The demon pointed her finger to the two Campbell's before her. Her snake-like eyes danced from one man to the other, without a second thought she was running at them. Donnie felt every hair on his neck stand on end as she flashed next to him. Slamming a clawed palm down on his face, he let out a yelp of agony and scrambled back. A growl rolled through his lips, making his body tremble. The smell of gunpowder hit his lips, Donnie ducked to the floor as a bullet slammed through the air and whizzed past the demon. Licking her cheek, causing a dash of black blood to roll down her skin.
The wolf felt heat explode under his skin, fur broke through his pores and rolled down his body. He was hot everywhere as the transformation happened quickly, his limbs shuttered and snapped but they didn't hurt so badly this time. His eyes shot open, letting out a howl of pure rage he leapt at the woman, she turned on him. He watched in shock as her body changed to Israfil's, Donnie gasped and leapt to the side just barely missing the other with outstretched claws. Turning his attention to the angel on the floor, the brunette's twitching seemed to relax but he didn't move.
Donnie's father stepped in front of his son and shot, the large hand cannon practically blew the werewolf's ears out with its sound. The bullet smashed the false Israfil in the forehead, laughing as her face started to distort around the hole in her head. The skin split from the large hole, blood falling to the floor around her. The flesh on her face repairing itself, her eyes wild. She laughed maniacally,
"How 'bout this!" She shouted, her voice sounded like Israfil causing Donnie to take another step back. He logically knew that it wasn't Israfil, didn't smell like him, had his warm eyes, the glint in his gaze when he smiled. Yet an instinct, a deep seeded loyalty held him back as if the wolf inside him couldn't understand what was going on.
She charged forward, her mouth distorted to a large smile that stretched the skin in a horrific fashion as she laughed. Her fingers extended like long, thin claw as she tore her way towards Buck. A blast from Israfil's guitar knocked her back, she roared in anger. Donnie's eyes snapped back to Israfil, Mammon was beating him into the floor with laughter in his eyes.
The angel's hand slammed over the golden strings of his guitar regardless until Mammon grabbed him by the hand. Starting to pull the angel's fingers back, Israfil fought back now. His wings exploded from his back sending the demon flying back. Donnie tore his way towards the angel, only to feel pain flood his chest and rib cage. Mammon had rammed into him at full speed, his deep purple wings helping to throw the others weight, sending Donnie colliding backwards into the pews of the church.
Darkness swamped the Wolf's vision as his head knocked hard into the sides of the thick wooden benches.
***
Donnie sucked in the crisp, cool air. It was late at night, the world asleep. Tomorrow they'd be going to the church service and after? Donnie planned on talking to his dad about asking Israfil to be his. It wasn't something easy and as the two walked down the street he couldn't keep the excitement that pumped through his veins down.
"Where are we going?" Israfil asked, his eyes bright as they walked past the dark homes that sat tall against the vibrant deep purple skies above, moonlight painted their path as if guiding the men onward.
"I hope it's still here, I used to come here as a kid!" Donnie chuckled, Israfil leaned against the other. They had been walking a good five minutes now, it was the first time the pair had been together without Donnie's family racing around them.
"What is it though?" Israfil asked again, Donnie's heart jumped as the other brushed his hand against the wolf's. He swallowed back the anxiety and panic that flooded his mind,
"I uh, it's just a cool place, Issy!" He laughed, not wanting to give up the surprise. Though his scents were heightened, thanks to the wolf inside him - it was as if the only thing he could smell was the angel at his side. The man's brilliant honey gaze moved from Donnie to the stars above, he felt Israfil's hand brush his own again.
Donnie bit his lip, 'take a chance' something told him - he reached forward and gently pushed one of his fingers against the angels. The man's soft skin sent sparks through Donnie's bones, his heart hammered against his chest faster as Israfil pushed his hand into Donnie's.
His entire body vibrated with such excitement he felt the urge to run but forced it down. The wolf in him made running seem a lot more fun than it actually was!
They moved hand in hand out of the small neighborhood and to an old crossroads. Though Israfil looked nervous he didn't pull away, instead he pushed himself closer.
"If you're going to murder me at least let me know where I'm gonna die!" Israfil teased, laughing softly.
