Ignoring the Desperate Voice

Here I was, walking my way down the road towards my old shack. Under my breath, I couldn't stop muttering about that idiot Alex. The audacity he has to bring up 5 years ago.

"Yeah, he wanted to say I'd feel guilt about not taking up the mission. Of course he'd know what guilt felt like. Stupid Idiot has some nerve."

Everyone I passed only looked at me as if I were a crazy person.

'You people act like you don't talk to yourselves sometimes'

I took a deep breath, calming my nerves as I kept traveling down the road.

My feet stopped and I froze as I passed an alleyway.

I swear, I thought I heard a shout, a cry for help. I stayed still and leaned into the alleway. I was trying to see if I could hear the shout again, but all the people walking on the road were being too loud.

'I'm probably hearing stuff at this point. I just need to go home and sleep. That's all I want.'

As soon as I started moving again, I stopped once again. There it was again, the shouting of someone in distress.

"Someone! Please!" the voice shouted.

By how quiet the shouting was, It had to be further down into another alleyway. I was actually surprised I heard it considering all the background noise.

'Should I go see what's going on?'

I wanted to, but it wasn't like I worked for the kingdom anymore. I wasn't necessarily contracted to help someone in need. If I was being honest, I was feeling a little too tired to help.

'It's not like it's any of my business.'

Ignoring it felt so wrong to me, but it's not like I was in any shape to fight. As a matter of fact. Even the weakest criminal could probably beat me down. I shifted my eyes back on the road, ignoring the pleads for help.
