"Hey Peter, sorry for abruptly leaving." I picked up the phone.
"Listen, you don't have to worry. I know that you had to go. How did it go?"
"Well, my two friends saved my life. They also met Onyx which was hilarious. The looks on their faces were so priceless. One of them still annoys me though, without a doubt." I started laughing.
"The one and only Olivine needed help? No way. But I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." His voice got lower.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I just have something to tell you. I can't tell you over the phone so I'll tell you when I see you." My anxiety spiked up.
"What is it?" Hoping I get an answer from him, knowing I probably won't.
"I'll tell you, tonight?"
"Sure.. I'm going to paint for now so I'll call you later, bye." I hung up on him.
I grabbed a nearby pillow and yelled into it in frustration. I got up and walked towards my art easel and placed an empty canvas on it. Grabbing the first three colors I see, I let my hand roam free.
After a few minutes, I stopped painting. Revealing a skeleton with a beautiful scenery behind it. Not bad.
I hung up the canvas on my wall, next to my other paintings. The paintings next to it were a girl in an amusement park, another one has a man fighting off fallen angels.
Noticing that paint all over my hands, I headed to the bathroom to clean off the paint. I looked closely into my mirror and noticed that my silver hair dye was coming out. Do I want a new color?
I quickly put on a pair of shoes and left the apartment, going to the closest beauty supply store. I jog there, and find the aisle for hair dye.
I enjoyed having silver hair because it looked nice, but I want to change it up a bit. I spend the next few minutes, debating on dark purple or black.
"You would look so good with dark purple, just saying." A nearby customer tapped my shoulder.
"Oh, thank you. I'm a bit indecisive so I couldn't decide. Your lashes are so cute, what brand are they?" I admired the lashes she wore, helping her green eyes stand out.
"The brand is Ariam I believe, thank you. I'm Leslie." She gave me her hand.
"I definitely have to check them out, I'm Olive. I have to get going now, but it was a pleasure meeting you." I waved goodbye as I walked to the register with the dark purple hair dye.
"The total is 7.50." I handed the cashier the money.
"Thank you, have a good day." I left her a three dollar tip before leaving the store.
I jog back home, excited to dye my hair. I make it to my building, and I run up the stairs to my floor.
"Hey darling, dyeing your hair again?" Karen popped up out of her apartment.
"Hi. Yeah, the silver is coming out. Are you going grocery shopping?" I try keeping the small conversation.
"Yes I am, my grandson doesn't want to so I'm going." She looked back to her apartment.
"I can go for you? I have a free day today and you can rest." I offered to her.
"You really would?" She asked.
"Yes, I also have to buy some groceries for myself anyways."
"Thank you so much dear. Here's the list and here's 50 dollars. You can knock on my door when you're back." She gave me the paper that had the list and the money.
"Okay, I'll be back." I quickly opened my apartment door and threw my hair dye onto the couch.
I went back downstairs, going to the supermarket. I saw a few familiar faces from school, covering my face with my hand before they can recognize me.
Reading off the list, I get the things that are closest, so the snacks.
I go into the snack aisle and grab crackers, some chocolates and pretzels from her list. I grab a bag of spicy chips for myself.
The next aisle is bread. I grab two loaves of different kinds of bread for her.
I spend the next twenty minutes checking off the list and getting my own groceries.
"Good afternoon, your total will be 70.34." The cashier read off the screen.
I gave her 80 dollars, letting her keep the tip.
"Have a good day." I go towards the building.
Once I made it to my floor, I let go of the groceries and knocked on her door.
"Already? Thank you so much. Here take this." She tried handing me money.
"No, no it's okay. Keep your money." I gave her a big smile before helping place the groceries in her kitchen.
"Thank you again." She walked me to the door, she seemed a bit happier. I wave goodbye before entering my apartment.
I unpack my groceries then change into an old shirt of mine, and went to the bathroom.
I opened the new hair dye box, splitting my hair into different parts. I put on the given gloves and get to work.
After ten minutes, I put my hair in a shopping bag to let it set. I go on my phone and take a picture of the process. I sent it to Parker to receive a message back right away.
'Are you really dyeing your hair again?'
'Yes. Is there an issue?'
'No. You're going to look great. It's just that your hair is going to be so damaged.'
'Sir, I take care of my hair. Unlike some people.'
I put my phone down and quickly get a snack. I grab chocolate covered strawberries from the fridge, and sit on the couch. Putting on some WandSight. I spend the next few minutes invested in the new series before my timer goes off.
I set myself up under the faucet, washing off the extra hair dye.
My phone starts ringing. I let it ring out. Once I finish washing it out, I turn off the faucet and grab a nearby towel. Drying my hair, someone calls once again.
"Hello?"
"Why didn't you pick up? I was worried." Aunt Beth yelled on the other line.
"I'm sorry. I was washing my hair, what happened?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to check up on you."
"I'm fine, how are you?" I cleaned up the mess in the bathroom, my phone clinging onto dear life between my head and shoulder.
"I'm okay. I have to go but if you need anything, you can call me. Bye." She hung up.
