Something that Yixing never expected to arise happened with Chao. He thought that once he would tell his family affairs to him, then just the thought of his father using Chao to gain more money would disgust him. But he was surprised.
"I love honest people," he said that night before he fell asleep, and the next morning he showed it. He called his brother and told him about Yixing.
And then they became friends.
Part of it was because Yixing was a heavy drinker, and he could usually take care of Chao, who always drank till he was unconscious.
Another reason why they became friends was that Yixing always told the truth to Chao. Because Yixing had already had enough of the machinations, his father forced him to take part in.
But, there were still many secrets between them. Even though they got to know each other, it still wasn't enough to get Chao put down his guard. And honestly, not even Yixing believed him completely.
The secrets showed when they met that one guy. The day, something happened and Yixing regretted that he wasn't more thoughtful.
Yixing had to get some books in the central library because they weren't in the economics department library. He had to run around the central library just to find out the book wasn't there at all.
He was ready to walk back to the dorms when he saw the back of his roommate. So, he decided to run towards him, regaining his usual cheerful self, and walked to Chao.
"What the hell are you doing here, pal?" he yelled, in a louder voice than he expected, startling himself, Chao, and all the people around them. When he was apologizing to those around, he noticed a small guy that Chao was talking to, running away, shivering.
He opened his mouth to say something, but he was lightly smacked over his head and hissed at, to be quiet. Yixing winced. He wasn't keen to be nagged at like a little child.
"Where the guy went?" Chao asked him after he noticed he wasn't there anymore. Not that it pissed Yixing, but he tried to tell him when the guy was running away. A funny answer formed in his head and with no compunction, he said it out loud.
"Don't know, bro. He just vanished. Is he a magician? That would be cool!" he raised his voice and ironically answered. It must have pissed Chao, but Yixing was quite amused. And that was all he needed.
Chao led him out of the building, Yixing needed to go to the restroom though so Chao waited for him outside and Yixing went alone, it would give some time to Chao to calm down.
But as soon as Yixing came in, he halted his steps. He saw the guy Chao was talking to before. But he wasn't doing what you normally do in a restroom.
He was curled in a ball, rocking back and forth, and had obvious problems with breathing. Mostly because he was sobbing really hard.
"Are you okay?!" Yixing exclaimed, and the guy on the floor jerked himself and started sobbing even more. He was almost hyperventilating.
He looked around, but he saw no paper bags or anything that the boy could breathe with. And he didn't know what else to do. How else to calm him down?
He pulled out his phone and wrote a message to Chao. They knew each other, so maybe he would know what to do. But Chao wasn't even reading it.
Yixing wrote another two messages, Still nothing. Another two. If those weren't enough, he would go and run to Chao. But he was scared to leave this guy here.
"What to do, what to do?" Yixing murmured to himself and slowly paced in the restroom. But he heard the door open. He was ready to ask this person for help, but he saw it was Chao.
"Finally!" he shouted again, forgetting that the guy on the ground was probably scared of loud noises. But Chao said nothing to Yixing, he just slid down to the guy and whispered something.
"I will help you. We can look for it together." Yixing heard him say and frowned because he had no idea what was Chao talking about.
The door opened again, and a guy wanted to walk in, but Yixing stopped him. He made up an excuse because he thought that they probably needed some private time. Given that Chao was holding his hand and murmuring something. It might have looked like something more intimate.
And to be honest, even to Yixing it looked hella intimate. They were looking into each other's eyes, whispering calming words and holding hands.
"Was it him? The trigger?" he heard Chao ask, and he was in utter shock. Was he really that loud? Worried that he might trigger something again, he made two steps back. And when he saw the little guy nod, he made another one.
"So, when Yixing shouted and was so close, you got scared?" Chao asked so that Yixing could hear him too, and when he saw another nod, he knew it was his time to go out. No way in hell he would risk another attack like that. That was something he didn't want to see ever again.
"Okay, I know, I know. I'm waiting outside of the library. Take your time. If anything, message me," he whispered and backed away from the toilets.
But he stopped in front of the door. Because he knew that if anyone would come inside loudly, the progress Chao made would be lost again. His premonition became true almost when a classmate came laughing aloud, intending to go inside.
"I'm sorry, but there is something happening there. Could you…?" Yixing heard the door behind him open and when he turned around, he saw Chao walking out hand in hand with the little guy.
"Nevermind, it's free now..." he said and stepped aside, letting him go in. He couldn't miss the confused expression of the classmate, together with surprise when he noticed the two getting out holding hands.
Of course, they were flushed. The little guy's clothes were messy, and he looked distressed. Yep, they looked like they were doing 'it' there. That was something he didn't have to be a part of.
"I just thought, you may need some privacy. I'm going to our room, okay? Take your time with your friend," Yixing said, grinned, and just walked away.
Now that he had more material for threatening Chao, he was satisfied even more. Yixing took out his phone once more and sent other incriminating messages to his father.
