Ennui. XIII

Warren led Chloe through the streets. After finding her in the caves, she was lucky he was tasked to explore this cave. Chloe promptly followed Warren throughout his expedition helping him along the way.

"How did you end up in the caves anyway? Isn't the capital quite far from here?" Warren asked.

Unsure of whether to tell a lie or risk getting caught, she stumbled on her words. She could get Warren in trouble if she was associated with him in anyway.

Treason, she recalled her father saying the punishment for kidnapping a noble.

He wasn't kidnapping her exactly, but it could be seen like that. Her overprotective father would see it like that.

"Exploring the areas you know. A noble can't exactly stay inside their castle the whole time."

They do, she thought, they stay there for as long as they can then they die and their children would take over and then they die and then and then and then…

"Well if you'd like, maybe stay at the village for a while? There's a carriage on the way home, though not as noble as you might be accustomed to.

You can still explore the place though like you intended to."

Chloe had a compelling feeling in her heart to accompany him back to the village though she was not so sure why.

In the end she agreed, and as her feet made its way to the shabby carriage, she wondered if the guards will be able to track her down; if not, what lengths will her father go to this time?
