Chapter 16

Mera: MAKO~

Mako: Gah! You're way too clingy this morning! What the fuck do you want!?

It indeed was too early for the start of the week, but I already had been swamped with some requests from my other clients to review their work. However, I only have so much power to do anything about them. Luckily they were only chapter reviews this time. It's significantly smaller but the problem is trying to remember the books they're from. I'd have some notes from the last chapter review I made but even then it's a bit vague to me.

Mera was just clearly bored out of her mind while waiting for me to give her some work. Her pushy nature was starting to get annoying more than usual that I was about to smack her again! However, she must've sensed my anger like a good slave and backed off.

I specifically asked the permission of Morris to use his office for these kinds of jobs that way most everything was in reach. As I pulled out the notebook that I usually carry around, sticky pages were already starting to lose their luster. Good thing the office was small that if I did lose one of these sticky pads, I could easily locate them. Mera just kept dawdling around the room looking at the various pieces of items that Morris had in his office.

Mera: Mako~ Tell me now!

Mako: Tell you what!? Damn it! Just say it already! I'm losing my patience. It doesn't help that these chapter reviews are getting progressively terrible. Why did I even agree to edit for these authors. They aren't even that good to enter the Shield awards…

Mera: Tell me more about your boyfriend!

I saw the shine in Mera's eyes. She desperately wanted to know after being withheld for so long. However, those are the eyes that can't keep a goddamn secret! Those! Shiny! Irises! She can't keep it down unless her life depended on it! It drives me crazy knowing that she could spill what I do at any moment's notice. Don't trust this girl! Anyone who can hear my thoughts! Don't! Trust! Her!

Mako: What's there to say, cinnamon roll. We just got together and that's about it. Other than the things I told you, there's nothing else to say.

Mera: But how!? You're always working and I never see you two together! I'm sure, I would've known since I'm always with you~

Mako: Stop trying to act fucking cute already. I know when you're upset, so just out with it already before I lose any more brain cells.

Her lips pouted which gave me the most annoyed feeling ever. I quickly grabbed those ungrateful cheeks of her then pulled them as hard as I could. She was already yelling pretty lout it hurt but this chick has been annoying me since we arrived!

Mera: Okay! AH! Stop, Mako! AH! I promise I'll say- AH! Please!

Mako: Hmph! You're so annoying! You know that!

Mera: Waaah! I just want to know what you've been doing… You've been quite busy more than usual, Mako. Back then it just used to be the two of us, now there's more people.

I sat back on Morris' seat, she does have a point. There's been a lot of my plate lately but I think that's because of the season change. It's always busy during this time of year. Besides, the Shield awards aren't exactly my priority right now compared to the other writers that I know. Though it's not like anybody would want to read something I'd make.

Mako: You're right. I think I need some time to calm down for a bit. It's not everyday that you're right, so celebrate cinnamon roll. But what to do? It can't be too demanding because we still have classes.

Mera: Did you forget, Mako?

Mako: Forget what?

Mera: The end of the summer school trip! We're going on a trip to see the First Fall Leaf Festival!

Mako: Oh right, I completely forgot about that festival. It's not exactly a common festival for people out in the sticks.

Mera: Didn't you come last year?

Mako: This will be my first time if I do decide to go. Last year, I was far too busy with things…

That was a lie, I was still trying to decide what to do with myself. There was no way that I was going to tell that to her though. Those cat-like eyes filled with curiosity can't persuade me no matter what. But I've been having better days now compared to then. How much money did I earn? Is it enough yet? I just smiled because I clearly knew the answer to that.

Mera: Mako?

Mako: Hm? Oh right, the festival. What actually happens then?

Mera: Well most of us will take a ride to go north! Since the north is quite close, it's just a few more stations towards the edge of Polarity. Our school will arrive there much earlier than any other to set up things.

Mako: I'm guessing the school is in charge of logistics.

Mera: Logis sticks?

