Shocked

One....

Breathe in, out.

Two....

In, out.

Three....

In, out.

Four....

In, out.

Five.....

In, out.

I count one to ten as I take deep breaths.

My heart has gone haywire ever since Jaxon told me he liked me.

I wasn't expecting that. I just wanted to know if he was avoiding me or not or if...

Shit.

I crotch down immediately and I put my hands in my hair.

What the fudge am I going to do?

How the fudge am I going to face him tomorrow?

Shit

Shit

Shitttt.

"This is all too much." I stand up and walk to the car.

I'm about to call Chelsea but then I remember she's on a date with Austin.

"Great." I put my hands up in frustration. "Now who am I supposed to talk to?"

I open the driver's door in frustration and I settle in.

I grab the wheel and I hit my head on it repeatedly.

"I like him. He likes me. But why do I feel like entering the ground?" I ask myself. "If he likes me and I also like him, why can't I just date him?"

"I mean, we both like each other, so what's stopping me?" I groan and I hit my head one more time on the wheel before I finally sit up.

"This isn't going to do." I start the car and I drive out of the school.

Destination; unknown.

Yeah right.

An hour later, I get home and I see my mom's car in the driveway.

I park, get down, lock the doors and I walk inside.

"Mom?" I call her name as soon as I enter.

"In here sweetie." She replies.

I walk into the living room and I see her reading a magazine on the couch.

"You're home early." I point out.

"Yeah." She drops her magazine and smiles at me. "I have the day off."

"But I didn't see you this morning."

"I came in a little after ten."

"Oh."

"How was school?"

"Here and there." I shrug.

Should I?

Nah.

"That's good. If you're hungry, there's Mac and cheese in the fridge. You can just bring it out to warm it up okay?"

"Thanks."

She smiles and picks up her magazine again.

But she might help.

Nah.

I turn to walk away but immediately I turn back.

"Mom?" She looks up again.

"Yes honey?"

I have no one else to talk to and it's really killing me.

"I have this friend." I begin.

"Okay, is it someone I know?" She sets her magazine down again.

"No it's not."

"What's her name?"

"Um I don't think she'd like it if I told you."

"Her name?" She asks confused.

"No I mean what I'm about to tell you."

"And how does it affect me knowing her name?"

"Her name's Ella."

"Okay. So what about her?" She asks and I walk to sit beside her on the couch.

"There's this guy she likes. She really likes him." She nods. "So some weeks ago, she was determined to make him like her back. But recently, the guy tried to kiss her but they were interuppted and after that day, the guy avoided her."

"Oh wow. That's not nice." She states.

"Yeah so today, she confronted him and he suddenly confessed his feelings for her."

"His feelings for her?"

I nod.

"Yes. He told her he had like her ever since he saw her and that's why he avoided her. He thought avoiding her would make him stop liking her."

"And what did your friend say to that?"

"Nothing!" I shout. "Sorry."

"She said nothing?"

"Yeah."

"But I thought you said she likes him?"

"She does!"

"Then why didn't she say she likes him back?"

"Exactly my point!" My voice raises a little. "I mean, she likes him, and the guy told her he likes her, so why didn't she just say anything? They literally both like each other!"

"Why are you so frustrated about it?" She eyes me.

"W...well, s..she's my friend so I have to." I stutter.

"Maybe she's just shocked"

"Shocked?"

"Yes."

"But why would she?"

"The guy she has a crush on and even already had a plan to make him like her, suddenly comes up and declares he likes her. Of course she'd be shocked. She never thought he'd like her. She thought she'd have to work for it."

"Yeah she did."

"So him just coming out like that really did something to her."

"So you think she's just in shock?" I ask and she nods.

"If she isn't shocked then I don't know what else stopped her at that moment."

"The worst part is that she's meeting him tomorrow. It's so going to be awkward." I groan.

"And why should it? If he doesn't make it awkward, if he doesn't act off, then why should she?"

"But he confessed and-"

"Is he expecting a reply?" She interuppts me.

"No."

"Then there's nothing to worry about. He just let her know how he feels. There's nothing there. He's just telling her."

"You think so?"

"Trust me. He's going to act like nothing happened. Although there might be a slight change in the way he acts towards her, but it's nothing."

"Changes like what?"

"Like he could be more affectionate to her, more touchy, and oh, he's going to be dropping more heart skipping words to her."

"What?"

She shifts closer to me.

"He's going to make her heart flutter. He's going to do things to make her have butterflies."

Oh my.

She moves back and picks her magazine again.

"But other than that, it's alright." She smiles up at me.

"T-thanks."

I stand up and leave her to her magazine.
