Chapter 59 - Drops That Drip on the Blade

Upon opening his eyes, a raindrop struck each one of them, and the inexplicable bluish light made his vision blurry. Noah wiped his face as the sound of a tongue click echoed. As he did so, a woman—with her sweet, beautiful, high-pitched voice—began to say:

— Where is the young lady?!

Hearing that voice, Noah slowly opened his eyes and, shortly afterward, regretted his decision. In that moment, he already felt that things were likely not going to end well.

Raindrops fell in his hair, trickling down his face and dripping to the ground after sliding off his chin, almost as if they were sweat. Even if it probably wasn't his sweat, his nervousness was so intense that it hardly seemed out of the question.

His heart raced, and although at that moment he wasn't overly concerned about it—since it was the least of his problems—it was clear that his entire body was trembling slightly.

And why wouldn't it be? For as he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the gleam of the moon reflected off the blade of a sword pointed directly at his chest.

Noah, with a sword aimed at his chest, found himself surrounded by five people. The other four were dressed entirely in black Hanfu, and something resembling a scarf covered their faces—most likely to conceal their identities.

As the only woman in the group—also the only one among the four with long, light hair—knelt before Noah, she said:

— I'll ask you one more time. Where is she?

Confused, Noah muttered to himself:

'Your young lady? And how the hell am I supposed to know where she is?!'

He discreetly scanned the rest of the group, giving them brief, trembling glances—not by choice, as even a fleeting look could betray the fear he was feeling, though it wasn't intentional.

'Are you serious that these five waited for me to wake up just to do this…? A bunch of damned idlers.'

He didn't respond, mostly because he didn't even know exactly whom she was referring to. How could he possibly come up with an answer? Meanwhile, the only sound in that place was the increasingly steady patter of raindrops, the lightning illuminating the sky, and his own heartbeats growing ever more impatient in the face of those distant green eyes.

Perhaps they would leave as soon as they realized I don't have the information they're looking for… or, at least, that's what Noah thought, since he didn't have much choice. Keeping his calm and finding a way out was his only option. But, noticing that he truly wasn't going to answer, the woman stood up, turned around, and said:

  — It looks like he knows nothing. Kill him, and let's move on.

'What?!!'