Donnie grinned goofily at the other, "I'll murder you in the church, more ironic!" Donnie teased back, causing the angel to laugh at this. They walked for a few more minutes down the train tracks that lead to a small area with trees that stood tall. The train track continued onward, over a loud river and into a tunnel but Donnie tugged them to the side. Sliding into the tree, Israfil almost fell from a branch only for the wolf to balance him.
Israfil grinned at the other, Donnie's heart practically flipped as the angel stumbled into the other's chest, smiling up at Donnie who grinned down at him. Blue soft light illuminated the waves on the other's head, Israfil caught his eye and looked away, giggling nervously. Donnie sighed as he turned to pick his way through the undergrowth.
The pair pushed from a few small bushes to show a large clearing beside the winding river, long, thick grass stood tall and in the center was a large oak tree with dark burns in it's center.
"Oh wow; that's a cool tree!" Israfil gasped
"Yep! Got hit by lightning," Donnie grinned, "That's how I found this place! We call it the ugly tree,"
Israfil looked around as if trying to understand where they were, he glanced at Donnie with curious eyes.
"What is this place?" Israfil asked, tilting his head to the side like a confused puppy.
"Oh! It's this,"
Without waiting for Israfil to reply Donnie ran forced and leapt into the grass, a shower of light exploded from under him and showered the air around the pair. Israfil gasped in shock, his eyes wide as moons as fireflies danced around his face. Turning his eyes to gold,
"Whoa!" Israfil laughed, "great Scott!"
He jumped towards Donnie, the second his feet hit the grass more fireflies flew out and around them. Sending waves of tickling wind over the angel's skin, Donnie admired the other as the lights danced in a halo around the man's head. His legs turned to jelly at the other's radiance.
"Come on! Race you!" Donnie shouted, attempting to shake off his nervous jitters, pointing towards the large tree. Israfil's eyes flashed as they both pelted forward. Donnie could outrun Israfil easily now due to the wolf that burned within him but he couldn't keep his eyes off the man as the light of thousands were pushed from under their feet and danced in the air around them.
With every step was more light, it showered them in its beauty. The golden fireflies flew lazily towards the tree as the men laughed and ran together, Israfil took a few quick leaps and sailed over the grass before landing beside the tree in a large clump of grass. He was almost tossed back into the air from the amount of small, brilliant lights that flew from under him. Donnie howled out, smashing into his friend causing the pair to roll through the grass and come to a stop under the tree.
They laughed into the peaceful night air as they playfully wrestled for a few rapid seconds until Donnie pinned the other down. His smile fell as he and Israfil caught one another's eyes, something flashed in Israfil's eyes. Something he couldn't place. He could see in the man's face that he saw the same in Donnie's eyes.
Donnie chuckled nervously and pushed himself off Israfil, sitting down beside him. Israfil sat up and laughed, rubbing dirt off his face before leaning forward and brushing dirt off Donnie's forehead. Instinct kicked in, Donnie placed a hand on the other's cheek. Israfil leaned into it, his own palm moved from the other's forehead to the back of the man's neck. The space between them wasn't much as Donnie admired the man before him.
Almost a year ago he'd met the angel and in that year he'd fallen so deeply in love it scared him, he moved his hand to the other's chin before leaning forward, their foreheads touched as Donnie attempted to check boundaries but Israfil didn't move away. To the genius's surprise the angel leaned into the touch, his smile more vibrant than the lights around them.
"Donnie," he whispered, "can I confess something else?" His voice was hardly audible against the pounding of the hunter's heart.
"Always," Donnie murmured
"I…" he hesitated, Donnie brushed his nose to the others, meeting the others' gaze. He could feel the angels breath on his skin,
"I've never been kissed before," Israfil murmured, his face turned a light shade of red.
Donnie wasn't surprised, Israfil had been the embodiment of "pure until marriage" and part of the wolf felt bad for what he was going to do, but the other part selfishly didn't care as he leaned forward and pressed his lips to the angels.
He felt Israfil tense only for the man to lean into the kiss, pulling himself closer to Donnie. One hand behind the Wolf's neck and the other gripping his arm, Donnie pulled away only for the angel to close the distance again. Joy sparked into him as they kissed in the light of the fireflies, it wasn't until the sound of leaves crunching caused the men to pull away and move attention to the sound of laughing.
