This Looks Fun

YOSHIKO never wasted a day teaching Dandy what to learn next. Day in and day out, she never left the barrier but she learned how much life energy she should use in every situation.

One life energy can heal a total of three small wounds in trees, can heal slightly wounded animals, and give back life to newly dead insects and small animals. Two to three life energies can heal bigger wounds in trees, and animals. It can also revive a small animal and a colony of small insects. If she would use five to ten life energies, she can heal almost half of the life in the forest. If she would use more than that, she can more or less heal the whole forest including the lives of the creatures there.

"Then, when I healed the wounded trees and plants last time…" she threaded off as she can imagine how many times did the forest got 'revived'?

"Yeah," Tamotsu said as if confirming what was on her mind. "if life can be stacked, they get a lot of life stacks."

Dandy's face got distorted as she can imagine if that happens. And luck comes down to a mortal being if someone was there, he or she can be dubbed as a cat with nine lives.

"Now that you know what life energy is. And know how to slightly control it, let me test you," Tamotsu then transformed into his human form. And without any ceremony, using his spear, he poked Yoshiko with it.

Poor Yoshiko who was sleeping soundly by Dandy's side, now was waken up by a stab wound on his side.

"Damn this grasshopper!" Yoshiko snarled. "What were you thinking?"

"Testing the ability of our Grace," Tamotsu said as if he didn't do something drastic. "Without the feeling of urgency, she might take the test lightly. But with you, dying from a stab wound, let us see if Your Grace can control her powers."

"Why me?"

"Why not you?"

Yoshiko growled at him and whimpered as the blood splattered on his side. Dandy was still shocked as she looked at the wound of Yoshiko. It was a wound as blood was flowing and Yoshiko was wincing every time he moved.

"Your Grace?" Tamotsu nudged her to get her attention.

Sure, he got her attention but her being was still panicking.

"If you don't heal him, Your Grace, Yoshiko might die, you know."

Dandy took long breaths as she stepped forward and looked at Yoshiko's wound. It was the first time that she saw a wound of someone close to her. She can almost feel the pain and thinking how much they hurt was making it hard for her to do what she needed to do.

"Deity, you must calm down," Yoshiko called in his most calm voice. "If you panicked and think too much, you would end up not doing what you needed to do. Just concentrate on you and they want to help others."

Dandy looked at Yoshiko as he closed his eyes. Enduring the pain as he waited for her. And he was right. If she kept on thinking about how Yoshiko was feeling, she won't get things done.

With that and a deep breath, closed her eyes and held out her hand at the wound. Started her chant and call upon the life energy that she needed.

{A small wound but deep enough to penetrate until to his bones, two life energy is what I needed.}

Dandy then reached out her hand and caught two of the life energy. She held it to her hands, uttered a prayer for the life energy, and put it into Yoshiko's wound.

A warm feeling started to flow from her to her hands and Yoshiko. Light burst from her hands that enveloped Yoshiko. When the light faded, Dandy opened her eyes and smiled at her work.

Yoshiko was good as new. The wound that was present earlier was gone. It's as if it was just a dream.

"Tamotsu! Look!"

"I'm healed," Yoshiko laughed and let his head dropped after seeing that his wound was healed.

"Then we should go to our next lesson," Tamotsu cut the excitement and joy of Dandy. "I need to teach you now how to manifest it to others and control it."

Dandy just sighed and sat back down.

"Isn't that a bit too advance, Tamotsu?"

"The harder the better," Tamotsu answered. "If she can do this, the others will be easier for her."

Yoshiko just sighed and kept quiet. Yoshiko doesn't have an aptitude for teaching that's why he doesn't have a say in whatever Tamotsu will do and say. And to Tamotsu, Yoshiko is just an object to use for experiments.

"This time, when you use the life energy, you will ask for their help. Them possessing another life form to be controlled." Tamotsu then looked around. "Example, look for the root of that tree, then ask the life energies to possess it. If the tree wouldn't reject that possession, you can now wield his roots, or the tree itself to move. Try it."

Dandy hesitated for a while and looked at the tree Tamotsu pointed. She wasn't confident in this as some of the living beings in the forest were still wary of her. Some don't talk to her much and remind silent.

{Just like this tree.}

Dandy thinks that Tamotsu knew that and specifically pick that tree for her to interact with.

{I would fail in this. I can feel it.}

She swallowed hard as she closed her eyes. She found the spirit of the tree and connected to it.

"Good, sir, can you help me with my task?" she asked as she tried to reach. But since there was a barrier, she can just reach a limited distance. "This won't take long. Please."

But instead, to get an answer, the tree spirit went away and gone in an instant. Dandy opened her eyes and helplessly looked at Tamotsu. She did her best to look pitiful. Her big-ole cat eyes, pouty lips, and hands that clasped together.

"Tamotsu," she called with her sweet, sweet voice.

Tamotsu's eyebrows arched before he smiled. Dandy started to smile when Tamotsu walked to her, he sat and put her arms around her shoulder.

"My Lady, that doesn't work now." He whispered and laughed. "If it doesn't work today, try again tomorrow. If it doesn't, then try again. There are many ways to pursue that particular tree but there's only one whom it approves of. Now," Tamotsu stood up and walked back out of the barrier. "I leave you to that."

Dandy just sat there and watched Tamotsu leave her.

THE NEXT day, Dandy asked every bird in the forest to help her and give the tree the best flowers they could find in and out of the forest.

The tree looked beautiful. A worthy to be called a flowering tree.

In the end, it failed.

The next strategy she used was to sing to it. But it got angry as it missed seeing the sunset and the rise of the moon.

Failed.

She asked the birds to help the tree to scatter its seeds. But immediately failed at it doesn't do that. He's a tree and the only flower can do the scattering of their seeds.

Failed.

Dandy looked at the tree not too far away from it. It looked so lonely as it doesn't have any other trees beside it. All of the other trees were behind it or it may be beside it but it was too far away from it.

"What should I do with you?" Dandy whispered as she watched it basked in the moonlight.

"Your grace, let me tell you something about him," the old oak tree talked to her mind. "That tree once had a partner. They love to drink under the moonlight. But now, it cannot do it anymore. See that tree trunk that had been cut. There, just beside it."

Dandy then stood up and come near to the old oak tree. And true to it, there was a trunk that was cut.

"How did that happen?"

"That truncated tree was used her longest branch to catch the lightning that was supposed to strike that tree who was left alone. It was supposed to be that tree that died and not the other one." The Oaktree continued. "And it had been so long since it died. The tree spirit was there for a long time. But as time goes, people stopped praying for that tree. Believers aren't believing anymore. After a hundred more years, the spirit disappeared. We believe that it went back to Yomi."

Dandy was silent as she listened. Imagining how that tree might have felt. The feeling of losing someone.

Then like the lightning, she thought of something she could do.

"Tamotsu! Yoshiko!" She shouted as she jumped down from the roots of the Ols Oak. "Help me talk to Lord Kahaku. Fast!"
