Chapter 46: The Lunar Eclipse

Sawyer’s eyes fell to the document again. He looked as if he was processing everything that she had told him. It was a lot for her to take in, she couldn’t imagine what it was like for him.

“Sawyer?” Waverly asked after a few minutes of silence.

“Just give me a minute,” he said, raising his hand. He kept still; his eyebrows were wrinkled as he concentrated on a spot on the table. Then, he lifted his gaze to meet hers; they were pained and for the first time, he had realized that she could be on to something.

“Are you okay?” she questioned, stepping closer to him.

“I—” he let out a sigh.

Waverly reached out and put a hand over his across the table, and he didn’t pull back. Her thumb rubbed the back of his hand, tenderly and instead of rejecting her, he put his other hand on top of hers.

“I’m sorry,” she said, looking back into his eyes.

“For what?”