"Shit, must be teenagers," Donnie groaned, Israfil looked stunned from the kiss. His head dizzy as warmth flooded his body.
"Come on, let's get outta here." Donnie murmured, Israfil smiled at him as they two stood up. The angel wrapped his arms around the Wolf's neck before he could react, burying his face into the man's chest in a tight hug.
"Thank you," he whispered, Donnie squeezed the other lightly as they hugged.
"Issy, we...need to talk," Donnie whispered, Israfil pulled away looking confused.
"Hey!" The pair turned to the voice, and a few clearly drunk teenagers stumbled into the clearing.
"You guys got any weed?"
Donnie snorted a laugh, letting Israfil go he made for the teens with a roll of his eyes.
"We...I need to talk to my dad first, we can talk after church tomorrow." he called as he pulled out a bag of drugs he kept on his person.
***
"Wake up, hellllo!"
Donnie's eyes fluttered, the memories of the night before left his mind as he found himself staring up at the ceiling of his family's church. The large sun with a golden lion in the middle looked out of place to his double vision, he tried to move but his arms were painfully tied to him. It took a few heartbeats to recall where he was, he rolled on the floor and used his upper body strength to hoist himself up.
Mammon was grinning devilishly at him. Blood covered the front of the man causing Donnie's fear to kick up, as the haze vanished from his mind he looked down at the ropes that were tied around him.
"You've been tied up with werewolf beads," Mammon snorted, nodding to the black beads that raced around the ropes on his frame. Donnie struggled against the roping, he could see clearly now.
His family was tied up a few feet from him, all tied up and shouting at the demons in the room. Paul and Vanilla looked to have been separated, Obizuth practically danced up to Donnie, his father shuffled and coughed beside him.
"Dad?" Donnie whispered, "you okay?"
"Yeah son," Buck huffed as he pulled himself up beside his son, "I've been through worse,"
Obizuth wrapped an arm around Mammon's shoulder and laughed dramatically,
"Good morning sleeping beauties!!" She purred out, Onoskelis moved her way to the two men. She dragged Israfil behind her who had blood pouring from his body, it took Donnie only a few seconds to understand that the blood on Mammon wasn't from his family but from Israfil.
He howled in anger, attempting to force off the rope that surrounded him.
"You leave him alone!" Donnie roared out, Obizuth snorted at this and made for the angel who looked exhausted, his skin seemed void of color and his eyes dulled out. His breaths were rapid as blood continued to pool on the floor, fear, anger, hate, it burned into Donnie's body so hot the wolf felt he'd explode but no matter how hard he focused he couldn't force the monster out.
"Stop! Please!" Donnie shouted, "I will do anything just please let him go," Donnie knew he was crying, from anger, from fear. Seeing the angel clinging to life as the group laughed sent his mind into overdrive. He couldn't think straight as instinct kicked itself forward.
He took in a few breaths, trying to shove the wolf back.
"What do you want?" Buck demanded.
Mammon reached into his pocket and pulled out Israfil's Adinkra, it hummed loudly into the air. Donnie noticed his family flinch at the music that screamed from the pendant.
"Which one of you does this belong to?" Mammon asked, holding it towards Donnie and Buck.
"Neither, that's always been Israfil's," Buck snorted out angrily, spitting on the floor by Mammon feet. The demon chortled, he slashed the man across the face causing blood to flow like a river.
"Dad!" Vanilla shouted, she fought against the ropes but to no avail.
"You tell us which one of you two is king, we kill you and everyone lives,"
"Neither of us!" Donnie shouted, Mammon rolled his eyes and pulled a weapon from his back pocket. A long, jagged knife with angelic markings covering the front glittered bright in the dying sunlight.
Donnie's family shuttled uncomfortable,
"W-what is that?" Donnie asked in panic, glancing at his father who glared at Mammon.
"Leave Israfil alone!" Buck snarled, "I'm the king! Let my family go! That includes Israfil," Buck glanced at Donnie and back to Mammon who sighed with a laugh.
"See? How hard was that?"
"How do you even know? If the Adinkra hadn't picked, how would you know?" Israfil growled from where he laid on the floor, attempting to get up only to have Obizuth slammed her high heeled shoe onto his back. Shoving him back to the floor with a painful grunt.
