Masks

Ace laid in bed, staring at the ceiling of his room in silence as he remembered what River said replaying in his mind over and over again.

"You must be tired. And hungry!"

How did he know? We just ate, according to him. Tired, I can understand why he would think that. But hungry?

That boy is hiding something from me. He clenched his fists. And I am going to find out what that is.

A knock came on the door.

"Come in."

"Your highness." Sae walked into the room with a sly smile on her face. "There is a young lady here for you."

"That must be Grecia." He said, sitting up. "Please tell her to wait in the parlour. I will be down momentarily."

"Should I tell the young master?"

"Go ahead." Ace said, feeling the sharp pain in his palm again. Damnit. I have been away from River for too long.

"What about River?"
