Jealous?

Chapter 48: Jealous?

Raindrops splattered down upon the roof of the carriage as Kalon opened his eyes to see a dark mist outside the window. He looked around the carriage upon hearing the sound of gentle breathing to see that Roah was still sleeping and was quick to pull her blanket back over her as it had fallen off during the night.

He sat down at the edge of his seat and looked out of the window to see that the distance between trees was increasing slightly as time went on as tree trunks littered the side of the road. It seemed like they were beginning to enter civilization once again, and he was looking forward to seeing what the capital looked like.

'I wonder if they will have a palace-like they do back home?' Kalon thought as the road's surface changed suddenly and became a lot rougher than it was before. The wheels of the carriage began to bounce up and down, which shook him around violently.

Upon the change of surface, Roah woke up immediately and yawned before looking over at Kalon and laughing at the expression he was making. He had never felt anything like it in his life and was a little worried about what was causing the carriage to shake. But as he looked over at Roah to see that she didn't care about it, he felt a little reassured, but it didn't stop him from worrying.

"What's going on?" Kalon's voice shook as he bounced around the carriage while asking Roah for her input. But the sound of the creaking wood and the wheels hitting something hard below them blocked out Kalon's voice completely?

"What?" Roah asked as she didn't hear what he had said and then quickly stepped over to the other side of the carriage and sat down beside him.

"I was asking, what is going on? Why is it so bumpy all of a sudden?" Kalon's voice shook again as they bounced up and down in the carriage.

"That means that we are approaching the capital. The king had people lay down a coble path on all the roads that lead to the capital so you everyone knows that they are approaching the capital." Roah explained with her voice also a little as the carriage carried on down the road.

After around fifteen minutes, the carriage came to a stop, and Roah got up to step outside.

"Looks like we have arrived. Come on. I have to go and meet an old friend, but then I will take you to the school to see if we can take the entrance exam." Roah said with a smile as she stepped out from the carriage and then turned to look at Kalon, who was hanging his head between his knees.

"What's wrong?" Roah panicked as she saw him like that. She thought that he was crying that they would soon part with each other, but as he looked up at her, she couldn't hold back her laughter.

Kalon's eyes wiggled back and forth in their socket as his body tried to balance itself after being thrown around the carriage. He looked around aimlessly as his head spun slightly and then leaned over a little more before falling onto his knees.

"You got carriage sickness, huh? How many times have you ridden in a carriage before? It can't be many, can it if you still get sick?" Roah asked as she looked down at him with pity. She didn't expect that he would get sick from riding in the carriage, but the roughness of the cobblestones was something that took time to get used to. She saw how it could be a bit too much for someone who hadn't experienced it before.

"It was my first time. I had never been in a carriage before." Kalon said as he crawled towards the doorway and held out his arms to ask Roah to help him out of the carriage.

"Wow, your first time and you were thrown around this much? I bet you will never ride in one again after this." Roah laughed before putting her hands against his chest and underneath his arms before helping him down to the floor. She then turned to pick up Kalon's belongings and tucked his sword under her arm.

"I will be fine." Kalon insisted stubbornly while holding onto Roah's arm to support himself.

They walked hand in hand through the bustling city known as Mondial, with Roah trying her best to explain how things worked in the city. She had told him about the history and pointed him in the general area of the shopping district and the housing district.

She wanted to make sure that he knew where everything was before he was left alone with no one to help him. She had to get back to the mountain pass as soon as possible and wouldn't be able to take the time to show him around, but she knew that if he ever got lost, he could go to her friend for help.

"Where does your friend live? Can you tell me about them?" Kalon asked with a smile as he managed to gain his balance again, but the sounds of the city intimidated him a little, so he refused to let go of her hand. As he looked around, he noticed that it was similar to the village he had grown up in. The only difference he could see was the floor covered with stone and the walls that surrounded the whole city.

And it was just like he thought. The city seemed to be at an incline and eventually led up to a hill in the centre of all the buildings where a magnificent castle stood and looked down upon the city below.

My friend owns a tavern in the heart of the city. It's always busy and is well known for serving the best food in all of Model. Their alcohol is pretty good too, but you will only get to try that when you are older. He lives in one of the rooms above the tavern since he needs to be there for work." Roah laughed as she explained.

"He? Does that mean he is your boyfriend?" Kalon asked curiously, thinking that it would have to be her boyfriend just because she was friends with a man.

"Boyfriend? Don't be ridiculous. He is way older than I am and even married. There is no way that I would choose someone like him to be my boyfriend." Roah laughed at the absurdity of Kalon's accusation but then looked down to see him sigh in relief.

'Does he perhaps have a crush on me?' Roah thought to herself while looking down at Kalon. She watched him for a moment with suspicion before looking back up to see that they had made it to the heart of the city where she planned to meet up with her friend.

"That's the place there. You see the one with the two cats and a moon above the door?" Roah pointed to a fancy looking building with tables and chairs set outside. Many people were sitting down in the shade of a gigantic umbrella that was sitting in the street.

Kalon looked up in awe. The appearance of the tavern looked like something he had seen in a picture book. It looked both too clean and too well kept to actually have been used, but he saw a faint blue glow coming from it as he looked at the building. He then noticed all of the buildings within the city were surrounded by a layer of Qi and gasped.

Roah pulled him along behind her before entering the tavern and walking up to the counter before resting Kalon's sword against the counter and then lifting him to sit on one of the bar stools.

"Can I help you with anything, miss?" A woman dressed in a green apron asked as she saw Roah sit down. In response, Roah simply lifted the collar to her robe to reveal the metallic badge underneath it. The woman at the bar nodded her head silently and then walked through a wooden door behind her.

"What is that badge? Why does everyone know what it means?" Kalon asked, confused as to what it meant, but another voice called out as soon as he looked up at her.

"Well, if it isn't the great Roah Magnus. What brings you here?" A tall, muscular man stepped out from the wooden door that the woman had walked through and leaned over the bar to look at Roah.

He squinted his eyes a little as he looked at her but then changed his attention to Kalon, who was still holding her hand.

"Hmm… You didn't tell me you had a kid." The man said, but as soon as he did, Roah reached up and slapped him across his face. A loud crash shot through the room as the man was flung into the wall and then slid down to the floor.

Everyone in the tavern stopped what they were doing before turning their heads to see what the commotion was about. The room became eerily silent as they awaited the next move.

"Yup, You still hit like a man." The man chuckled before getting back to his feet and looking back down at her. The people in the room immediately went back to what they were doing after realizing that they knew each other, and that was probably just a greeting.

"Shut up, you moron. I came here to talk about something important. Not for you to insult me." Roah couldn't help but smile as she looked up at him but then sighed as she saw the look in Kalon's eyes. It seemed like he was jealous.