"Easy!" Mammon snorted, turning to Israfil, "we have a little inside help," he chuckled. "From what we understand, Israfil's Adinkra is the last one needed,"
Israfil looked away, tears rolled down his cheeks. Donnie felt more confused than he had ever been,
"What does that mean?" Donnie demanded, glancing from Israfil to his father and back to Mammon.
"You're slow, let me help," the demon laughed out, "this is an angel blade," he slammed the sharp end of the angelic blade into the floor. It stuck up straight without movement,
"It's the only way an angel can die. At least, from a weapon."
Donnie's heart stopped, before Mammon could continue Israfil roared out in rage. With a sharp hum the Adinkra glowed so vivid Mammon dropped it in shock. Israfil's wings flew from his back, smashing into the two demons that surrounded him. He shot into the air, his eyes glowed vivid yellow in the dark church. The dying sun cast crimson light on the floor below turning it to blood, tears of gold ran down the angels cheeks.
Donnie watched in awe as his halo shone bright, hundreds of eyes opened under the angel's skin that sent shivers through the hunter's body.
"Oh finally!" Mammon laughed, his own wings extended from his back. His eyes turned to black, his smile stretched.
"Get him killer!" Onoskelis shouted out to Mammon.
Israfil shot towards Mammon, flying past the demon and landed on the floor. The demon snorted, Israfil snatched up the white guitar that was leaning against one of the pews and raced towards the Adinkra. He grabbed it just as Mammon shot bolts of electricity at the angel. Wood exploded from the lightning that collided into it, sending shards of sharp toothpick sized pieces into the air.
Donnie continued to fight with the wraps around him,
"Dad! I gotta help him i--" Donnie wailed out, tears raced down his cheeks as he watched the angel of music attempt to fight off Mammon. Obizuth joined in on the fight, laughing wildly as she slashed the air in front of him. The angel sailed towards the ceiling, his halo illuminated the lion above him as he shot beams of his grace from the guitar around him.
Buck and Donnie struggled against the ropes, the sound of Vanilla gasping causing the pair to glance up. She hopped to her feet and ran to the rest of the family with a switchblade out, Onoskelis was on her in seconds but Vanilla was ready. Pulling out a gun and shooting at the woman a few times, racing towards the others to get them free.
"The switchblade!" Donnie gasped, turning to his father.
"Dad! My switchblade, it's in my back pocket! Get it out,"
Buck didn't need another word said, he fell so his face would land behind the other. Grabbing the blade in his son's back pocket with his teeth, he dropped the blade to the floor before shuffling a few times to pick up the blade with his hands that were still behind his back. He shoved himself against the other's back, using the end of the knife to slip through the beads that covered the wolf's tied back hands. Donnie could already feel the energy flowing into his veins.
Israfil shouted as lightning sent him colliding down to the floor beside Donnie and Buck.
"Issy!" Donnie yelled, the angel pushed his way to the other. He was beaten badly, his hair charred off in some spots from the electricity. Blood fell from the large gasp in his stomach,
"Hey asshole!" Vanilla shouted towards Mammon who turned attention to her. The woman had freed Paul who was quick to get the others out. Max held a hand up, showing off the sigil that was burned into the mans palm.
Pride broke into Donnie's system as he watched his family but it died in seconds. Israfil crawled back to Donnie, his guitar was breaking. The wolf could see a few broken strings, the white wood drenched in blood.
"Issy!" Donnie shouted, he felt the ropes snap as his father cut through them. The wolf didn't stop to help the other out, crawling to the angel and pulling him to his chest while Mammon and the others were distracted.
"Israfil," Donnie whispered, holding the man close and pushing his hair from his face. His mind worked hard as he attempted to find a way to stop the bleeding but the angel was so soaked in blood he couldn't figure out where it was all coming from.
"I don't have much time," the angel wheezed, tears racing down his cheeks.
"No! Don't say that!" Donnie sobbed out, "I can get you help I can--"
"Stop," Israfil whispered, placing a hand on the Wolf's cheek. Donnie leaned into it, tears racing down his cheeks.
"This...was my destiny," Israfil whispered, "Faith, she told me I had one last thing I had to do before my mission was done,"
"Don't talk like that!" Donnie shouted, "your mission is to be with me!"
His voice cracked painfully as tears made his vision blur,
"Donnie," Israfil whispered, shoving the Adinkra into the man's hands. Donnie looked down at it in shock and back to Israfil, the light in his eyes started to fade.
