipate, giving passage to beautiful, and warm, rays of sunlight. As the sun entered, the weather began to change, and as the clouds further dissipated, the Earth's atmosphere began to take now the look that I had always known.

My attention was soon taken by the sudden shower of stars that started to cross on the outside of the Earth's atmosphere and to my shock, a small comet became trapped by the Earth's gravity. It was evident that this was the Moon, but it became even more evident when the sun's rays hit it, and beautiful silver light began to emanate from it. So this is how Day and Night, apparently, had been established.

I then became aware that the Holy Spirit had assumed His physical form as Michael, my friend, again, and soon after the others also assumed their earthly forms, even if they were still showing their Divinity.

Michael suddenly approached the ocean waters that were covering the entire planet and placing His hand on top of the surface He ordered, "Land, come forth."

When this order was given, tremors began to shake the immense waters and soon red glows and steam began rising from beneath them. It became evident to me then that the orange and red glow signified that underwater volcanoes had begun to spew out lava and that as the water of the ocean cooled it, landmass had begun to form.

Not long after, this land actually began to emerge into one huge unit and in doing so it separated the once big ocean into several smaller ones. And as the earthquakes continued, the land also began to take on new shapes, forming riverbeds, and other formations that would be able to store up fresh water.

At this point, I saw that the landmass was rich and filled with all that was needed to sustain life, but there was still none and I knew that something was missing; rainwater.

Soon thereafter, Abraham ordered clouds to be formed in the sky and as the sun rays hit the ocean's surface, coupled with the also still active underwater volcanoes, steam and other elements needed to bring forth life began to rise and clouds began to form. Soon, an enormous downpour of sweet and nutrient-filled water began to fill out the basins and riverbeds and moisten the land.

Then, Abraham again ordered animal life and plant life to begin growing in the now dry landmass, and as the fresh waters and the further downpours from the clouds fed the earth with nutrients from the still active underwater volcanoes, life began to emerge.

I first saw, with my enhanced sight, as tiny microorganisms began to appear in the water and on land as well, and soon they began to evolve fast into the even bigger plant and animal species.

In no time, the huge landmass was covered with more than just water; it was now able to sustain life and the wind moved over everything, also helping to shape, change and transform the landscape. Within that wind, I could sense the Holy Spirit's power still acting and executing the plan that had been set in the golden scroll.

As the final stages of the Universe and the Earth's Creation came to a close, I took a look around me and released a breath filled with awe and wonder. No matter where I placed my eyes, there was only beauty, harmony, and peace and I could not help but ask myself how it had become possible for this amazing marvel to be turned into the total opposite.

I knew that that too was a mystery, but regardless of anything, what I was living right now, what I was seeing right now, made me feel replete with happiness. However, something inside me told me that not all was as it should be, at least not yet, and when I turned around to look at my friends, I realized that they had come back together and as one said out loud, "This story is not done. We haven't yet reached the pinnacle. Our most precious treasure has yet to come to be."

At that moment, I did not really understand what my three friends were talking about. However, I could not wait to see what would come next.
