Chapter 28: The Truth

“My mate. We are bonded to each other. That’s why you feel this pull you can’t explain,” Rick tells me.

I was waking up as he started talking but pretended a little longer because he seemed like he was about to say something important. I thought he would stop himself if he knew I was awake. Now my brain is in overdrive because I’ve heard of werewolf mates, but I don’t understand how this could happen to me.

“That doesn’t make sense,” I say.

“It’s happened before, with my father. That’s why I was trying so hard to leave you alone,” he confesses.

“That was you leaving me alone?” I say dumbly and then add, “What happened with your father?”

“He married my mother because apparently he never could find his mate, but he was the Alpha and needed to continue the line and have children. I believe he did love her, but then later on he met Annalise. A witch. And he couldn’t stay away…” he explains but trails off.
