Chapter 79

Silleuksa temple was a place with a long history. This Buddhist temple had been built in relatively close proximity to Yeoju city. Its buildings were situated next to a low hill, with the waters of Namhan river flowing almost next to it. The closeness to the river gave the temple both a beautiful view, as well as a defensive means in case of an attack.

Though not very large, the temple was still a rather important religious place.

A six-tier brick pagoda stood erect in a place that overlooked the river, while in the center courtyard was a seven-tier marble pagoda.

At the back of the complex one could find even more wonders.

There was an octogonal grey marble lantern, together with a bell-shaped monument of Monk Naong, as well as a stone stela. These three objects were built during the Goryeo dynasty and we're now treated like treasures.
