Chapter one

Uju reclined on her single couch and looked through her window. The curtains would have prevented her from seeing the drizzling rain if not for the fashionable holes made on it. Seemed like the maker of the curtain had added such holes in case of peeping situations. The room was moderately sized with a long standing mirror at the left side. A basket of cutleries and a wardrobe of clothes were at their respective positions. Her books were also arranged neatly. A couch was at the same position with the bed. The television set with a decoder was directly opposite the couch and bed. Her table which was close to her mirror had her make up. Fresh fragrance emmitted from the room always.

She normally sits on her couch when she's giving life a hard thought. But today she just sat on the couch with no thoughts. The constant sounds on her zinc left her with no other choice than to look across her window. It was a hectic day at work and she shouldn't be so concerned about the growth and popularity of the company.

"Should I ? " she thought within. Just then her phone rang. It was an unknown number.

"Hello" she said on picking up

"Uju are you home? " the caller asked her. She immediately recognised the sound of that familiar voice. It was Williams ( her boss). In realisation, her face became a mask of anger ( although he wasn't going to see that anyway)

"Yes I'm home already" she replied bringing her voice low.

"Good evening sir" she quickly added.

"Uju what's it ? " Williams asked her

"What's what sir ?" she asked dauntlessly

"Uju why the hide and seek game. Why?" he asked her and Uju took a deep breath. If not for the fact that Williams was her boss, the anger written on her face would have given her no option than to give him the ridicle of her life.

"I know you may not have interest in me because I'm holding on for my brother and all the money on my desk are not mine but life is way more than that. Uju just accept me into your life and we'll ride safely on our boat." he vocalised.

This time Uju was going to shout but her vocal cords won't allow her to. Maybe it's not in her nature to do such.

"And sir" she paused, took a deep breath and continued

"Sir I've told you it's not about money or whatever. It's about my belief, it's about my life, it's about who I am. I can't useless myself at all. I'm a believer for crying out loud. I don't indulge in such illicit activities"

"So when it's time for you to get married ......." Uju interrupted him

"When that time comes it'll be mine to handle not yours." She sounded like nothing could change her mind.

"So Uju you won't have anything to do with me even after my constant plea?" Williams interrogated.

"Yes I won't"

"You won't ?"

"I won't"

"Seriously ?"

"If there were a better word than that I would use it" Said Uju.

Williams sighed

"Sir I've told you times without number that I'm not interested in you. I can't trade my job for a relationship that I don't cherish. I'm not your type. Find her and stick to her." Uju said.

"Wait a minute, are you trying to say that your job is the major barrier for you to accept me ?" he asked and laughed excitedly but quickly.

"Why didn't you tell me since. In maths when there's a barrier that can be easily cancelled out, we draw a line over them" he demonstrated with his hand as if Uju could see them.

"My dear there's no issue here. All I need to do is to find another job for you with a good pay and then we elope."

"Aaaaaaagh" Uju yelled

"Uju what's it?" Williams asked immediately.

"You" she responded angrily

"Me ?"

"Yes you"

"But how ?" Williams asked confused

"Sir" Uju called him

"I told you to call me Williams when we're talking alone." That statement didn't seem to make any sense to Uju as she called him sir again.

" Sir I'm not interested in you, period ! Not because of anything but because I'm born again" Uju had raised her voice

"But how do you intend to see a good husband to marry with this your snobbish attitude ?" Williams fired

"If no one can put up with me why are you disturbing my life with your pleadings ?" Uju fired back

"Well it's not........" Uju interrupted again

"Let the marriage thing be my cross to carry" She said fearlessly

"What ?"

"You heard me right"

"I'm acting as a father to you Uju, Listen to me" Williams said admidst confusion.

"I have one already. So if you'll excuse me, I have an important document to prepare. Good night." She said and hung up.

"From Husband to Father" she muttered

"God forbid, he can never be my husband" she crossed her hands over her head to symbolise that.

She then brought out her laptop and settled down to prepare the documents. This time she sat on the floor. Suddenly she brought out her phone and connected her head phone through the Bluetooth to it.

"At least Lauren Daigle's song will do me no harm" she muttered again and started typing.
