Chapter 21: Ask Me No Questions

Alaric POV

After I leave Raven’s room, I have to rush to my own to get some relief. It took all my willpower not to grab her from the tub and have her against the bathroom wall. I buried my animalistic instincts because I know she had a long day and she was exhausted.

I also wanted to show her that I could be nice just like Carl. Even though I know she doesn’t have real feelings for him, my jealousy forced me to prove I could be a good man like him.

After her displays today, I realized how talented she is with magic, but also how much it drains her afterwards. I don’t know a lot about witches, but it stands to reason that harnessing power is something that comes with experience. And now I owe her a debt. I can’t let her go, even though she did return a life to me for the one she took. I don’t trust Lavinia and with everything going on, I’m the only one who can keep her safe.
