Chapter 14: Late

Cloe shifted her weight, tapping her foot impatiently she gazed about. The morning rays were streaming in through the glass roof casting bright reflections on the bottom of the pool.

She had managed to fall asleep at some point during the night, but to her dismay when she woke up the clock in her room was showing 4:55. She had scrabbled about, brushing her teeth and washing her face. She kept well away from the pool water as she knew she would probably retreat if she saw her reflection. She had dashed out of her room still clad in her pyjamas she had gotten to the pool one minute before 5:00.

A quick glance at her watch that she had grabbed before leaving her room showed that it was now 5:30.

"I almost fell on my face tripping over myself to get here on time and he's not even here." she ranted internally. She pondered going back to her room and was about to do so when she spotted him walking in.

He was wearing blue swim trunks and a white shirt with a towel around his neck.

She pointedly ignored him.

"Sorry to keep you waiting," he said tossing his towel aside.

"Got a bit carried away in the gym," he added when he noticed she was ignoring him.

She nodded.

He went silent when he saw what she was wearing.

"Are those your pyjamas?" he asked holding back a laugh.

Cloe blushed, "I didn't have time to change because I woke up late and was trying to get here early." she snapped.

"Ok, well are you sure you want to go swimming in your pyjamas?" he asked quirking his brow.

"Who said anything about swimming??" she asked baffled.

"What do you mean... then why would we be meeting here?" he asked slightly amused by her reaction.

"I dunno... " she said embarrassed by her dumb question.

"Well do you want to go change?" he suggested.

"No need" she replied hastily.

"Why?" he asked confused.

"Because I can't swim."

Derek stared at her.

"You can't swim," he repeated.

"But that doesn't make any sense," he muttered to himself.

"What do you mean that doesn't make any sense?" she asked.

He looked at her again before slowly approaching her.

"What are you doing?" she asked taking a few steps back.

He kept advancing, she backed away even further but unfortunately for her, the last step was met by air.