"Please...no you're my Lionheart! How can I be king without my Lionheart!" Donnie shouted, he could hear his family fighting. He could hear them losing.
"Donnie, thank you," Israfil whispered, "For being my first kiss,"
"Please, you're my sunshine," Donnie gagged out, choking on his tears.
Before Donnie could react the angel's wings pumped twice, sending the angel into the air. Donnie shouted at him, clenching the Adinkra tight against his chest. It was as if the world stopped as Donnie watched the angel shoot towards Mammon at full speed, the demon had grabbed Paul's pregnant wife with a laugh.
Israfil's guitar screamed, the last strings broke as he shot a beam of energy at Mammon sending the demon flying backwards. Using the guitar as a weapon the angel slammed the wood against Obizuth sending her sprawling back, Onoskelis used this chance to attack.
Donnie shouted out for Israfil but it was too late, even with every instinct intact he couldn't stop it. Onoskelis slammed the angel's blade into Israfil's chest. Right into the angel's heart, red flooded the Wolf's gaze. His body hurt from the extremely violent transformation, leaping at Onoskelis who turned to look at Donnie in shock.
He grabbed the woman's arm in his large jaws and crushed it, causing her to shout in agony. He turned and threw the woman at Mammon who gasped in shock at the large wolf. Blood splashed on his muzzle and the floor, whipping around his teeth sunk into Obizuth's side. She shouted from the hot pain as he tossed her across the church with ease.
He snarled deeply when electricity smacked into his body, yelping in pain the wolf moved with breakneck speed towards Mammon. Snarling as his sharp thorn-like teeth dug into the demon's neck, yanking the man to the floor and ripping out the demon's flesh, spitting it to the wooden church ground. Mammon's body fell limps as he gagged and gasped for air, blood bubbled and rolled down his exposed throat. Donnie licked the blood off his lips, staring down at the demon with glittering eyes.
The sun fell fully now, Donnie's head moved wildly around from side to side but the other two demons had fled. Leaving himself and his family alone,
"Israfil!" Paul shouted, Donnie's attention returned to the Angel. His instinct kicked in, leaping in front of the man to prevent his brother from getting closer. The red in his vision prevented him from understanding who Paul was, watching as the human put his hands up and took a few drops back.
"Stay away, I'll rip you apart!" He growled
The soft voice of Israfil rolled through him, he glanced down and dropped to the floor to the bleeding angel. He was singing, smiling still up at the wolf. The werewolf whimpered and shoved himself against the angel, tears raced down the animal's furry cheeks as he shoved his nose into the angel's side. Israfil sang softly to the other, running his fingers through the wolf's fur, settling his anger until the creature returned to its human form.
Donnie pulled Israfil into his arms, yanking the knife out with a soft gasp, Israfil choked on his own blood. Coughing softly,
"Donnie," he murmured, Donnie sucked in air and sobbed loudly.
"Please Issy, please don't leave me! Please!" He shouted, pressing his forehead to Israfil's. Tears continued to race down his cheeks,
"Please Israfil, use angel magic, please call God; please...please don't leave me please,"
Israfil smiled softly at the other, putting a weak hand to the man's cheek and brushing his tears away.
"Donnie, I'm sorry. You have to save the world, you're...the king of Beasts,"
Donnie looked down at the Adinkra that was still clenched in his palm. He placed it on the angel, sobbing
"Not without my Lionheart,"
"I'm sorry, I'm not your Lionheart. I was only made to give you this, that's...all I was made for,"
Donnie growled, clenching his teeth as he buried his face into the others chest.
"No! It's not!" He shouted, sobbing into the other.
"Israfil, please! I love you Issy, please, I should have told you. Told you last night. Last week! Please…"
Israfil's eyes shone for a few seconds, "I...always thought I'd never have a family," he coughed out blood, sending flecks of dark red to the floor.
"Or be in love. But you gave me both on my last days,"
Donnie choked a few times trying to say more, "Issy please I Love you, please! Youre my soul mate. I don't care what anyone else says. Not God, not Faith, not the universe! Nothing will change that you're my soulmate,"
Israfil smiled bright, he opened his jaw to speak but a shudder rolled through him. He wheezed, the wings on his back shattered like glass and turned to ash in Donnie's arms.
