"It's not your fault." Aunt Beth called out to me. The cold breeze caused goosebumps to arise on my blood covered arms, I heard Beth's voice, but she's nowhere in sight.. The field had lifeless bodies in it, from demons to humans. I stood over three familiar faces, but I can't wrap my head around who they were...
"Wake up." One of the familiar corpses shouted.
I woke up from the nightmare, in a panic. Trying to recollect my breathing, I look at the clock. I'm late to school. I spend a few minutes calming myself down before getting dressed. I threw on a white tee and black sweatpants. Grabbing my bookbag, I created a quick portal to the back field of my school. I jumped in and was welcomed by my PE teacher.
"Late again, Ms. Viotto? You know the rules." Mr. James crossed his arms.
"I know...can I get off the hook? Please? " I practically begged him.
"Fine, only because you're a good student. Stop coming so late." He patted me on my back before walking back into the school. I walked into the school, heading towards my chemistry class. From a distance I see the one and only, Grey Caine. Anyone with a brain would know who he is. His parents are one of the top sorcerers, next to my parents. They were on the good side though.
"Hey Vio. Late to class, again?" He called out as soon as I walked by him.
"Totally not, look at the time. I'm so early. " I rolled my eyes at him before walking into the class. I heard him chuckle to his friend to my response.
"Good morning, Ms. Viotto. Take your seat behind Aria." Ms. Pam pointed to the girl. She had long black hair and hazel eyes. I nodded to my teacher before going to my seat. Walking by Aria, she glared at me before looking back to the teacher.
The next 30 minutes felt like an eternity.
"Class is done, your homework tonight is to read pages 30-33. See you guys tomorrow." The bell rang, dismissing us from the energy draining class. I pack my belongings and from the corner of my eye I see Aria staring.
"Can I help you?" We make eye contact before she sighs.
"Can you not be here? Knowing your parents, you might have something in mind to hurt us yourself." She scoffed at me before walking out. These comments grew by the day, not only by her but from most of the school. There was a rule that we weren't allowed to use our powers outside of our sorcerer's class. The classes ranged from experience and strength. Grey, Niven, Aria, and I were in the top class.
"See you later, Vio." Grey walked by me, taking his opportunity to nudge my shoulder. We had class in two hours. There weren't many kids in the advanced sorcerers class, giving all of us some sort of opportunity to talk to each other.
I headed towards my next class, Math. She mentioned yesterday that we had partners, which was my least favorite thing. When I walked into the class, all of the desks had a paper on them.
"Welcome for another day, students. Look for your names on the desks. There should be two names per desk for your partners today." Mrs. Q announced. We all scattered around the room looking for our names.
I finally found my name and saw that my partner was Niven Hale. "Great" I mumbled.
"Looks like we're partners." He took his seat next to me.
"Yeah yeah, you better do your share of the work Hale.." I shaked my head at him.
"When do I not do my work? You're the one who slacks off half the time. I don't want to hear it." Niven sarcastically defended himself.
"I do my work all the time, you guys just distract me whenever you can." I took out my pen and my water bottle from my bag.
"Fine I guess you're right. However, you can just ignore us. But you don't." He offered me a small smile.
"When am I not right? I can't ignore two loud clowns, now can I? Let's start working on the worksheets." I threw my head down, grabbing one of the papers given by the teacher.
"Do you want to work on the first worksheet and I can work on the second one?" He grabbed the second sheet.
"Yeah..." I started working on the equations. A few minutes pass by and we both finally finish.
"Let's spar later together, I'm getting sick of sparring with Aria. She takes it so seriously and gets mad when I actually beat her." He laughed at his comment.
"Oh, sure. She does seem feisty. The point of sparring is to get better... Maybe your weapons weren't fair?" With our powers, we can create different sorts of weapons. In the earlier classes they taught us to have a main weapon where we can comfortably use it and succeed with it.
"I guess, but this is advanced sorcerer's class, you should be able to defeat your opponent with the weapon you have. Plus, you can change your weapon so I don't see what her issue is." We shared a quick laugh before I agreed with his statement.
"Class is about to finish, please bring up your worksheets with both of your names on it. We will be having this seating arrangement for the next few months. No discussions. Have a good day." He finally dismissed us.
"I can hand them in. I'll see you later." I grab the worksheets before walking over to Mrs. Q.
"How's your partner?" She curiously asked.
"We're good for now. Thank you, Mrs. Q." I place the worksheets on his desk before leaving the room. 11:24 am. This was my free period, and I usually spend it in the Training grounds.
I'll just take a break today. I walked towards the field of the school. I see Aria in the corner of my eye. She keeps glaring at me, I'm officially done.
"What's your issue, Francis?" I walked up to her.
"You're the issue. Get out of my school." She formed a dagger in her hand.
"It's not your school." I formed one of my purple katanas.
"Whatever is going on here, is stopping now. Both of you catch a grip." Mr. James interfered and stood between us.
"Whatever." I mumbled and walked off to the field. I opened the exit door and felt a weird energy source. I summoned Onyx, my familiar. To keep it discreet, I had him show up as a puppy.
"Find out what the energy source is." I ask him before petting him.
Onyx ran off to the distance.
I watched over him as he ran. I had him for years and I'm so grateful for him. I sat in the middle of the empty grass field. Staring at the moving clouds and groups of birds flying by.
