To Those Who Oppose Us

~Chapter 38~

The gryphandox's eyes, scarlet orbs of fury, fixated on Varmutt, who led the charge. Trespassing within the beasts nesting grounds warranted nothing but death and, with an enraged shriek, it gave chase to where stone met wood, to where Hidai lay in wait.

Leaping down from the rocks above, with enough force to knock the gryphandox over, Hidai, shook off the impact as it cried out, flailed its limbs and flared its wings. Rolling upright, it pulled its legs under its body and forced itself up, only for Hidai to bury his teeth into the lower part of its hind leg.

Varmutt, who had stopped at the sound of the impact, turned and headed back towards the beast, rearing once it was within reach, and striking out with his claws, snarling and wailing to keep its attention.

Hidai, unyielding, tugged back against the beast's leg, pulling it out to its side to keep it off balance, as Baas emerged from the tree line with his soul-bound weapon in hand.