"No!" Donnie shouted, "no! Please! God please!"
"I love you, Don," Israfil whispered with another soft breath, his head fell back and his eyes turned dull. The Adinkra in Donnie's hand turned grey before becoming vibrant and warmed up the wolfs hand.
"Issy! Please!" He shouted again, sobbing and screaming into the man's chest.
"I love you, I love you more than anything," he shouted over and over, holding the angel tight to him. He felt his brother behind him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"He's an angel!" Donnie wailed, "he has to come back, right?" He shouted at his brother before looking at his father. The large man looked down, not saying anything.
"Donnie…" Paul whispered, brushing away the tears that ran down his cheeks. Donnie looked up to the cross on the wall, looking down at the Adinkra in his hand he threw it. The golden necklace knocked into the wooden cross and fell soundlessly to the floor. It started to hum as Donnie's family gathered around him.
Donnie continued to scream into nothing, cursing God, Faith. He hated them both. They had told the only person who made him feel alive that he didn't matter and now, he was gone.
***
The night went by in a blur for the wolf, he remembered his panic attack. The sudden rage that was so hot it melted any sense of humanity, then he was waking up in his bed. His eyes felt as if someone had beat them in, his head hurt more than he recalled it ever hurting as his body forced him awake. Did he sleep? It occurred to him that Israfil wasn't sleeping beside him, he leapt up and glanced around in a minor panic. Then it shattered over him like a light bulb, the weight of the world fell on the man's sore back. He glanced down groggily at his body and to his arm, a giant red weld stuck out of his ebony skin.
"Fuck," He whispered, biting his lip as tears ran down his cheeks. He went to his knees and clenched the shag carpet under him. Letting out a soft whimper as he curled into a ball, the angel's scent still lingered around him. He didn't want to leave the room, he only wanted to stay here forever smelling the angel's scent. The mans words flooded his mind, his last words.
The sudden onset of nausea caused him to claw his way up to his feet and pelt out of his room, he practically knocked Vanilla, Max and Paul over to get to the bathroom. Clenching the toilet as he let out his sickness into the bowl below, he sobbed loudly. Going back to his knees, his head resting against the toilet seat as he screamed out from the pain in his chest. It was so cold, so empty. The only thing that could fill it was the touch of the angel.
"Donnie," Vanilla whispered, his brothers and sister sitting behind him. Rubbing his back as he screamed from the loss of the other,
"It's not fair, how could god do this" Donnie whispered, glancing towards the three.
They all glanced at one another, Vanilla let out a soft sob as well. Rubbing her eyes a few times, Paul pulled his brother from the toilet. Hugging the man to his chest, holding him tight. Max ran his fingers up and down the others back in an attempt to comfort him.
"I'm...so sorry, Don," Paul whispered, letting his brother scream and cry into his chest. Vanilla wrapped her arms around the pair, sitting on the floor of the bathroom in silence. Donnie pulled away after a short time, he rubbed his arm and winced at the hot pain.
"We had to put you down," Vanilla whispered, "You...went a little nuts,"
She pulled the adinkra from her pocket, it hummed loudly as she wrapped it around Donnies neck.
"But you're a King, Don," She whispered, putting a hand on his chest below the Adinkra.
"I can't be a king without my lionheart," He whispered,
"Donnie, that just means your Lionheart is out there," Paul whispered, Donnie shot his head around. Anger flooded his gaze, catching his brother off guard who held his hands up slowly.
"Israfil is my lionheart," He growled.
The three siblings glanced at one another and back to Donnie who got to his feet, he could feel the wolf inside him raging, hot white anger burned through his veins.
"Don't look at me like I'm stupid!" Donnie snapped the air with his sharp teeth, "I know he's--" The man paused, taking in a sharp breath.
"He's an angel, there's no way I can't bring him back,"
"Donnie you're not a mad scientist, you make machines." Vanilla whispered,
"Dead should stay dead," Paul agreed. Donnie snarled at him, attempting to fight back the urge to attack.
"He's an angel, they're not people. It's different," He snarled,
"You thought only a few days ago that you didn't even deserve him, what changed? Now you're completely sure?" Paul challenged, getting to his feet and towering over his brother. Max remained silent, biting his lip nervously.
