Here's the first chapter:

Paradise was no more.

When the forces of Marley came to the Island, their greatest weapons in tow, they were shocked to discover that there was no island. It had completely vanished, as if ripped out of the sea itself.

"This is the work of the Founder. I'm sure of it."

Yet it could not be proven. For the years and centuries afterwards Marley would continue to teach its people about the evils of the Eldian race, and the atrocities that they had committed. They would continue to do so until their own empire collapsed. The countries they had spent decades terrorizing with their own titans rose up against them, tearing apart their own Empire as they had Eldia centuries before.

With no Eldia, Marley was not able to control the population with the threat of the Founding Titan, or the Rumbling. In a way the people of Paradise had destroyed their enemies, taking not even a single life. For you see, the people of Paradise had not died. They had simply gone to another world.

The walled off island appeared in the middle of the ocean in the year 2001. Local authorities were at first baffled by the appearance of this place, but soon fears began to mount that some hostile force was at work. Nevertheless, ambassadors were sent to speak with the islanders.

They were shocked to discover a fairly sophisticated and undiscovered little country. The island, known as Paradise, and the nation itself known as Eldia. Its king, Eren Jaeger, welcomed the Ambassadors with open arms, but warned them that any violations of their laws and customs would not be tolerated. Although at first intimidated by the people of this nation, who had seem to have survived great ordeals in the very recent past, the ambassadors soon found themselves taken in by the kindness of its people, and soon Eldia was respected as being a wider part of the world. Even though the mystery of how this island came to be here remained.

Although the people of the world were satisfied that all was well with Eldia, there were a few that were not. The Justice League, unsatisfied with the lack of explanation of the Island's secrets, decided it was their responsibility to intervene. Wonder Woman, one of the major players in the organization, was intrigued by the island and found herself taking a journey there.

The first thing she was intrigued by the walls that surrounded the vast majority of the populated territory on the island. An island, by its very nature, was a fortress surrounded by water. A wall on an island seemed rather pointless, let alone three. What was more, they seemed to be made from a material that she had never seen before. What purpose could such walls possibly serve?

She chose to entertain the Eldians wish to preserve their King's privacy, at least for now. She found herself speaking with a number of the people working directly below him. Commander Hange, who she knew to be in charge of surveying the surrounding area around the island, was enthusiastic in greeting her at the dock, and served as her near constant companion and guide throughout her stay. She was a tad eccentric, very much so actually, but Diana found herself liking her.

Most of the Ambassadors who had come to the Island had gone to the interior and met with some of the members of high society, a scant few with Queen Historia herself. But Diane thought their understanding of the lower classes of the island were lacking, and found herself mostly wandering the streets of small towns and villages with Hange.

She was taken aback by how happy and laid back everyone was. It had the air of a place that had just seen the end of a great war, and Diana mentioned this observation to Hange. As she had suspected, her eyes flashed.

"Diana." She said. "I would like to show you something."

The southern most city on the island, Shinganshina, was a district that seemed to have, within the past decade, suffered a great calamity. Many buildings and streets lay in complete ruin, alongside bustling streets and markets.

"This is Shinganshina." She said. "Eren's hometown."

"The King was not raised in the interior?" Diana asked, with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh no." Hange said, a little surprised. "No, he married into the royal family… the real one, at any rate. This is where he came from. And this…"

They found themselves in a bustling square full of people. It appeared to be some kind of shrine, or historical site, as Diana observed a number of people staring up at the walls with wonder.

"Is where he was standing when the Wall was attacked." Hange finished. She pointed. "See how that section of the wall is differently colored than the rest? King Eren fixed that, while under attack by our enemies in Marley."

"Attacked? By what?"

Hange's face was grim. "Titans."

Diana stared at her. Hange leaned in closer.

"You of all people should understand." She whispered. "The horrors of war."

Diana closed her eyes, deep in thought.

"I gather." She said. "That Eren is a man who won the favor of the people by defeating your enemies? So much so that he married your Queen?"

"You catch on quickly." Hange observed. "Yes, Eren is a hero of the people. A true hero of the people. Against overwhelming odds… the entire world against him… he saved all of the Eldians and brought us here, to your world. As a result, he's very beloved by the people."

"He's quite reclusive." Diana commented.

"He's just being careful." Hange said. "There are concerns about our place in your world. Those who have come before you have expressed them. But all Eldia desires is peace."

"I believe it." Diana said. Other than the surprising appearance of an island, completely out of nowhere, Eldia had done nothing to antagonize any of its neighbors. "But perhaps it is time that King Eren makes a formal appearance, on the global stage."

"I agree." Hange said. "And my opinion is that it should be you. You are Princess of the Amazons… are you not?"

"I have relinquished my claim to the throne."

"In order to serve the world at large." Hange said. "There is no better person than you, truly. Please… I beg of you. I want you to meet with Eren."

And so, Diana agreed. She cancelled her plans to visit other sites among the walls and found herself heading for the interior. Again, she found herself noting the clear signs of conflict in the area. She had seen enough of the island by now to feel certain that whatever Eren had done, it had brought peace and prosperity to this country.

