CHAPTER NINETEEN

I opened my eyes and pushed Kyle's heavy mass off my body, Anderson lay motionless on the floor and so did Smith, the captain and the doctor sat on a ledge nursing their wounds.

Thank God you're alive, the doctor said gladly.

There was fright in my eyes, what happened to them? I asked pointing at Anderson and Smith.

Both dead, the captain announced.

I let the tears flow freely, they were my friends these past five months, they were family. The doctor and the captain also wept, they were noble and valiant men by all standards. The coast was clear now and these men having to die in the process hurt the most, Kyle lay not too far away motionless, I couldn't believe I'd killed my uncle, a man that had been my father these past years, I studied him and found that he was stirring, he wasn't dead afterall. The three of us rose in one accord and walked up to him, I had a pistol in my hand, his men were dead.

J-i-m, he drooled.

I'm here Black Dog, I informed him.