"Because," Donnie's shoulders dropped, he looked down at his feet as tears ran down his cheeks once more. Using his arm to brush away his tears, the angel's voice still sang in his head.
"I kissed him," Donnie murmured, glancing at the three. They looked shocked, if it was any other instance, they'd have cheered but now they could only look at him in pity. The wolf turned away from the trio and stormed back towards his room, slamming the door shut behind him. He started grabbing his clothes and shoving them into the suitcase, he had to get out of here.
"Donnie,"
His fathers voice caught him off guard, he turned towards the man with a look of anger as if he expected the other to challenge him.
"I can't be here anymore," Donnie whispered, looking down at the ground. Buck walked up to his son, running his fingers through his salt and pepper hair.
"I understand," He murmured, placing his hands on his son's shoulders.
"Dad I love him,"
"I'll do what I can to help you,"
Donnie looked at his father in shock, "In my day, I've seen folks come back from the dead. I'll see what I can find out,"
Donnie felt tears flowing freely again as he wrapped his arms around Buck, burying his face into his fathers chest. The older hunter hugged his son tight, rubbing his back slowly. Buck let out a sigh as he spoke,
"This family won't stop until Israfil's back where he belongs, with us, with you,"
***
Donnie shoved the last bag into the back of the car, He held Israfil's guitar in one hand as he slammed the door shut. The neck of the guitar had snapped off during the fight, Donnie wrapped it up in duct tape to keep it in one piece. He placed it on the front seat, staring at it for a few heart beats. Israfil's favorite button up shirt was wrapped around the back of the seat, the angel had left in the car by accident and now it was just a second grim reminder that the angel was gone.
Sucking in air to stop the sobs that threatened to fall from his lips. It was incredibly late at night, he didn't want to wake anyone. He knew Abel wouldn't mind being woken up, he avoided calling the man since it happened but he had to tell the king. Having turned his phone off completely since Israfil had passed. He didn't feel any desire to contact anyone but now he had to explain what was happening and why he was coming home.
He sniffled softly, pulling out his phone as he got into his car.
He placed the phone into the popsocket holder, pressing a few buttons and sucking in air. The phone rang a few times, his heart sank. He didn't need to put the phone on the holder and turn on the speaker, no one else was listening. Plucking it off and pushing it against his ear, tears already rolled down his cheeks again.
"Donnie?" Abel whispered, he sounded tired like the wolf had just woke him up.
"Abe…" He started, the sound of shuffling could be heard.
"Israfil...Abel, Issy…he's..." he couldn't say it. There was a pause on the other end of the phone,
"I know, Don," Abel whispered, Donnie felt as if his heart had been torn out all over again. He choked back a sob, putting a hand over his mouth as the tears stained the floor of the van.
"How?" Donnie whispered. There was a small pause before Abel spoke again,
"It was all recorded," Abel murmured, Donnie's heart sank. Did everyone and their mother watch Israfil die?
"None of my family recorded it," Donnie murmured,
"I don't know who did it but they did the same to Bailey, I also found similar footage of Robin getting his Adinkra. It's a little more sloppy, but--"
Abel cut off, "are you okay?"
"No,"
"Are you coming back?" Abel whispered.
Donnie paused, sniffling softly and rubbing his eye with the back of his hand.
"I'm going to call you when I get halfway," he whispered before hanging up. He didn't know what he was going to do in all honesty, his mind reeled as he attempted to piece together everything. If Abel knew, did his family know? Did they just not tell him about the video? A soft knock on his window caught him off guard, Bellwether waved a hand sheepishly at her son. Pushing her large glasses up on her nose, she was clutching a bag in her arms.
Donnie brushed some of his tears away, he unlocked the doors, she walked around the front and pulled open the passenger door. Moving Israfil's guitar and sitting down in the seat, she closed the door and the two sat in silence for a few seconds.
"It's late, baby" She whispered to him, her eyes not moving from the falling moon.
"Why are you awake?" Donnie asked, sniffling a bit as he tried to keep himself from crying again. He couldn't recall ever crying this much in his life. His mom turned to him with a sad look in her eye, she reached forward and softly brushed her fingers through his hair. He leaned into her touch,
"I got some books on Souls," She whispered, "You asked for them, I don't have many. I also...wanted to give you something,"
She handed Donnie the bag, he opened the top of it with a tilt of his head and dug through the handful of small books. She was right, they didn't have much on the soul but he wasn't shocked by this.