I formed a small barrier around me, closing my eyes.
"Ms. Viotto." I heard Mr. James called out. I open my eyes and look back to him.
"Yes?" I slowly got up.
"Why did you summon Onyx? You know you're not allowed to summon him while in school." He whispered.
"I'm sorry, I felt a weird presence and got nervous. I haven't seen them in years, James." I expressed my concerns to him.
"It's okay.. I'm here for you and so is your Aunt Beth. We'll know when they're close. You have class in a few minutes so freshen up and don't be late, okay?" I nodded at him before he walked away.
I walk towards the school and see someone staring at me from a distance. The sunny sky slowly turned cloudy, a light drizzle of rain happening. Before I walk into the school, I form a thunderbolt above the person and cause it to hit them. They formed a quick shield above them.
I quickly walk into the school, closing the door behind me.
"Hey! Want to walk to class together?" Niven walks up to me.
"Sure." We went towards the training grounds on the third floor.
We walk in and get greeted by our instructor.
"You guys are just on time. Today is a free day, the only rule is not to kill each other." Malcom announced to us.
"I'll go change real quick." I walked towards the locker room and grabbed my spare gym clothes.
I changed into shorts and a t-shirt. I walk out to Grey and Niven talking.
"Oh. If you guys want to spar you can." I took a sip out of my water bottle.
"Actually, I want to spar with you. He does too so we're discussing it." Grey responded. He had light green eyes that revealed his emotions, and brown hair.
"Are you done checking me out?" He waved his hand around and started laughing with Niven.
"I promised Niven earlier, so I'll spar with him. You can get beat by me another day." I ignored his comment.
"Fine, I'll spar with the devil herself." Grey walked towards Aria.
"Okay, looks like it's just us. Do you want to do hand on hand or add some magic to it?" I started stretching.
"We can do hand on hand first." Niven got into position after stretching.
We get prepared to fight, Niven strikes the first move. He tries to jab me but I block it and use my free hand to hook him. My fist makes contact with his face, taking him by surprise. Niven tries to get a punch in but I grab his arm and pull it towards me and down, twisting it behind his back. I sweep my leg under his to make him fall forward.
I put my forearm against his neck, slightly pressing on it.
"I didn't think you'd take this too extreme." Niven groaned from under me.
"Oh, I'm not." I let out a small laugh.
I get off of him, and offer him my hand.
"I'm scared to see you use your weapons." I formed my katanas, earning gasps and stares.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to use them. I'll just use this." I put them back and grab a random bamboo stick from the weapons area.
"This is my weapon."
Niven formed a double axe that glowed a green color.
"It's so sick."
I looked at the sharp blades that stuck out from both sides, admiring the design on the handle.
"Look at this." He threw it at the nearby padded wall, it trailed a green color. Once the axe hit the wall it created a little spark.
I waited a few seconds and the axe flew back into his hand. The green trail behind it.
"What was that spark?"
"If I prevent it from going all the way, it kind of explodes. I prevented it from exploding too." He made the axe disappear.
"Wait, that's so cool."
"Yeah, there's more to it but I don't feel like explaining it." He took a seat and drank some water. We knew each other for two years, we just never got close. I honestly don't think I've seen him use his weapon before.
I went to a nearby water fountain and filled my water bottle back up.
"I have to go, see you later Niven." I walked towards the door, being stopped by Mr. James.
"We need to talk, Ms. Viotto." He had a serious tone. The students in the class started whispering.
I follow behind him to his office.
"You're off for the rest of the day, you need to stay home. The weird energy source is getting stronger. An unknown sorcerer has been spotted around the school. " Mr. James pointed to his tablet showing the school news. I felt Onyx's presence causing me to dismiss him. He had no important news.
"Be safe, I'll leave now. Can you let my teachers know?" I asked Mr. James. He nodded, giving me the que to leave.
I formed a portal to my apartment, going in before I could hear what Mr. James said.
I was welcomed by my beloved cat, Beatrix.
"Hi cutie, how are you?" I picked her up and gave her a few pets before placing her back down onto the floor.
'Incoming Call from Aunt Beth'
"Hey auntie, how are you? Did James tell you about the sorcerer?" The other line was silent, I could only hear breathing.
"I'm fine...he did. Be careful around school." She seemed off.
"Is this a code mango?" I prepared to form a portal.
"No. I just wanted to check up. I have to go, bye sweetie." She hung up on me.
I put my phone down, and walked to the couch.
"Beatrix." She ran to the couch and sat with me.
I open up Luku, looking for Attack of Sirens. Putting it on, I hear a knock on my door.
"Coming." I run to the door and open it to my neighbor.
"Hi darling. Someone came by earlier and asked for you. They didn't leave a name." My sweet elderly neighbor greeted me.
"Oh, thank you. What did they look like?" I leaned against the door frame.
"He had black hair, a bit taller than you. He was quite handsome if I'm going to be honest." Karen admitted.
I giggled at her confession.
"Thank you, Karen. I think I know who it was. And don't worry I agree. I can see if he's into older beautiful woman just for you." I wink at her before she playfully waves off.
"Bye sweetie. You can come by anytime."
"Bye Miss Davis."
I closed the door behind me and got set up on the couch. I spend the rest of my Friday afternoon catching up on Attack of Sirens.