Mako: Our ride, cinnamon roll.

Mera: Ah~ Why didn't you say so! Our school did provide some free passes to head there but we can just take my car! I'm sure dad would be fine taking us there.

Mako: Ojisan? Wouldn't he be busy during that time of day?

Mera: What makes you say that?

Mako: Well he has to take charge of the festivities on the day itself especially since some of his core shops will be the main attractions of Oak and Hojo. That's already two station booths.

Mera: Oh…

Mako: Did you not know any of this?

Mera: No… I just thought that maybe…

Mako: Maybe what, cinnamon roll?

Mera: I thought that maybe if you were the one that asked my dad, he would agree…

Mera's mood suddenly shifted, she started to distance herself away from me a bit more. I dropped everything at this point, this bubbly air just turned heavy. Was that the reason why she seemed so happy earlier? Geez, I didn't know I've already broken this girl that much. Guess I have to make her happy or I'll get in trouble.

Mako: Fine, I'll ask him. But have you even tried to talk to Ojisan about it?

Mera: Hm? No, I haven't. Besides he listens to you more than me~

Despite what she said being so bubbly, that was something to be worried about. Guess Ojisan hadn't done anything to help their relationship. Damn that man, if only he could realize that I wouldn't have to worry about this shit! This is my story damn it!

I let out another sigh as I picked up my pace on my laptop, Mera was just busy doing her other homeworks and tasks that I've assigned her. Why was she helping me out again? Or was that something that I just allowed her to do. When did I do that?

Mera: Y'know Mako, how long have we been together but we never actually did hang out like this.

Mako: I prefer to have my social life outside of my professional. Besides, you only agreed to be my slave recently. It's a small access pass to be allowed in my private life.

Mera: I'm honored~

Mako: Good, you understand that.

Mera: Somehow, you remind me of my mother sometimes.

Mako: Mother?

Mera: Yeah, in fact, you too look alike hehehe. Such a strange coincidence actually.

Mako: That is pretty fucking strange.

Mera: Maybe that's why I can't seem to get enough of you, Mako. You're like my mom! I hope that doesn't offend you or anything… I only meant it in a good way.

Mako: Was she reliable?

Mera: I'm not really sure.

Mako: You haven't met your mother? Or did she…

Mera: Oh! Nothing like that! She's quite healthy! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you like that, Mako. She just doesn't have time for me or dad.

Mako: Why is that?

Mera: She has to run the entire company.

Mako: Don't tell me…

Mera: Yup! She's the CEO! She's in charge of the Sleeping Enterprise and Company or SEC for short.

Mako: Why hasn't anyone told me about this!?

Mera: Well it's supposed to be a secret. My dad is the face of the main part of the company. The legs while my mother does the real work in the background. She makes the big decisions.

Mako: Does she have a name?

Mera: Eh~ Even I don't know that.

Mako: How is that even fucking possible!?

Mera: I don't know either. We just kept calling her mother, though I'm 100% sure that my father knows. It would be strange to believe that he doesn't know her name. Right?

Mako: I think, yeah.

So Mera doesn't even know her mother's name? That's a bit strange. That just gives me a whole new perspective of how reckless parents can be. It's a miracle that someone hadn't taken advantage of Mera in the first place! Oh… That's me. Tehee~

Just as I was about to finish up sending the reviews that had decided to be put on urgent, the door opened up to reveal Jake. His face looked easily pained. Did something happen to his friend group again? Or was he here just to hang out just like cinnamon roll? Either way, it looks bothersome and not something in my storyline. There's just too much derailing right now! He noticed that we were the only ones in the office then let out an annoyed sigh.

Jake: What the hell? I was looking for you! Why didn't you answer your phone damn it!?

Mako: Don't you raise your voice at me! I got shit to do too y'know!

Jake: It's important!

Mako: Well how was I supposed to fucking know that! I'm doing my own shit to earn money!

Mera: Ah~ Just like a real couple...
