Defeated

Jumping in his car, Jimmy rushes across town. The nurse wouldn't give him any details over the phone except to say Jen had taken a turn for the worst and that he needs to get to the hospital as soon as he possible. An image of his dear friend lying in her bed gasping for air suddenly comes to mind. He then sees the traffic in his way. "I've got to get over there before it's too late." Turning on his flashers, he pushes the pedal down more. Horns honk, tires screech to a stop as he zigzags his way through town.

Reaching the hospital, he races to ICU. Every cell of his being screams in pain, but he didn't care, not when Jen's life is at stake. Leaning against the desk, he exhaustedly blurts out, "My name is James Farris, and I just received a call about Jenifer Cambell.

The nurse taps a few keys looks up, and says, "Your friend coded a little while ago. The doctors are working on her now."

His face turns ghostly white. "Will she be alright?"
