Chapter 16

Li Shaoze drank a hot malt and felt refreshed. He listened to Li Junfeng's apology and told him not to mention it anymore.

"I know where you're coming from but you should know that you've been on my side for so long. You always took my side, and I never felt anything was unfair," Li Shaoze explained patiently. He needed Li Junfeng to know that it wasn't anybody's fault.

Listening to his brother's pleasant and baritone voice, Li Junfeng felt that he was finally able to see past his far-fetched ideal. He regretted having to die young and had to tell Li Shaoze this thing only when he became a ghost.

Maybe that was why he was stuck between that huge golden gate.

"I need to sleep now. I'll have a meeting outside tomorrow so you go about your way," Li Shaoze halted when he was about get up from his seat.

Li Junfeng glanced over and saw complicated emotions passed by his brother's face, but only for a while. Then Li Shaoze said, "But make sure you don't leave my side for too long. or I'll be worried,"

Pei Qian was in her bedroom after taking a shower. She went to dry her hair and then fell back on the bed, feeling exhausted.

She recalled her first day in the office today after a long days off. She could see her subordinates looking concerned for her while some were talking behind her back to get some juicy details out of either sympathy or curiosity.

Pei Qian sighed as she felt it was normal. People would obviously be curious about the news of the terror during her engagement party. They would want to know more but couldn't ask her straight to her face.

Some of her best friends who were at the party were still recuperating at home due to minor injuries. They also wouldn't have the time to ask her how she was doing in which she completely understood.

Pei Qian thought about her itinerary and felt it would be nice if she could become busy again. Although it was weird, she looked forward to it since she felt the calmest when she was working.

She wouldn't suddenly thought of Li Junfeng and the traumatic experience. Plus, her family would be rest assured if she quickly returned to her normal self.

Pei Qian sighed softly and she went to do some facial routine in front of her vanity mirror. Her beautiful oval face was depicted in full view on the mirror. Her eyes were like stars and her lips were pinky.

Pei Qian was a definition of a woman who could fit any subject with her temperament and face. At work once she put on blazer and a formal attire, she would look like a weighty tigress. But once she wore only pajamas at home, she would look the cutest. When she donned a dress at an event, she would be the most gorgeous woman with a perfect proportion.

She was a woman sought after by many men in the upper circle. Her charisma and beauty were top notch. But she never opened her heart to anyone but Li Junfeng. It was a devastating blow to the single men when Pei Qian and Li Junfeng began dating. It was such a hot sensation back then.

Finishing her routine, Pei Qian planned to go to bed early. However, a white business card on the vanity fell on her sight. She instantly remembered that it was Li Shaoze's.

She seemed to have forgotten about it and felt disconnected for a while. Pei Qian took the card and stared at it for a long time. She found that once she remembered Li Shaoze, she would instantly recall Li Junfeng too, which was not helping her.

Once Pei Qian had this thought, she became a bit guilty towards the man. He had confessed to being able to see wandering souls. It must have been hard for him to open up about it to a stranger. But he must have done it for Li Junfeng.

Pei Qian had a feeling that Li Shaoze was a type of older brother that would listen to his younger sibling. And it should be so because Li Junfeng often praised him whenever he liked.

Pei Qian remembered that during their date once, Li Junfeng had mentioned his brother and worried about him not having a girlfriend. She didn't mind it then but now she knew why Li Junfeng had to worry.

'He looks so unapproachable and quiet it's hard to make a conversation with him,' she had this thought.

Pei Qian also remembered how much presence Li Shaoze had. He wasn't the type that had a suffocating presence, but his feature was impeccable it caused others to look twice. He looked mature when he wasn't talking but once he did, he would become awkward and expressionless.

'He's totally different from Junfeng,' she thought.

Pei Qian took the card and walked to the bedside. She then saved the number on her phone. She recalled Li Shaoze's face at the lake that was a mixture of surprise and little bit of panic. He was surprisingly expressive then.

Pei Qian wondered if he ever smiled or laughed. What would he look like then..?

A knock on the door jolted her back to her senses. Pei Qian was instantly aware of what she was thinking about and her heart beat faster. Not because of anything but mere confusion.

Pei Qian guessed she must have become interested in Li Shaoze due to Li Junfeng. The man was thought so highly by her lover so she had a hunch that Li Shaoze could be trusted and was a good man. She couldn't deny that there was a tiny seed of curiosity sprouting inside her for the man named Li Shaoze.

She went to the door and saw her mother standing outside, asking her about her day in the office. Pei Qian smiled at her mother and gradually forgot about Li Shaoze. However, she had already made a mental note to get in touch with him soon.
