I woke up and checked the time, I was late once again. I decided not to go today since my repetitive sickness is coming up and decided I should catch up with most of my school work. Beatrix was in the living room, sleeping on the couch as usual. I tied my hair into a high ponytail before grabbing the vacuum. I turned on some music before starting to clean the apartment.
An hour flies by, and I finally finish cleaning. I grab my phone and see a few text messages.
"Peter: How are you doing?"
"Niven: The work is due tomorrow, did you do your part? Also, where are you?"
"Auntie: James said you didn't show up yet, did you wake up late again?"
I quickly respond to all of them before grabbing my bookbag and taking out my incomplete homeworks. I take out of my math homework and start working on the problems I have left over. The next few hours go by quickly, of me working on the homeworks I have and resting.
There was a knock at my door. I slowly got up and looked in the peephole. Grey and Niven. I opened the door to face them.
"You guys can't spend one day away from me, now can you?" I laughed at their pouty faces before gesturing to them to come inside. They closed the door behind them.
"Why didn't you come in today?" Grey put his bag on the table and walked over to the fridge. He opened it and grabbed a drink.
"I woke up late and didn't feel like going. I finished all of my homework and got to rest. How was school?" I sat back onto the couch.
"It was fine, it would've been better if you were there though." Niven pulled out a water bottle from his bag and started drinking from it.
"I'll be going tomorrow. Why did you guys even come over?" I threw the pillow at Niven. My vision was slowly getting blurry, every sound being more and more extreme by the second.
"Mr. James said to check up on you. Also, we wanted to hang out. You just didn't respond to my texts since this morning." Niven informed me.
"The last thing I need is two clueless guys watching over me. How long are you guys staying over? I can put on a show or something." I opened Luku just in case they wanted to watch something on there. There was a sudden earthquake outside, causing the apartment complex to shake a bit. I looked back at the others, their expressions on their faces tell me they're confused. I looked out the window and saw a few cyclopes in the neighborhood.
"We have some company." I told the others, they both ran to the window. There were a few sorcerers in my neighborhood so they immediately came outside, defending the neighborhood from the creatures. I felt a weird source surrounding the complex.
"Vio, there's nothing there." Grey stared at me confused.
"Yeah there is, don't you see the c-cyclopes? There's a few sorcerers there too, aren't there?" I turned to face the others quickly. I felt a weird ache in my side, causing me to grasp it.
"Vio, there's no one there. What's wrong?" Grey came over to me, worried.
"I haven't told you guys this but, for some reason ever since I was a kid, once a year my magic drains my energy causing me to get sick. It lasts at least a week and nothing ever helped it." I felt lightheaded, the room was slowly spinning around.
"Is that why Mr. James told us to check up on you?" Niven asked, I nodded. The others shared a worried stare before I nearly fell. Grey caught me by the side, helping me walk back to the couch.
"You guys don't have to stay, I've dealt with it on my own before. I had a feeling it would start today and I was right." I felt a sudden breeze, causing goosebumps to form. I checked the temperature on my phone and saw that it was a colder day today.
"I'll stay, I don't mind. Where's your cat?" Grey grabbed a blanket and gave me it. I pointed over to my bedroom and he walked in it, coming back out with Beatrix.
"I have to help my dad today, I hope you feel better. I'll come over tomorrow." Niven left the apartment leaving both me and Grey.
"What else happens during this week?" Grey sat at the end of the couch. He leaned back into it and Beatrix sat on his lap.
"Weak, headaches, cold, sometimes hallucinations and nightmares." I weakly answered him. There was a silence that filled the room when I told him. He got up and went towards the kitchen. I saw that he opened the fridge and pulled out a few different ingredients.
"What are you doing?" I called out to him.
"I'm making you food, get some rest." He shouted back. I moved around on the couch to get more comfortable before closing my eyes.
I remembered a threatening situation. I bolted up and looked around the room. There's no one here.
"Grey?" I tried shouting. There was no response. The barrier, I don't know if it's up. I forced myself to get up and look around the apartment. Every room was cleared but the guest room. The door was slightly shut, so I pushed it a bit. Grey was there with my mom. He was chained to a chair while my mom had her spear in her hand.
"Mother, what are you doing?" I leaned into the doorframe, catching myself before I fell.
"I wanted to talk to you. However, this kid over here wouldn't let me." She put the tip of the spear near his neck, it inching closer to it.
"Stop, please. What do you want from me?" I looked over to Grey and saw the cuts on his arms and face. We made eye contact, his eyes filled with fear.