I looked into the mirror and saw my hair didn't look that bad yet. I grabbed a hair dryer and plugged it in.
Hmm maybe I should cut it. I combed through my hair with my hands, debating on if I want short hair again. I grabbed the closest scissors and cut it. I cut it right above my shoulders.
I clean up the hair I just cut off, and continue blow drying my hair. Once it's all dry, I brush it down.
What am I supposed to do now?
I called Peter, "Hey can you come over now instead of later?"
"Yeah, portal or bus?" I formed a portal in his room that connected to the living room.
"Well that answers it." He jumped in and stared at my hair.
"You cut it too? Who hurt you." He reached for it.
"No one, I just got bored. What did you want to tell me?" I cleaned the dishes that were in the sink.
"I like you." He casually confessed.
"What?" I dropped the fork in my hand.
"You heard me. I like you, Olivine."
"This is a joke, right?" I stared at him in disbelief.
"Why would it be?" He leaned into the counter.
"Oh, I just remembered. I had plans with someone today. Looks like you have to go, see you later Peter." I formed a quick portal behind him and pushed him into it. Closing it once he fully went through.
My phone started ringing, the caller ID was Peter. I let it ring out, I didn't know what to say to him.
I formed a portal to Aunt Beth's house.
"Hey." I walked out of it, my aunt confused.
"I have so many questions, and I don't know where to start." She put down the tv remote.
"Okay so for starters, the hair. I was bored and the silver dye was coming out. Why did I cut it, I don't know. I am very bored for the first time in a while and wanted to hang out with you. What else is there? Oh yeah, Peter just confessed his feelings for me while I don't even know my own feelings for him." I blurted out.
She stared at me with concern, "Olive honey, are you okay?" She walked towards me, giving me a small pat on the shoulder.
"Uh yeah. Just very confused right now. What're you cooking?" I went into the kitchen curiously.
"Your favorite, lasagna." She entered the kitchen after me.
I opened the oven and the smell of lasagna filled my nose.
"Oooh nice. Is James here?" I looked upstairs.
"Yes, he told me he had a feeling you were coming over so I prepped lasagna. He's taking a nap now though." She turned off the oven since the lasagna finished.
I sat myself down in the dining room, hiding my face in my hands.
"So tell me everything." She took a seat in front of me a little bit too excited.
"Well we called in the morning, and he said he had something to tell me. I was getting anxious so I just free painted. When I finished, I washed up and realized my hair dye was coming out. So I decided to get new dye and I really liked the dark purple so I chose that. I dyed it and cut it randomly because of a new look? I don't know. I watched some shows before I got super bored then I called Peter because why not? He came and I asked him, 'Hey what did you want to talk about?' He took a second but then just casually said 'Yeah I like you a lot.' I kind of freaked out and pushed him into a portal.. But it went to his house so it's not like he'd be upset, right? I've also been ignoring him since then..."I trailed off.
Once she wanted to give advice, I accidentally cut her off.
"And I've been getting these nightmares that feel a little too realistic where I'm in a familiar field and there's a bunch of dead bodies lying around. From humans to these weird soldier things to these ugly demon creatures. All I do is call out for you, and you're nowhere in sight Beth. So I'm stuck in a massive war zone alone and afraid because I have no recollection on what's happening and where anyone is. Once I give up I find three humans, and I stare into their eyes and sense that they felt fear, regret, pain before they died. The expressions left on their faces scarred me. And those faces are familiar but once I wake up I can't tell who it is. So I'm stuck in this ongoing thought where hundreds of souls have died for what reason? I don't know. Was I the reason? Did I influence that reason?" I choked on my words. My body felt limp.
"Please Beth.. what's that supposed to mean? Is it an ongoing vision that foreshadows the terrible event?" I agonized, trying to calm down.
She stared into my frightened eyes with sorrow. I broke eye contact, trying to forget the scene I just caused.
"A lot is going on right now and you can't process it. I can't say this event won't happen but we might be able to prevent it. It'll be okay, Olivine. You're not alone and everyone around you is alive and well." She got out of her seat and pulled me into a long embrace.
"The situation with Peter will be fine. You just have to let him know you have to think about your feelings and that you won't be able to talk for a while." She pulled away, wiping away my tears.
"Thank you Aunt Beth. I'll text him right now.." I took out my phone, going to Peter's contact. 4 missed calls and 15 messages, that isn't good.
'Hey, I need some time to figure out how I feel, I also won't be able to talk for a few days. See you, Peter.' I sent the message, him immediately responding.
'Yeah, take your time don't worry. Okay, I'll wait for you.'
Even his text messages make me feel weird, in a good way.
"I'll be going home now, sorry for the intrusion. Be safe." I gave her a quick hug before forming my portal.
I go into the portal, being greeted by a familiar energy source. The person had a hood over their face, a long overcoat covering most of their tall body.
"How'd you break through my spell?" I formed my katanas, demanding an answer from the person.
"Olly, you didn't even have a spell on it." The woman removed her hood, revealing it was..
"Clovis.."
