Chapter 38

"aaaaaah!"

"aaaaaah!"

"Aaaaaah!" Amourora screamed louder and groped around until her hand reached something and threw it at the floating doll, which looks exactly like the doll she got from the antique store.

"what! Why are screaming?" The doll dodged the flying object.

"y–you... you can talk!" Amourora yelled out of breath. Her toy is alive!

" and... you can scream! Very loudly! " The doll massaged her temples. " okay, we got off on the wrong foot, let's start again. You are...people. A human. Amourora Rosabella de Auclair. Strange name by the way. Anyway, my name is Maylea, my friends call me May."

" you can talk..."

"yeeeah. We established that." Maylea was starting to confirm her thoughts about humans being stupid. Slow-witted too. I mean, she is talking to a human for the first time and do you see her freaking out? No! She's as calm and composed as a fish in outer space. Wait...that doesn't sound right. Point is, she's as calm as could be, albeit a little annoyed.

"I have a doll that talks." Amourora said more to her self than anyone else, slowly processing her words. 'okay, try to stay calm. I remember going to sleep, so maybe this is just a dre—'

"me talking should be the least of your concerns right now." Maylea interrupted her line of thoughts, she pointed behind her.

"huh?" Amourora turned around to look behind her. "what the... What is this place!"

"it's the modern world." Maylea explained. "the 21st century in a parallel universe."

"why am I here?"

"oh, why you ask? Let me explain it to you in a way that you would understand." Maylea pinched the corners of her lips in a 'not-so-forced' smile. 'alright we are back on track. All you have to do is finish this mission, then bah-bye humans, hello Fairisland ! As easy as pie.'

Music started on the background and Maylea held a microphone to her lips. "and a five, six, seven, eight. Hey!"

It all started with a lightning bolt.

It was dark then, bam! Piercing gold.

Then a girl flipped the world upside down,

All in the journey of getting the crown.

She was cheered on by her fans in crowds,

Little did they know, it was 'bout to get loud.

Then, bam! And boom! And zigity zoom.

Now we're sent here, yeah me and you,

To fix this mess that we didn't do,

Before it turns to chaos like monkeys zoo!

" Stop, stop, stop!" Amourora sheild her ears from the high-pitched shrieks. "nice lyrics, but... I think I'll understand better if you explain it...normally?"

"oh, okay." yeah, humans are definitely stupid. "it all started when... Well, we are both here for a purpose. You, to save the world. And me, to complete my mission! Whoo!"

"... what is your mission?"

"to help you. See, I have to serve seven masters before I'm officially crowned as a fairy."

"but...aren't you already a fairy?"

"uh... No. Fairies have wings, and magical powers, and dreams, and can grant wishes, and they can fly."

"but you are flying..."

"I'm floating. Hovering in the air. Because of my shoes?" she frowned. "Anyway, I have to get my wings quickly. And become a spring fairy! Yeah! Fresh breeze, berries juice, and it's just me and the butterflies chilling together. And to get what I want, I have to help you, get what you want. Cool?... You do understand, right? "

"...yeah?" Amourora still couldn't believe she met a fairy. Although she liked her better as a doll, this fairy is a bit sassy even if she fails to hide it under her fake smiles." so we work together to reach our objective and...save the world? "

" yes. See, you get it. Now all you have to do is sign right here." she pulled out a contract and shoved it to her face. "yes, right here. C'mon, just sign it. "

"but, I don't understand fairy language?"

"don't worry. You will after you sign. Just write your name...here. And stamp your thumb...here. With red ink of course, not your blood. Now go on. "

As soon as Amourora signed, Maylea snatched the small receipt-like paper out of her hand and closely inspected it. "hm... good. Now follow me. I will tell you all you need to know."

Amourora gazed around her in astonishment. The place she was in had a flat gray surface in the middle of the road, where funny-shaped boxes in wheels zoomed by smoothly. At either sides of the road, stood large glass buildings peaking through the clouds. However, the buildings had glass walls, not like display windows on shops, the entire outer layer was made of thick glass. And their structures were not like castles, but more like crystal blocks stacked on top of each other.

It was bustling with noise, people shouting, others running to get from one place to another, all wearing strange clothes. The girls, especially, wore revealing clothes, even her undergarments would cover more than what a group of giggling girls passing by had on. How unruly.

Ooops!

She ducked her head to avoid a man's elbow from accidently hurting her, which in return made her stumble backwards and fall in the middle of the road. She hurriedly tried to crawl back to her feet and get out of the way as a moving box moved closer and closer to her.

Noooo!

Just when she thought she would meet her fate,

Swoosh!

The car zoomed right through her, as if she was a ghost.

"don't be so foolish. No one can see or hear you anyway." Maylea was both disappointed and frustrated she got stuck with a dumb person. Whatever, just do the job, get it over with, grab that paycheck and wings and she'll be outta here faster than a squirrel chased by a mad dog.

"wow..." Amourora looked around in awe. "is this what our world would develop into? It's... magnificent!"

"uh... No." Maylea floated forward. "It's a parallel universe... where Victoria came from."

"oh. What's a parallel universe? And how would it help us save the world exactly? " she asked curiously.

"don't ask me, ask the higher-ups." Maylea pulled out a bee-shaped taplet and started scrolling through the mission center. "okay. It says here all I have to do is teach you about this world. So, uh...stick to me, shut up and listen to my explanation. Good? Any questions?"

"yes, ac—"

"no questions? Okay, let's go. " she floated over different objects, giving a quick comprehensive explanation of each. " this big flat rock is the street, the vehicles in it are called cars. They run by gasoline, not horses."

"that's a motorcycle. Those are modern humans. Half of them are lazy and fat. There's fat here, fat there, Look how his belly jiggles! Look. Sigh."

" the fashion industry evolved and now revealing clothes are not only acceptable , but trendy, too. Can you believe it? People these days are so... Ugh. This is presumptuous! Look at that, she's practically wearing a shiny rag! Unbelievable. "

" that building is called a skyscraper. And those are birds, wait you already know birds. Oops. "

"may, I—" Amourora spoke out after a while.

"it's Maylea." she plastered a fake smile. "only my friends call me May."

"well, Maylea, can we stop here and call it a day? I'm starting to get a headache because of the massive load of information." she rubbed her forehead with her wrist.

"what are you, a flash drive?" Maylea rolled her eyes.

"uh... what's that?"

Maylea's lips twitched, unable to keep up a smile any longer. "let's take a break!"

Whew! She's glad she isn't a nurse or flight attendant!
