PARANOIA

It was already in the middle of the night. The stars were already shining in the sky, as the full moon watched them silently.

Eva woke up feeling thirsty. Looking beside her, she found Mike sleeping peacefully beside her. Taking a deep breath, she slowly stood up from bed. She wore the slippers on the floor and went directly towards the kitchen, downstairs.

She was feeling a little bit hungry, but due to her laziness, she decided to just find and look for something to drink. Passing by the living room, she opened the lights in the room.

She was still half asleep, rubbing her eyes while opening the refrigerator, looking for a cup of cold water. But a glass of apple juice caught her attention. Savoring the sweet smell, her mouth watered at such a pleasing scent.

Shrugging her shoulders, she took the cup out. Drinking it until no drop was left on the cup. Smiling, she felt content by the drink she just drank. It filled up her thirst and hungriness, although she still wants more.

Well, she couldn't wait for tomorrow. She was sure that Abigail would make her another cup of it.

She suddenly remembered that she forgot to give Abigail the milk yesterday. Never mind, it wouldn't be long before that child disappeared. If the kid just didn't come back to life when they were in the hospital, then everything would have been over. Everything would be much easier and happier for her.

"Hihihi!"

Eva immediately dropped the glass she was holding in her hand. It caused a loud crashing sound that blended well, with the person laughing somewhere in the kitchen.

Her heart started to take a leap, beating faster. Looking around, she saw nothing but mere darkness. Cold sweat started to form in her forehead.

"Who is that?" Shouting loudly, she held unto the knife she saw on the kitchen's countertop.

In her shock, the lights started to flicker. Opening… Closing… repeatedly.

Fear hugged her heart coldly. She remembered her dream, the last day. Was she dreaming again? Was this all a dream?

"Who are you? Show yourself!" Shouting desperately, she wrapped her fingers tightly on the knife she was earlier holding.

Starting to walk slowly, her breathing hitched. She quickly found a flashlight located on one of the kitchen cabinets. She was thankful that the flickering of lights voluntarily stopped. But nevertheless, darkness greeted her afterward.

"Abigail, is that you?" Opening the flashlight, she pointed it towards her front.

"Hihihi!"

Suddenly hearing the voice, Eva pointed the flashlight on where the sound was coming from. She caught a glimpse of the tiny feet running in the opposite direction.

"Abigail!" Eva called after seeing that the feet were from a child. And for her conclusion, the only possible person to have those is Abigail since she was the only kid in the house. "Abigail, I'm not playing with you!"

"Hmm, but I'm not Abigail." A voice unexpectedly whispered in her ear.

"AAHHHH!" Eva was caught off guard at the sudden whisper. She could feel it, someone was just beside her, but it disappeared when she pointed out the flashlight in that direction.

Roaming her eyes around. She was thankful that she was still in the kitchen. She wouldn't bear it if she would return to that firing place again. Yet, her thoughts got interrupted, feeling a presence on her back.

She was quickly turned around expecting that someone was in there. But she found no one. It was as if someone was playing with her. "Abigail! You bitch! Stop this or I would tell, what you're doing to your Dad!"

"But… Auntie, can you catch me?"

Hearing some footsteps not far away from her place, she started to follow the sound. That bitch of a child! Just wait for me and you would really regret what you were doing.

"Abigail!" Eva furiously shouted as she started to look for the kid.

The sound of a door suddenly closing, made her jump. She quickly turned her direction and went in there, opening the closed door. As she entered, the door immediately closed behind her. Eva tried to open the door, but to no avail, her efforts were put to waste.

"Abigail, open this door!" She shouted as she slammed the door.

"Abi!"

"You're really stubborn. I told you, I'm not Abigail." Said by a sweet voice.

Eva glanced over to the side. Lighting up its direction. "Who are you?" She asked.

She saw a child that probably has the same age as Abigail. The child was wearing a long white dress, reaching her knees. Her head was bent over, bowing down to the floor while her body was unmoving.

The fear she was feeling doubled up. She couldn't breathe properly because of the nervousness. There was something in this child, she can feel it. As if something was forcing her to be scared.

"W-Who are you?"

To Eva's surprise, the girl suddenly rushed towards her direction. She quickly backed away causing her back to hit on the door. The kid walked slowly, approaching her. She was astonished when the kid's head went up, looking at her eyes.

"Give me your soul!" The little girl shouted as if there were several simultaneous voices inside her body.

"Stay away from me, you bitch!"

In fear, Eva immediately stabbed the person with the knife she was carrying still from earlier. Her eyes were shut tightly. As she could feel the pressure of the knife's blade going in, on the child's body.

Hearing a falling sound, she took a deep breath and calmed herself down. But when she opened both of her eyes, the surroundings were already clear. There were no traces of the scene that happened earlier.

All the lights in each corner of the kitchen were already switched on instead of the ones in the bedroom. She was panting, her breathing was rigged. And her knees were starting to bubble up.

And when Eva finally looked at the floor, she was immediately shocked at what she saw. Someone was lying on the floor and it's not Abigail, rather it was their maid, Jasmine. The knife that she used was on her chest. Now covered in blood.