"Donnie," She started, placing a hand on his leg, he turned attention back to her with a puzzled expression.
"I want you to give this to Israfil when you bring him back,"
"When?"
She smiled at him, "You're a Campbell, you'll find a way," She murmured, pulling a small box from her sweater pocket. She handed it to the other who looked at her in complete shock as he flipped the top of the black, small box open. Inside were two wedding rings, they were old and made of pure gold.
"Aren't...these…?"
"Yes," She chuckled, holding up her hand to show the loss of her ring.
"But...Dad said only one kid will get your rings," Donnie whispered, she nodded at this and sat back in the chair.
"And we think Israfil and you should have them, this...was the plan since Israfil showed up," She admitted, "You know Dad, me and him got married almost right away and now he thinks that just how it goes,"
Donnie looked down at the rings before pulling out his fathers, his eyes moved over the gold for a few heartbeats.
"Wear it," She whispered, "As a reminder that love doesn't die,"
He was crying again, hope burned into his veins as he leaned forward and hugged his mother tight. She kissed his forehead then cheeks a few times, pressing her forehead to his.
"We'll do what we can to find out everything about angels." She murmured, "We'll bring him back,"
"Thanks Mom," Donnie whispered, pushing the ring onto his finger and letting out a small happy sigh. It fit him perfectly.

"Got the last official king!" The man said from his spot on the roof of the church, he watched the werewolf break down the door and dive at one of his brothers.
"Oh shit!" The angel gasped, holding up his video camera towards the wolf as Max came from behind with a small gun. The crows that stood beside the dark skinned angel let out a few soft caws as they lazily watched the other.
He chuckled to himself, running his hands over his shaved down hair.
"King of Beasts losing his mind," He said to the camera, zooming into Max who shot the werewolf in the arm with what seemed to be a dart. The King roared in rage and swatted at his brother only to collapse to the ground seconds later.
"Damn!" He laughed, "We need some popcorn for this one guys," The angel laughed to the crows that hopped around him. His large black wings tucked themselves on his back as he pulled out his phone to edit and upload his most recent clips.
"Wow, Badger!" He said in a cheerful, silly voice as if the crow beside him was talking, "You really are the best at this kind of stuff!"
"Well thank you, Deedee," He chuckled, talking to the crow that nuzzled into his outstretched fingers before hopping into the man's shoulder. His peach zip up jacket and black pants covered in bird droppings as he continued to watch the family drag the wolf out of sight. Once they vanished the angel let himself drop to the floor, ducking into the church and adjusting the glasses over his eyes.
The large wooden church was a wreck, with blood covering the floor, pews tossed about and broken with a body settled in the center. Badger held the camera to the floor to show the dust that had once been the angel's body and moved his camera to Mammon's corpse.
"Oh shit, my man Mammon got his ass beat!" The angel laughed, moving towards the body and letting his large camera trace the demon from one end to the other.
"Zaqiel!"
Badger turned to the voice with an arched eyebrow, Obizuth stood in the doorway with her arms crossed over her chest.
"it's Badger now!" The anger replied
"You're the shit head who keeps taking all these videos?" She demanded, "Take them down!"
"Why? You idiots practically handed the King his adinkra on a silver platter! That's hilarious!"
She snarled at him, "Shut up!" She spat, "Titivillus, get in here and get Mammon's dumb body!"
A tall, lanky demon came trotting in nervously. His wide eyes and ferret-like movements reminded the angel of a weasel.
"Just stop filming," Obizuth snarled as the tall, giggily demon grabbed Mammon's feet and started to drag him. Badger didn't move as he filmed the entire thing with a smile,
"Where you goin' with my man, Mammon!" Badger yelled with laughter in his voice, "Draggin' him back to hell!"
The crow on his shoulder let out a caw, Obizuth flipped him off before turning and storming from the building. A murder of crows waited outside of the church for their angel companion, Obizuth waved her arms angrily at them causing the crows to fly away. Badger grinned as one of the birds landed a dropping on the woman's bright red hair causing her to scream in rage.
"She's tryin' that new hair care technique!" He laughed, the crow seemed to enjoy this too as it flapped its wings in glee.
