Selfish

It seemed like Eunhyuk already had the thought at the back of his mind. Where was his sister?

"I'll be..back," he said and walked off hastily, looking for his sister.

Y/N meanwhile concentrated on the monitors in front of her, trying to find any trace of Eunyu. She already knew that the siblings just had each other. For whatever reason, even though Eunyu was a rebellious kid, it didn't matter to him. She was still his little sister. And...Y/N knew all too well of how it's gonna feel to lose her. As she looked at all the screens, her eyes fixated on one of them. The one in the basement. The camera was turned in a way where no one could figure out if Yikyung was fine.

Eunhyuk came back after taking a round, asking everyone on the way about his sister. "Did you find anything?" he asked. But didn't receive any answer.

"She's fine. I know she hates how you're always worried about her," she said.

"So...nothing," he said, and stared at the screen of the basement. Eunhyuk turned on his walkie-talkie, trying to get any kind of signal from her. But there was nothing.

"I told you I should've assisted her down there," Y/N muttered.

"No," he replied.

"Why not?" she stared at him and muttered, "I'm not as...fragile as you think I am."

"....you were crying in front of me just seconds ago."

"Ah!" Y/N frowned, her face turning red in embarrassment, "Tha-that doesn't count!"

"It does," he smirked looking back at the screen and sitting beside her, "crybaby."

Y/N gasped dramatically, offended of the new nickname. "And w-what are you!" she racked her brain thinking of a nickname for him.

"Your...crush?"

Y/N's face reddened, watching him laugh under his breath. Oh, he was enjoying this wasn't he? Enjoying teasing her like this? No wonder Eunyu gets annoyed at him. He wasn't serious about it, right? He doesn't know...about her crush in real right?

"I'm kidding," he said, "When are you giving me back my shirt?"

She stared at him as a realization struck her. Eunhyuk was laughing and teasing her. He was..slowly opening up to her. She felt giddy just thinking about it. He was starting to get comfortable around her.

"I'll get us some food. Try the building radio station. She...might hear you and come back," she chuckled, "Well if she wants to."

"You didn't answer me-" Eunhyuk said, but Y/N wasn't listening. She turned to take her leave ignoring his question.

She left to go the supermarket but it locked from the inside. Seokhyeon only gave food to people if they gave him money in return. It disgusted her to some extent. If there was anyone that she found intolerable other than...than her relatives, it was him. A man with ego and anger issues who should be in jail for domestic violence. She didn't want to get involved in their family issues but sometimes she just wanted to punch some sense into him. The thing is..she knew it would only make things harder for his wife.

She found an opened suitcase with food kept on a table. Picking up some instant noodles, she walked to the kitchen to get warm water. It was around dawn. They didn't really get much sleep, to be honest. They got the news from the president that kept them awake. Besides, Eunhyuk...comforted her. Her face slowly curved up with a smile, and a blush on her face.

Sure they didn't know about each other a lot but...this was a start right? He had his flaws and so did she. And this thing...the end of the world that they were facing made them rely on each other. She felt closer to him than before. Although, Y/N wasn't sure. She relied on him like many others in the building, maybe more than the others. But did he...feel the same?

As the water started boiling, she switched off the gas and a music blared on the speakers outside the building. It happened every morning, but this time it was dangerous. Quickly she poured the water on the noodles and walked faster towards the control room. She noticed Jin-ok running past her from the room.

Entering, she found that Eunhyuk got the building radio station working and was making an announcement.

"Survivors in the building, take any food, medicines, weapons you have and come to the first floor. The first floor is quite safe for now, and it will be safer to stay together. We survivors....must stick together. Please come down." his voice started shaking, "Please. I repeat-"

A noise from the speakers, interrupted him which finally made Y/N come to her senses. There was yelling and shouting coming from the entrance. She looked back at him, as their eyes met. The same thing were going on in their minds. Eunhyuk lost the signal after that.

They ran towards the door where Jin-ok was struggling, trying to go out and others were stopping her. The shutters were still opening. "What's going on!" Eunhyuk shouted.

Jin-ok ran towards him with her phone and showed the map again. "My daughter's here!" she said.

"Put down the shutters," Eunhyuk ordered one of the residents.

The woman started yelling looking at the street outside. Y/N was about to pull and force her inside when she heard hurried footsteps from the road. A girl was running towards them.

"Minju, run!" Jin-ok yelled, at her daughter. Y/N was thinking if she should run out to bring her in again. She took one step forward, but a hand on her wrist stopped her from moving. She was unable to look away, hoping for the girl to reach here faster. But luck wasn't on her side. She fell down in the middle, her knees were bleeding. As she was struggling to get up, Su-ung ran outside. He was fulfilling the promise he made to the mother.

I guess, he should've stayed inside.

Y/N watched as the tongue-monster's tongue pierced through both of their bodies. It threw Su-ung to one side and started drinking Minju's blood. She took small steps towards Jin-ok, but Eunhyuk's hand which was clutched on her wrist tightened.

It made her look at him. Oh, it was there. It was written all over his face.

Guilt.

Maybe she should've made Jin-ok look away, for her own sake. But instead, Y/N decided to be selfish. He needed her support right now. She stepped back towards him and wrapped her hands around his left arm.

When the shutters started coming down, he pushed her away, momentarily looking at her. Why was she like that? Why? She should hate him for all he was doing - for always being selfish. He looked away and ran towards Jin-ok. But Y/N was still staring.

Staring at him with eyes full of worry.
