Adapting 2

The sound of the cricket made him groaned out on the old cushion chair he was sleeping, he barely sleep because a cricket would not stop chirping, he turned and covered his ears as other crickets joined in chirping.

He sat upright and saw Phillip sleeping on a mats laid on a flat rock, he sighed softly and saw Adriana on a cushion chair next to him.

The chirping of the cricket get even louder, he gently stood up to avoid waking her up.

"How are they sleeping when I can not sleep" he said and groaned softly, he tiptoed towards the window, his leg suddenly hit the table and a big spoon fell.

The loud sound of the fallen spoon made the cricket stopped chirping for a second, he looked around and noticed the two were still fast asleep.

Tristan scoffed, "are they dead or something?" He said and shook his head.

The cricket continues, he rolled his eyes and picked up the spoon, he gently put it on the table and walked out of the house, The cold breeze hit his body and he felt the chills in his bone.

"Ouuu it is cold" he said and stroked his arms.

He huffed softly as the sound of a owl from a distant got louder.

"Okay I am going inside", he changed his mind and got back in the cottage, he looked around and couldn't still believe how much his life had changed in 72 hours.

Tristan sat and breath sighed, Adriana soft moan caught his attention. He looked at her and noticed she was smiling in her dream, he moved closer and bent before her.

The gently breeze blew part of her hair covering her eyes and he could see her whole face.

For some reason, he got mesmerized by the way she was smiling, and found himself staring at her.

Adriana chewed her mouth and made a sharp sigh.

"What are you dreaming out?" he whispered to her and immediately she smiled for a second and stopped.

Tristan continue watching her sleep as lot of questions popped up his mind, "what is she really?... who is she? Her stories are not real... I know she is hiding something from me?" He thought and noticed her left leg had shifted from the cushion.

He looked at her as she moaned softly, he crawled towards her leg and gently raised it up.

Tristan got back to watching her face, he figured his heart beat anytime he stared at her, the young man shook his head and looked down her neck, he noticed her cleavages peeking out the shirt.

He gulped and looked away sharply, "What am I doing?" He said and returned to the cushion, "please let me sleep you cricket, can you just shut up please" he begged as the cricket wouldn't listen to his plea.

(The next morning)

Phillip's laughter made him wake up, he opened his eyes and realized it was no more a joke, he is in a old cottage with a creature and a weirdo and their laughter had made him wake up from a one hour sleep.

Adriana watched Tristan sat upright, "good morning, did you sleep well?" She asked excitedly.

Tristan looked at her, she flinched at the bags under his eyes.

He shook her head and stood up, "I barely sleep... the goddamn cricket would not stop shut up and let me sleep..." he said and looked outside the window, "If I find you guys... I promise to kill you, fry you and then eat you!!!" He yelled out angrily.

Phillip looked at Adriana, he moved towards Tristan and smiled to him "you will get used to it.. I did"

"How about Adriana? She slept peacefully and was obviously enjoying her sleep, isn't this her first night here as well?" He asked frustratedly and grabbed a blanket on the cushion, he wrapped it on his body and sighed softly.

Adriana stared at him, "were you watching me?" She asked.

"No... why should I... I didn't" he bluffed out and walked out of the house.

She folded her arms and saw Phillip coming towards her with some clothes in his hand, "I have kept this for years... sometimes ago a ship got wrecked in here" said Phillip.

Tristan heard him and opened the door, he peeped in to listen to his story, "a ship? How about the people?" He asked curiously.

"I am talking about years ago... I am sure those people are dead now...." Phillip replied and gave Tristan a blue wrinkled shirt and gave Adriana the other red shorts and a black shirt.

"This is for them?" Adriana asked as she looked at the clothes that smelled old.

Phillip nodded, "when I took it from their ship... my mother asked why I did that because we obviously don't wear clothes... the truth is I didn't know why but like they said everything have a reason.. it's yours now" he said and walked outside, "wear it and meet me outside... we have breakfast to hunt" he added.

"Hunt?"

"What happen to those people"

Adriana and Tristan chorused.

Phillip turned and looked at them, "those people got a flying machine to pick them up... I didn't know how they did it but they did... some of them came down here but we hid well and they left peacefully... nothing happened, I fell in love with a girl that followed them though" he said and chuckled nervously, "it is probably the worst idea ever" he added and turned to Adrian, "and yes we are hunting for breakfast... so hurry up".

Adriana nodded and shut the door at Tristan who was about to enter, "wear your clothes in there... don't come in here" she said out loud.

Tristan scoffed and laughed softly, "are you kidding me right now?" He said.

"What? You obviously didn't like that I was naked" she replied.

