Flaming arrow

Szeina narrowed her eyes. She couldn't read this guy named Hunter. How did he know her name?

"Just who the hell are you?" Feeliz stepped in front of her. The blazing fury in her eyes was unmistakable.

She was about to open her mouth when Hunter place a hand over her shoulders.

"There's no time for this," he paused, zoning out for a few seconds. The pupils of his eyes dilated, coming back to its yellowish glow as he gasped, the expression on his face shifting to that of urgency.

"We need to leave now!"

"REEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

"RREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

The ground shook beneath her feet and Szeina didn't have to ask what was happening.

Panic rose among the surrounding people. Everyone grabbed what they could and fled towards the Northern part of the forest, opposite of where they were facing.

With a gulp, Yvann grabbed Szeina's hand and bolted after the crowd.

Whoosh!

The leaves of the trees towering over them danced with every flap of wings the Tronik was making, its enormous body creating a shadow covering the dim light provided by the moon.

If that wasn't bad news enough, the beast called for his comrades. Szeina didn't want to count how many they would have to run and hide from.

One was enough to be wary. How much more two and three and so forth?

Goosebumps crawled all over her skin. She wanted to be brave but thrown into the middle of a battle she know nothing about. Szeina was ready to admit to being a coward rather than die pretending to be wise.

In the middle of the chaos, Feeliz managed to join them, her eyes still showing fury at what Szeina had done.

"I don't know who you are or what kind of relationship you have with Hunter, but I'm only doing this because of his command. Now, run faster. Duck when I tell you to. Amethyst and I will accompany you until you've crossed the veil. After that, you'll be on your own."

"Copy!" Szeina chimed, her voice almost drowning out with the whooshing sound the creatures were making.

Screams erupted from their surroundings as blue flames shot out from the sky.

Yvann looked up and tried his best not to get distracted.

"You forgot to mention that these freaks are relatives of dragons!" Szeina belted out, voicing out her thoughts, her breath getting ragged from running and talking at the same time.

"Less talking, more running!" Feeliz reprimanded, aiming an arrow towards one of the creatures.

Szeina chanced a glance at the camp they had left and instantly regretted it.

They didn't use a campfire earlier, but right now, the entire camp was on fire. Smoke trailed towards the sky.

If anyone was trying to hunt them, that was quite a signal to give away their location.

Feeliz's arrow hardly made a scratch at the creature. Szeina watched as the woman determinedly took one of the arrows from her supply, her hands working individually while her feet continued to keep pace with her and Yvann.

How she was balancing it, Szeina could only guess.

Releasing a second arrow, it managed to hit one of the Tronik. However, it simply jumped off its skin, barely leaving a scratch on the monstrous thing flying over the sky.

Feeliz uttered a word which Szeina would like to believe was a curse word. Pulling out a third arrow, Szeina blew out a sigh, gently tugging at Yvann's hand.

She knew it would be crazy, but for whatever reason, she was feeling what she was feeling; she needed to act on it.

"Can I try?" she asked, receiving incredulous stares from both Amethyst and Feeliz.

Letting out a light laugh, Feeliz shook her head.

"You barely know what you really are and yet you want to try shooting an arrow?"

"Laugh as much as you want but if I actually make that shot, you'll no longer be laughing."

Halting, Feeliz eyed Szeina. Szeina did the same and so did the other people running with them.

Hesitating for a few minutes, she reluctantly handed Szeina the bow and arrow she had.

Not knowing what she was about to do, Szeina let her hands do the work. Positing herself in a stance, she carefully put the arrow in the right place and pulled the string of the bow accordingly.

Taking a deep breath and putting all of her concentration on the nearest Tronik, she followed it with her eyes intently. When she was certain that she could make the hit, she released the breath she didn't even know she was holding together with the arrow.

She watched it sail; the tip sparking with a blue flame as it rapidly made its way towards her target.

"REEEEEEEEE!!" the creature shrieked in pain, its wings catching fire which slowly consumed every fiber of its being.

Losing its momentum, the Tronik plunged down.

"REEEEEEE!!" It called for help. Yet, no matter how much it tried to flap its wings, the flames continued to consume it, making the creature look like a plane on fire, rapidly coming down from the sky.

When it hit the ground, it slowly turned to ashes.

Szeina should feel triumphant, victorious. She should feel better knowing that it was she who brought that creature to its demise.

Yet, the mystery surrounding how it was possible got her heart pounding; her legs almost turning jelly.

"Whoa." Yvann uttered, his eyes not leaving the ashes that danced in the place where the Tronik which Szeina just hit fell, its ashes being carried by the wind caused by the flapping of wings of his companions.

"REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" the creatures screamed in unison, like letting out a mourning cry for their fallen comrade.

"Much as I appreciate what you did, now we just made them extra angry."

Feeliz stated, but her voice lacks the sarcasm she used on Szeina.

Eyes. Several stares from the people who saw what she did had her frozen on her feet. She ignored Feeliz's comment, handing her the bow and arrow back.

"Lucky for them, I'm in no mood to add more to that pile of ashes."
