Imminent Death (6)

Now, the problem regarding elixir… since I've revealed something like a miracle drug in front of a doctor, there's no doubt they would ask Liliath about the source.

As such, Liliath and I intend to lie about the fact that she brought it together with her during the summoning.

Of course, we lied saying that that was the only vial she brought since something like elixir is super rare.

Then comes the problem if we were to confess our words to someone who can detect lies..

Well, at least, my mom managed to strike up an agreement with doctor Trisha and Nurse Colyn regarding the elixir. Since it was dangerous for people to learn about such a thing, they were to keep it a secret with the basis being— acting with Liliath's best interest in mind. Of course, it was inevitable this news had to be to reported it to the people above.

In any case, the situation was solved and now I'm sitting beside Liliath's bed with Novelle munching on an apple slice.

"Food fed by big sister is the best," Novelle confessed, sorta..

I'm guessing it's more to do with the fact that my little sister is hungry than this notion that Liliath has a magical touch? Just maybe.

That said, I do kinda agree with Novelle.

Father and mom left the room in search of a place to eat dinner. Novelle and I decided to stay back to watch over Liliath, and in a sense, she understood how important it is for our parents to go on a date once in a while, especially after such a dramatic event that could've been prevented if only I was less stupid. And so, my parents will buy some takeaways for us.

Well, my sister wanted to stay by Liliath, which is also another reason.

Nurse Colyn brought Liliath's dinner over— and because of how Novelle reacted to her food, Liliath shared an apple slice with her.

"I agree, food fed by Liliath does indeed taste better.."

Wait..

"So do you want an apple slice too?" Liliath tilted her head and asked.

"Something's fishy.. what did you do during breakfast big brother," Novelle narrowed her eyes at me.

Shit.

I said that subconsciously didn't I?

"No.. I don't mean.. I mean.. it is true isn't it?"

"What did you do this morning while I was away—"

The little devil didn't seem all too convinced and pressed me for answers.

I turned to Liliath and shook my head, and understanding what I meant, Liliath obediently nodded in response. I'm surprised she wasn't flustered by it at all— cultural differences? Though, in what culture does the action of a girl feeding a boy signify nothing in romance?

"Big sister Liliath, what did big brother do to you?"

"Well, it's more accurate to say I did to him than what he did to me.."

Oi.. Liliath.. you aren't going to sell me out now?!

"I confessed, my feelings."

"Huh?" my little sister stared at her with fuzzy eyes.

Ah, right, Liliath confessed.

Wait, she confessed? Confessed what?

"Could it be that my words have been misunderstood?" Liliath's gaze paced between mine and my sister's stare. "You see, my special quest for this week was to confess my true feelings to Noel."

Liliath muttered something under her breath and her status window appeared.

Hm? I can actually read this. Oh, so it's possible to read Liliath's Special Quest once it has been completed.

Hold up.. confess her true feelings?

Is there something I'm not getting here? Did Liliath confess to me?

Novelle turned to me with a death glare.

"Wait a sec, maybe it's not THAT kind of confession you know?" I said in defence. I was sure Liliath said something along the lines of 'thank you for everything' before the 'ding' occurred.

Huh. So that means Liliath doesn't have a crush on me huh?

Ouch, that felt like a mental punch to the gut.

"As Noel has said.. I'm grateful for everything. I should also offer my thanks to you Novelle, thank you and your family for everything. I am indeed undeserving of all this yet, I have been bestowed it all. There's nothing I can repay you with," Liliath showed a bitter smile.

Novelle, who shifted her focus back to Liliath with a surprising frown.

"Liliath, I'll say this as me, as in, the authentic me. If repaying us is measured in materialism, please don't give it to us. If you're serious about repaying our kindness, then cheer up and be the happy Liliath we all know and love."

Liliath and I stared at Novelle.

"Noel, for a while I've thought that your sister was a genius in concealing her true self, I never thought it was to this degree.."

"Agreed. That's why you can't be fooled by her innocence. She's the devil I tell you."

"You two! I was just voicing out my thoughts!"

Liliath and I laughed at her retort.

"Thank you Novelle. Your words mean so much to me. I will definitely do my best to meet your expectations," Liliath said with a smile.

Novelle who looked like steam was coming out of her head nodded with a furrowed brow.

Well, that's my little sister alright.

Smart and cunning.

My family's little devil.

Well.

Even though I spent close to 800 points, after rounding up the rewards, we round up with a remainder of around 500 points. That's relieving. That tiny amount of elixir cost 500 points, the anti-disease serum from the starter page, around 300 points.

"I didn't think something as rare as elixir would be this affordable," Liliath said, showing me the page for the various elixir-related items present.

Affordable huh? I wonder what Liliath thinks of these quests..

Though Liliath might right, 800 points in exchange for her life is relatively cheap.

She'll be discharged later this evening, the time now being 2 pm, I'm still accompanying Liliath in the hospital.

My mom went home with Novelle, while my father was on an errand. I think he went to the editorial department, complaining that his real name had been leaked out into the public. Well, as popular as that manga was, don't you think it's too late to be hiding your own name, father? I'm sure many people would want your autograph.

Knock. Knock.

"I'm sorry for interrupting, but Mister Keaton is here to meet you two," the doctor, Trisha's muffled voice, echoed.

Uh.. did I just hear a fake cough? I'm pretty sure Liliath and I were at least half a meter apart?

Nodding, Liliath passed me my phone, I immediately shut it off.

I didn't expect Keaton to come personally.. but here goes nothing?

I walked over and opened the door.

"Good to see you again Noel," Keaton who wore a suit, holding onto a file under his arms bowed. A person who was his subordinate of sorts who stood beside him bowed as well. And that guy was holding a bouquet of flowers?

"Uh, good to see you again mister Keaton.."

Awkward..

"May I enter? I've come to visit. How's Liliath's condition?

"Yeah, please. Liliath's gotten better after giving her the elixir."

To my words, Keaton smiled. Though, I did notice a slight reaction from him when I said the word: elixir.