"Why would I like that? Who go naked and doesn't get ashamed of being naked? Only you!!! Weirdo" Tristan said.

There was a short silence among them, she opened the door and Tristan eyes brightened, "how does she look sexy in a old wrinkled cloth? Is she real?" He thought and looked away sharply.

"I didn't know you would act that way... I would have covered myself up" she replied angrily.

Tristan gave a mocking smile, "Why would I not act that way? Y'all go naked in your city? Where are you from? The forest?" He asked and put on his shirt.

She narrowed her eyes and walked away from him angrily.

Phillip cleared his throat, "Ermmm since you two are done fighting... can we start going now?" He said and walked towards the waterfall.

The birds chirp as they flapped their wings ready for another day, they flew over Tristan's head and he dodged them.

"Why do they fly so low.... oh my God why is everything so weird in here.." he frustratedly asked.

Adriana ignored him, Tristan saw her pouting. He shook his head as they got closer to the waterfall.

"The fishes in here gather in that..." Phillip said pointing beside a rock, "underneath there... the water is clear so we can easily catch them... that would be our breakfast and later for lunch...."

"What? Fish for breakfast? Why should we eat fish.." Adriana asked and looked around, "how about fruits, vegetables, something else" she panicked.

Phillip understood her immediately, he turned back and walked away from the water "let us go get some meat then... that is for lunch but there is no harm in eating meat for breakfast" he said.

Tristan shook his head, "You don't eat fish too? Are you a vegetarian or maybe a mermaid!!!" He asked.

Adriana heart skipped a beat, she stared at him for a bit before looking away "I don't believe in mermaids, I told you yesterday... how can you call me a mermaid?" She asked and followed Phillip.

"A mermaid... a mermaid... a mermaid..." he sang as he followed them.

Adriana couldn't take it anymore, she turned to him "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM... YOU GET MORE ANNOYING EVERYDAY, ARE YOU THE ONLY ONE LOST IN THIS ISLAND!!! I AM LOST AS WELL... SO JUST SHUT UP!!! YOUR HORRIBLE VOICE IS SCARING OUR FOOD AWAY!!!" She yelled and kept walking.

Phillip and Tristan got startled, the birds on the trees flew away and loud noise of sea lions were heard from a distant.

Phillip and Tristan watched her walked into the forest angrily.

"That was scary", Tristan said as they followed her.

They got in middle of forest, Phillip brought out his big catapult out of his crossed bag, he looked at the humans and asked them to stop walking, the creature felt the leave rustling and it could be their meat.

Slowly, he walked closer and got ready to shoot at it the second it jump out.

Tristan's heart raced as he had no idea what creature was in the bush, he held on to Adriana's arm and had forgotten they were fighting.

She was too focused and had ignored him at that moment.

They remained silent and Phillip eyes were fixed at the rustling bush, suddenly Tristan loud scream made the bird in the bush flew away.

Adriana hit the spider with tiger skin off his neck, Tristan breathed heavy as Phillip stepped on it and killed it.

"What was that?... how is a spider with a tiger skin existing?" Tristan asked as his loud voice could tell he was about freaking out again.

"They are deadly, thank God Adriana got it out... one bite and you get paralyzed" Phillip said and looked around, "and that was our meat" he said and kept walking.

"Thanks to you", Adriana said and followed Phillip, "can we still find more?"

Tristan scoffed and looked around fearfully, "I almost got paralyzed... and you still blame me?" he groaned out and followed them, watching his every step and looking around to watch out for any scary spider.

"Only if I can see another horn rabbit, those are yummy and their bone are soft... I miss their meat" Phillip said as they kept walking.

Tristan remembered they saw one on their way to the cottage.

"We saw one on our way to you... you eat that? They are cute creatures", Adriana asked.

"What do you mean cute? They have horn? How on earth does a rabbit have horns???" Tristan asked himself.

Phillip felt something and told them to wait, he listened carefully and turned to them, "hurry hide" he said and before Tristan could ask what was going on, he found himself hiding behind a big rock with others.

"What is happening" Adriana whispered to Phillip.

"I figured another animal lives in this forest some years ago, I tried hard to avoid it and he doesn't walk around as well, I think it is coming towards this side", Phillip replied with a whisper.

Tristan eyes brightened on hearing this, his palm got sweaty and his hands tremble, "What... what animal is it".

All of a sudden the animal growled fiercely behind them, it was a harsh fierce growl.

They all turned sharply and saw a black Jaguar standing few feet from them, ready to attack, it snarled and watched them with his fierce light green eyes.

Phillip jumped up, "RUN!!!" He yelled out.
