There was a brief flash of shock on the landlord's face before it went away just as quickly. 

"Decently my lord," the landlord repeated as a small sick smile came to his face, "what do you expect for a man to do when she showed her knees while washing clothes? She would push up her sleeves to her arms when she would reach for the water in the well. All these signs were inviting my children and other boys of the village to take advantage of her."

"No, she did not!" Everybody turns to the father of the victim that cried out loudly, enraged at the allegations made on his deceased daughter. "She never did it for you but—"

"Silence," was all Tristan said before everyone felt quiet and the attention returned to him, "what's that all that made you think she was exciting your boys and inviting them?"
