Chapter 54: Paying the Price

Alaric POV

“QUENTIN!” I yell, but he refuses to respond.

I know he’s right outside my cell, lurking in the shadows and smugly enjoying my predicament. The thin silver chains around my wrists and ankles are causing me excruciating pain, but they are necessary to keep me where I am. I’m too strong to be held by simple bars, even ones coated in silver.

The council decided one week in a cell should be sufficient punishment for my inadvertent crime of putting the pack in danger.

Quentin tried to argue two weeks might be better, but thankfully my former loyal Beta Sam disputed it and the decision to keep it at one passed by one vote.

I curse his name under my breath, anxious to be released so I could follow Raven and make things right. It’s only the first day of my incarceration, and I pray that she was able to make it to her father’s safely.
