Trust and Penance

~Chapter 99~

Mae stood from the table, her heart aching at the sight of the quivering mass in Pyde's arms, but before she could move, Nimaro was already at his side.

"There is nothing for you to fear," he spoke with a reassuring tone, his hand set delicately onto the back of the cloak.

"There's no ceiling here." The voice was meek and strained.

"I know, but there is something far more spectacular. All you have to do, is find the courage to face it."

"Oh, Jasper," Mae said as she stepped up beside Nimaro, "I've missed you."

As if she'd spoken magic words, the quivering mass, parted ways with Pyde, dropping to the ground before standing up, turning and grappling itself to Mae.

"Mom." His chin rested on her shoulder, as she hugged him with all of her strength. "I don't like it here. It feels… wrong. Can we please go home now?"

Mae shook her head as he leaned back from her.
