Chapter 7

The weeks following the victory begin to turn in Feyi's favour as she racks up millions of subscribers and views in due time.

Majority of her fellow Nigerians praise her for her skills and friendly online personality.

But of course, there were a few people that did not like where Feyi was heading to. One of which happened to be her mother.

Sure her daughter is now famous and she was there when it all happened but in her mind, she is famous for the wrong reasons.

Of all things, it was that stupid game that put her on the map. A game she does not understand the fascination of.

She needed to do something, she had to stop her and lead her aright.

She walks into the dinning room to find her youngest daughter who was once again playing except she was not streaming this time around.

"Oh this guy thinks he is smart huh?" says Feyi who makes her character dodge an incoming missile.

Mrs Badmus fumes inward. This has got to stop. She walks over to her daughter and slams the lid of the laptop down.

"MUM WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!!" she yells. The old woman does not answer and unplugs the charger from the charging port and takes it away.

Feyi follows her mum and keeps yelling at the woman who proceeds to throw the laptop out of the window.

"WHY?!!" Feyi screams.

The woman glares icily at her daughter. "You realize that you are a big disgrace right? I asked you to tell the driver to go and buy milk but you forgot and lied on him. So of course I must punish you."

"FUCK YOU MOTHER!! FUCK YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE BACKWARD GENERATION!!"

"It is my generation that gave brought you and your generation into this world....."

"SHUT THE FUCK UP MUM!! LIKE HAVE YOU ANY FUCKING SHAME?!! YOU DARE COMPARE GENERATIONS?! CAN YOU FUCKING HEAR YOURSELF!! LET ME TELL YOU STRAIGHT UP!! NO CHILD EVER ASKED TO BE BORN INTO THIS WORLD NEITHER DID WE ASK FOR OUR FAMILIES!! WE ARE JUST ASSIGNED TO THOSE FAMILIES BY GOD!! SO WHY THEN DO MOST OF YOU ADULTS FUCKING TREAT US LIKE WE ARE UNNECESSARY LIABILITIES EVEN INTO ADULTHOOD?! HOW DO YOU FUCKING EXPECT A CHILD TO BEHAVE A CERTAIN WAY WHEN YOU ARE THE ROOT CAUSE WITH YOUR PATHETIC MANIPULATIVE WAYS?!!"

"You dare raise yo-"

"YES I FUCKING DARE BECAUSE I HAVE JUST AS MANY RIGHTS AS ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING!! EVEN MY SUCCESS IS NEVER ENOUGHT TO SATISFY YOU!! WELL GUESS WHAT!! I NO LONGER NEED YOU NOR ANY BITCH IN THIS FAMILY!! I AM GOING OUT THERE TO MAKE A NAME FOR MYSELF WHETHER YOU BLOODY WANT IT OR NOT!!"

With that, Feyi storms out of the room and heads to hers. She the pulls out her phone and quickly types a Twitlonger message which got posted on Twitter that says:

Hello all this Feyisayo Badmus aka EbonyKnight. That last name brings me painful memories because of the story I am about to share.

For the past couple years, I have been a victim of severe abuse at the hands of my family for years.

My mother often appears to be a nice woman in public but the truth in reality is that that woman is a devil. She would abuse and belittle me forgetting that I was born with an undiagnosed mental illness that is no fault of mine.

My mother today grabbed my laptop from me whilst I was playing a game of Valkyrie and threw it out the window. She stated that I forgot to tell the driver something. Funny because that incident happened yesterday.

My own sisters often times hurt me by joining in the abuse and mocking. I understand my place in this family now and I have accepted my fate. If no one hears from me, at least you all know why.

She finishes typing it out and posts it on Twitter. She heaves a sigh of relief. Finally, a huge weight has been lifted off her heart.

The moment Feyi's tweet is published, the world comes to a standstill as many begin to sympathize with her. The Nigerian youths in particular are outraged by this and openly condemn the Badmus family for their maltreatment of the girl, especially the mother.

As if that was not enough, a lot of Feyi's former classmates and ex Badmus staff members come forth and expose the rest of the family and their shady behaviour. This sparks a movement amongst the African youths called #YouthsRevolt.