I tried forming my katanas, but nothing appeared. Damn it.
"I will slice his neck if you even take a step forward. You can't even do anything darling, you're weak right now. If you don't come back, he's dying." My mother cackled at me.
"Because of you and dad. You guys put some curse on me, didn't you? I don't want to go back to you guys." I coughed up a little bit of blood. She's told me about the small sacrifice she had to do when I was younger, and I never knew what it was until now.
"It was to make sure your future was stable and good. To make sure you were powerful." She scolded me.
"Yet, you use your powers to go against it. The best plan for us as a family. If you come back, I'll let him live." She placed the spear on his neck this time, slowly piercing the skin.
"Mother, this plan hurts everyone else. I would rather live a normal casual life. Please, let him go." I fell onto the floor, grasping my side. I looked up to Grey and saw a sad smile form on his lips. I shook my head at my mother, trying to get her to stop. She didn't. Once she almost cut him I shouted.
"Fine. I'll go back with you. Let him go, please." I surrendered to her. He was worth it. She smirked and undid his chains. He ran over to me, cupping my face.
"Why? Vio, why would you?" My mother dragged him away from me with her powers. I reached for him with no luck.
"I'll be back for you guys." I shouted to him. My mother dragged me out of the house, tears flowing down my face.
"Vio, wake up." I got awoken by a familiar voice. I started breathing heavily, looking around the apartment from the couch.
"Vio what's wrong?" I looked up to Grey, confused.
"Are you okay?" He put the soup on the table and sat next to me. I checked his arms and face for any visible cuts and saw that there weren't any. I sighed in relief before pulling him into a hug.
"I'm sorry." I whispered into his ear. Tears started to flow and fall off my cheeks, the fear of losing him because of my actions. He hugged me back, rubbing my back.
"It's okay, you're going to be okay." He kept repeating. I finally let go of him, wiping away my tears. He realized and he grabbed my hand.
"Whatever you had a nightmare of, will not happen. I promise you that." He used his free hand to wipe away the upcoming tears.
"It might, though. If it does, most of you are in danger because of me." I looked down onto the blanket, but he used his hand to lift my head up.
"Don't say that. Don't blame yourself for others actions. If it was your parents especially, they're the ones with the sick mindset. We're strong enough against them." He comforted me through it, letting me realize I'm not alone. He pulled away his hand and reached for the soup and handed it to me. It warmed my hands up, but not too much. I ate some and looked at him in disbelief.
"It's so good." I continued eating the soup, stuffing it into my face. Grey started laughing beside me before turning on a random show. We spent the afternoon watching the show together, enjoying each other's company.
"It's getting late, shouldn't you be going soon?" I stretched before pausing the show.
"My mom doesn't mind how late I come, she knows I can handle myself. I mean, unless you want to be alone I can go?" He slowly got up.
"I'm fine with you staying, I feel bad since you're staying and looking after me." I truthfully answered and slowly got up, I struggled but I did it.
"I don't mind it, really. It's fun." He gave me a little smile. I really enjoyed his presence now, but I didn't want to own up to it.
"I genuinely feel bad Grey." I sighed to him. He shook his head before taking the remote and continuing the show. I leaned back into the couch, giving him some of the blanket. He came closer so we both can share it, placing his arm around my shoulder.
"I can tell Mr. James how bad it is and to contact your teachers about it." Grey quickly paused the show.
"Knowing him, he might've already. Grey, be careful around Aria. I don't want you or Niven getting hurt." I cautiously warned him about her. He saw what happened before but I wanted to remind him...
"I know, I'll be careful. Are you getting tired?" He fixed the blanket. It was a soft navy blue blanket I got as a gift two years ago.
"A bit, but I want to finish the episode. Also, can you do me a favor? Try using your magic." He nodded and got up, trying to form a portal, it sparked and a part of it formed but not much. While he was trying, I felt weaker.
"Okay stop. Thank you. Let's finish the show." I opened the blanket back up for him. He sat down pulling his part of the blanket to his side.
We continued the show, Beatrix walking across Grey to sit in the middle of us. We shared a little laugh before continuing it. She fell asleep with her head on my lap, her body partially on mine and the couch. She didn't shed as much as expected so I didn't mind whenever she got onto the blankets and furniture.
The starry sky was visible from the window, I looked over and gazed at the beautiful scenery. The moon was also visible, a little bit above the other apartment complex.
"If we ever split, we'll meet at the moon?" I heard Grey mumble.
"To the moon." My eyes fluttered slowly, putting the long day to an end.