It took some time to arrange a meeting with Eren. In the meantime Diana was introduced to Captain Levi, said to be the strongest warrior on Eldia. Armin Arlet, chief strategist and tactician. And Sasha Blouse, who most everyone tended to refer to her simply as 'potato girl.' And finally, she had the opportunity to sit down with Queen Historia for some time.

"My apologies in keeping you waiting so long." Historia told her. "Both of us have been very busy." She certainly looked it, Diana thought. She was heavily pregnant, with bags under her eyes and yawning in between every sip of tea. However she was a fantastic host, and very kind. They spent a lot of time discussing Eldia's situation. Its people, its leaders, and finally… its history.

"In the very recent past, our people were brainwashed." Historia explained, as she poured more tea for herself. "As they understood it, the entire world had been ravaged. Humanity had been completely wiped out, save for the survivors behind these three walls."

Diana listened intently, her gaze fixated on Historia.

"But this was untrue." Historia continued. "Humanity had not perished."

Her hands were shaking somewhat, although she seemed rather composed. Diana could tell she was withholding some great emotion.

"Humanity." She said. "Kept us locked behind these walls, hoping that we would someday die. Our enemies hate us more deeply than you could possibly imagine. My father… and my entire family, I believe… allowed it to happen. They were content to languish behind these walls and do nothing as our enemies built up their armies to wipe us all out."

"But Eren stopped them."

"He did not." Historia denied. Diana raised an eyebrow. "Eren is a great man." She said. "And could have stopped them…rather easily, in fact, with my help. But the cost of doing so would be too great."

"The cost?"

"Human lives." She said. "We do not want war. Not now, or ever. And so it was decided that the people of Eldia must withdraw from the world entirely."

"You came here to avoid a war?"

"To stop the war that had never really stopped." Historia said. "You must understand… Al of the world was our enemy. Either we would have to kill all those who wanted to destroy us, or allow ourselves to be killed. In the end we realized that there was a peaceful solution."

"Kill them all?"

"The entire world was our enemy." Historia said flatly. "They would not stop until we were no more."

She didn't seem to want to talk more about it. Diana suspected that it was a cultural feeling so ingrained within them, as a people, it was difficult to explain to outsiders. Yet she found herself more and more excited to finally have the opportunity to speak to this Eren.

The day finally came. She was greeted by Hange, and led through the Capital City at the heart of the walls to the throne room.

And there he was, staring down at her from his throne. On one side stood Armin, who she had met already. And on the other was his bodyguard and confidant, Mikasa Ackerman. Who, it was said, he trusted above all others.

"Princess Diana." Eren said. "Welcome."

He was a sallow faced man. He looked tired and haggered. Diana would have been able to tell at a glance that he had won the throne through combat and making harsh decisions, ones that he likely regretted. Nevertheless he spoke to her cordially, and succinctly.

"Eldia is a free country." He said. "I intend for the Eldians to spread throughout the world, and do as they wish."

He never spoke of the nation as being his own, or as being any kind of authority figure. He saw himself, Diana was sure, as someone who had had the throne thrust upon him. At the end of their meeting she found herself respecting him. She promised to inform Superman, and the Justice League, of Eldia's desire for peace.

"I think he liked you." Hange confided in her, as they left the throne room.

"Or maybe he's happy that he can finally live in peace." She said. "I will do everything in my power to ensure that you do."

Hange smiled at her.

Eren and Historia made time to see her off personally at the dock when it was time for her to leave the country.

"Please come back and visit us soon." Historia said anxiously, gripping her hand tightly. "Perhaps some of your friends in the Justice League would like to visit…."

"Our home isn't a vacation spot, Historia." Eren said. She gave him a loot, and was about to retort, when a shot from a rifle filled the air.

Diana acted with thinking. She deflected the bullet away from Eren with her gauntlets. The crowd around them began drawing swords, as a small shape darted away into the streets.

"Gabi." Eren said, sounding almost bored at the fact he had almost just been assassinated.

"Who?" Diana demanded.

"A Marleyan sympathizer." Historia explained, her eyes wide. She was staring at her wrists in awe.

"Eren." Mikasa said. "Let me kill her. Please."

"No." Eren said, his voice cold. "She is Eldian. I want her to live."

"Eren, she's dangerous." Mikasa fired back. "Throw her in prison, at least."

"She is free." Eren said. "To do as she likes."

Diana stared at him. Historia looked a little put off by this opinion.

"Eren, I think we should get back to the Castle." She said, a little bit anxiously. She gripped his arm and tugged. "Diana… thank you so much. We won't forget this, I promise you."

Most people would have been put off by the idea at killing a would be assassin in cold blood. But in Diana's eyes, it was strange not to. It was not her decision to make, however, and bid her goodbyes and left the island as planned.

She watched the island become a distant speck on the horizon, her mind on what had just happened. She had thought King Eren was universally beloved by his people during her short stay on the island, but that clearly was not the case. Yet he had allowed the rebel to leave, despite clearly knowing who it had been and what they had been trying to accomplish. It was all very odd.

Eldia would be a country to watch, in the future.