Chris himself is disgusted when he reads all the details about the Badmus family. "This is absurd!! Totally unacceptable!! Why do these old bastards think they can control us their kids forever?!! #FreeFeyi #YouthsRevolt." he tweets.

The entire Valkyrie community also join forces too and condemn the rest of the Badmus family for their behaviour and also a lot of them offer their support. The creators of the game also announce that they have a special surprise for Feyi.

As soon as the rest of Feyi's family gets wind of this, they immediately rush to the Badmus house. "Mummy!! Can you see what you have done?!! We have been warning you but you never listen!!"

"Keep quiet my friend!! How dare you speak to me that way?!!" Mrs Badmus shouts. Just then, the housegirl Agatha rushes into the room crying. "WAHALA DEY!!"

"What happened?" Ebun asked. "It is Feyi oh!! She is on the floor bleeding!!" The other Badmus daughters rush towards Feyi's room whilst Feyi's mum just places her hands on her head and exclaims, "AH!! THIS CHILD HAS KILLED ME!! EH?!!!"

The others immediately grab Feyi's bloodied body and immediately rush her to the hospital for immediate treatment. News soon breaks out about Feyi's predicament which earns the Badmus family even more backlash. Youths begin to take the streets with placards to protest child abuse.

"WE SHALL NOT REST UNTIL FEYISAYO BADMUS IS FREED FROM HER EVIL FAMILY!! WE SHALL NOT REST UNTIL THAT GIRL IS AT PEACE AND IF SHE EVER DIES, HER FAMILY MUST ALL PAY FOR THEIR SINS!!" Mariam, an old classmate and close friend of Feyi's who is aware of the abuse yells at the top of her lungs.Other kids start chanting, "FREE FEYI!! FREE FEYI!!"

The sisters all break down in tears. "What have we done? All this time, we have been ignoring this girl and only focused on our selfish interests." says Ebun as she sinks to the ground, guilt eating her up.

"I played a part in this. I mean, I did smash her laptop in anger simply because she snuck out of her room one night to take some late night treats." says Sade. "We all hurt this girl. The least we can do is not to control her life anymore. She is a grown woman. She should be given enough agency to live her life on her own terms but no, we allowed mummy to manipulate and abuse her and control her right from day one. We should have done better." says Ireti.

The doctor then returns from the theater. "How is she?" Ireti asks. She smiles. "Your sister lost quite a lot of blood but she is alright. We patched up the wound which will take some days to heal."

"We understand." says Sade. "Can we see her now?" Ireti asked. "It is best that you come tomorrow morning to see her." With that the doctor leaves. The sisters decide to leave only for them to meet an angry mob outside who proceed to pelt them with stones and hurl abuses at them.

"EVIL WOMEN!!"

"YOU DESTROYED YOUR SISTER!!"

"SHAME ON YOU BITCHES!!"

The trio immediately rush to the car whose windscreen had been smashed by one of the protesters. The girls immediately drive out of the hospital. "What the fuck was that?!" says Ebun. "Consequence for our actions." says Ireti. "But we did not harm her." Sade protests. "Yet we are all complicit. "

Meanwhile Mama Feyi was being yelled at by various members of the Badmus family. "HOW COULD YOU TREAT YOUR CHILD LIKE THAT TO THE POINT OF DRIVING HER TO COMMIT SUICIDE?!! WHY ARE YOU SO EVIL?!!" Dr Rotimi shouts.

"I am trying to prot-"

"Which kind yeye protection?! That is not protection!! That is a slow death!!"

Mama Feyi keeps her mouth shut. Feyi may have won this time but this battle is not over yet whilst she is still alive.

That brat will suffer for the humiliation and pain she has caused me. I shall destroy her career.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Nigerian kids camp outside the hospital where Feyi was currently staying, all holding candles and praying for the girl's recovery. They are not alone as other kids join hands with their Nigerian counterparts in solidarity with Feyi's struggle, all praying and hoping that the girl not only lives and survives but also that she gets the love that she truly deserves.
