Only the Faithful Sleep

~Chapter 84~

When the procession arrived at the gates, Nimaro spoke kindly to the guards asking them to open it so they may pass, but the guards were too busy quaking, frozen in fear and pissing themselves to oblige his request. Thus, the Ji'vie did as they must, each carrying a torch bearer upon their back as they scaled the guarded gate with ease. The other followers, in a single line, made their way through the passage exit, which the guards didn't prevent, despite it going against their one-at-a-time policy.

With the last of the faithful beyond the gate, Nimaro turned and looked back down the road, where much to Mae's surprise, stood a seething Omb in the distance, the thick fog unyielding, even at her feet.

Mae could feel his muscles tense and vibrate, and heard his nails scratch upon the cobblestones.

"It isn't worth it," she whispered, stroking her hand up the side of his neck. "The look on her face says everything we need to know. This wasn't the response she wanted."
