CH23.5: AWAKENING

Rewind to the exact moment the bomb exploded

Korede Balogun and Mary Izamoje were the closest to the bomb while the rest were just a few feet behind them. At the time the bomb exploded, Korede had the meteorite and the nuclear material in each hand. The force of the explosion blew everyone away. However, at that exact moment, something strange happened.

The moment the force came in contact with the meteorite, it started glowing. For Korede, time stopped. He was still in the posture of being blown away but his mind was alert. Everything around him, including himself, had stopped moving. He suddenly heard a voice. He didn't know how to describe it but it sounded like the most 'beautiful' voice he had ever heard. It said,

"Young man, are you willing to be the host to this entity? What are you willing to offer?"

"As long as it can save my teammates, name IT!!" Korede responded.

"At a time in the future when you are strong enough, free me." the voice said.

Korede didn't understand but he knew he had to agree. As for what the voice meant, he could always find out in the future as long as he is alive.

"You have my word!" Korede said with conviction.

A ripple was felt in the space and the voice seemed to believe him.

The glow suddenly became very intense. The canister containing the nuclear material crumbled. The radioactive material was exposed to air. Then, a suction force dragged it towards the meteorite. The radiation seemed to have been drained from the material and it crumbled to dust. The meteorite melted and entered Korede's body. Korede felt a slight piercing pain in his head and began to lose consciousness. Before everything went black though, he felt a pulse come out of his body…

In a dream-like space, one could see a mighty river. The river was so vast, one could not see its banks. What was flowing in this river was definitely not water. It was unknown what it was but one could see streams of golden light.

A silhouette could be seen rowing a canoe on the river. The figure rowed in anguish and futility. No matter how fast or how well it rowed, it was never able to change its course. Yet, it remained unyielding. It didn't give up. It continued doing the same thing over and over again, not want to follow the current of the river. However, for all its effort, its unwillingness, its stubbornness, everything was futile… or so it seemed.

At this moment, a voice that had haunted the silhouette, mocked it even, was heard. Unlike the other times when the voice could be said to be emotionless and neutral, this time, it contained a hint of respect.

"Alright, human. Through your efforts, though futile and pointless as they were, you have gained the 'interest' of the River of Time. For this, I shall allow your wish."

Suddenly, the boat the silhouette was in capsized. However, the figure did not drown. It merely floated on the surface of the river. It was then that the figure realised how truly pointless its actions were. The river could have destroyed it any time it wished.

As the silhouette came to recognise its weakness, the river began to wash over it. Soon the figure began to glow in the same golden shade as the river. It heard the voice say,

"Let the soul of the universe bear witness

Let the rules of creation acknowledge

Let this mortal be reborn anew

Let it AWAKEN as THE CHILDE OF TIME

LET THE TRIALS OF LAW BEGIN"(A)

The space turned increasingly golden and finally, it collapsed…

AUTHOR'S NOTE/ RAMBLINGS

A I think I overdid.

B Could have added this chapter to the last but just felt it would have more impact alone.
