Chapter 37: Time For Action

In a matter of minutes, there was a rushing of wind and crackling of trees. Ratchez had found us easily enough and took in the situation immediately. He snatched the winter prince in one talon and me in the other.

"I will return," the dragon growled. "Wait here, and I mean it."

With a powerful lunge, Ratchez leaped to the skies and stretched his wings. He held us close to his belly to keep us warm in the cold, night air. He glided to the left and over a river for some time before landing by a riverside house. The walls were sand coloured and smooth, and torches were burning on each side of the doors. Ten stairs were to be climbed before reaching the intricately carved doors. I wiggled to get loose, so I could run and get help, but Ratchez took care of that for me. I heard his inhale, and just had time to cover my ears before he bellowed at the doors, causing plants to fall over, doors to rattle, and beds to shake.
