What is Your motive

Michael POV

My head hurts. It hurts so bad as if it's about to explode right this very moment. And all I can do is writhe in pain as I find my own arms and legs tied together with a rope. Where was I? What was happening? I had no clue. I could try to decipher my situation but my aching head won't just let me. What do I do in this situation?

"I see you are awake" a voice belonging to a middle aged woman spoke. Opening my eyes I stare at a woman who seemed to come out straight from the sets of Game of Thrones. (A/N: Who here is a GoT fan?) "I'm sorry about the head, I forgot how long it takes a human to heal" she spoke through the scarf covering almost her face. Apart from her golden eyes nothing else was visible.

"You're sorry?" I scoff. This is the third time someone came after me within a span of three weeks. Just what the hell is wrong with my luck? Am I cursed or what? Honestly at this point I would prefer death over this constant disruption of my life.

"I am" She declared proudly. "I simply want to talk to you. I can assure you harming you in any sort was not an aim of mine" she said. I was almost convinced until she added a "... yet''.

"Yet? Why bother just go ahead and kill me"! I snarl at her. The pain was too bothersome for me to beg for my dear life.

"Like I said, I need some answers." She declared. She came to me while I continued to wince in pain. "Oh poor boy, let me help you with that" she raised her arm to touch my head while I recoiled from her instinctively. "Shhh" she hummed as I stared at whatever she was upto.

As the seconds passed the throbbing in my head disappeared. I couldn't fathom until I realized she was taking my pain away, healing me as she hummed. But why was she doing it? Her cruel yet kind nature confused me. "There you go," she smirked. Or at least I think she did. It was hard to tell due to the scarf.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked her, unable to resist any longer. "What do you want from me?"

"I am getting there" she let out a low but evil laughter. "It has come to my attention that you are the Key to Princess of Mafhaelore" she began to explain. I frowned as it took me a moment to realize she was talking about Cassie. Why does everything that is associated with her have such a big name?

"What about it?" I asked back. I was too frustrated to care that she had the upper hand at this moment.

"I wonder what makes you so special," she mumbled. "Tell me more about yourself".

"Like what?" I frowned. "It's not like I wanna be the key. Heck I don't wanna be anything apart from myself. I do not like such mess"! I groaned in frustration."If anything I want to go back in time and stay as far as possible from Cassie"! I scowl in anger.r as possible from Cassie so that we would have never met" I sighed.

"That's interesting" She snorted. "I am so tempted by your act that I am tempted to grant your wish but unfortunately I don't possess the power of time" She declared and cleared her throat. "I want you to tell me exactly what you did that made her realise you were her key"? She asked.

I frowned. Recalling the night that changed my life forever, I spoke, "I just happened to be close to her when she was severely injured. She apparently healed faster than she usually did while she didn't have her powers." I shrugged. I wondered what she wanted to do with this piece of information but sharing it wasn't so dangerous….right?

"Huh" She snorted. "That's the layman version. Everyone knows that being near you increases her power. What I want to know is what you did?" She glared with her golden eyes.

"I literally didn't do anything." I shrugged. "I don't want to do anything at all" I groaned.

"Lies" She raised her voice. "Don't you think I know that you have been helping her all this time to regain her powers. That is correct, I always kept an eye on you two" She boasted. "Why did you do that then? What is your motive? Why would you help her?" She brought her face dangerously close to mine, so much so that I could sniff the musky odor coming from her.

"I want nothing from her"! I sighed. "I just… I wanted peace. She kept pestering me to help her, ruining my daily life until I helped her. What was I supposed to do"? I asked her instead.

"Oh dear, I was under the impression that you were smart" She scoffed. "If I was an ordinary human and discovered a goblin who won't let me go… I'd run. I will run away as far as possible to protect my own life. She might not harm you directly, but she is the reason why you are here tied up in this rotten place with no hope" She declared.

"Clearly" I mumbled. "You see I cannot afford to run away… just like that". I spat at her. "Do you have any idea what I went through just to get here? How many sleepless nights after night I spent just so that I could make it here. I cannot just leave from here, no matter how much I want to". I scowled.

"Well, then you will end up dying here" She snorted.

"Fine with me! Just kill me already, I don't know why I thought I could ever be happy in this life. I was born to be miserable and perhaps it's better to just stop trying and die"! I huffed as I could feel my raised heartbeat against my chest.

"Aren't you an eager one?" She chuckled. "I will kill you… eventually. But now, I think I can still use you", She tilted her head and started as me like I'm a chess piece. I stared at her trying to maintain my blank gaze as much as possible no matter how scared I was.

She opened her mouth to say something but paused and looked at her side. I couldn't comprehend much until I heard some clunking noise.
