Kara walked downstairs from her room at the Leaky Cauldron and was taken aback by the very quiet crowd. A gargantuan man was escorting a very small boy with...an uncontrolled dark aura through the tavern. The boy had a jagged scar on his forehead, like a lightning-Harry-fucking-Potter.
The saviour of the wizarding world, adored by all, was a short, pale, and excruciatingly thin boy who looked like he'd blow over with a strong enough gust of wind.
People started rushing to shake his hand and speak to the Boy-Who-Lived, she felt bad for him. Seeing him recoil somewhat from all the strangers, she spoke up.
"Leave the kid alone will you? He's obviously not used to this.", the crowd had the proper sense to look sheepish. The giant man looked at her, slightly grateful, and she realized he didn't know how to deny them. She walked down to the two.
"Getting school supplies, I take it?"
"I-yes. I'm supposed to go to an alley-"
"Eh, who migh' you be li'tle miss."
"Kara Pendragon, nice to meet you.", she stuck her hand out to the giant man and Harry.
"Pendragon? Like King Arthur?", Harry's handshake was rather weak, she noticed. Shy.
"Yep, like Arthur.", giving him her attempt at a disarming smile, though she'd never been amazing at making people calm.
"Like King Arthur! Harry, this is his grea' grea' grandaughter herself! 'm Hagrid by the way. Hogwarts groundskeeper and keeper of Keys.", he spoke with a warmth that made Kara smile more.
"Add a dozen or so greats and you've hit the mark. Though I'm more Le Fey in the end."
"Wow, I wish I could have a Legacy like that.", Harry spoke a little more comfortably, now.
"You're more famous than me, kid. You just don't know that yet by the looks of things."
" 'arry, She 'll be in yer class. Though, probably not in yer house, as 'er stituation is a bi' differen'."
"I'm... I'm famous!? I can't be Famous, I'm just Harry."
"Okay just Harry, why don't we go get your supplies and I'll tell you about the wizarding world, as you appear to know nothing. Why is that, actually?"
The crowd that had been pretending not to listen stilled. A couple of the more intelligent crowd had guilty looks, they had crowded a kid who didn't know why. The less intelligent looked mortified that he didn't know.
Hagrid remained deathly still. Kara realized he hadn't thought about that when bringing Harry here. He moved them over to a more private part of the bar.
"Could...could you do that for 'e, 'iss Pendragon. I 'ave to get somethin' for Dumpledore at 'ringots righ' fast."
"Harry?", she asked the rather quiet boy.
"I-I guess. I don't really know what to do here."
"Ah. Hagrid, do you have his vault Key? I swear on thy honor that his information is safe."
"Ah yes! Righ' 'ere. Ah, give me a sec…'ere ye go 'arry.", he handed Harry a gold key.
"Well, we'll be off. Thank you Hagrid."
"Yer welcome. 'ave fun Harry."
"Ye..yeah. Thanks Hagrid."
Kara gently tugged Harry towards the stairs as she had to grab a couple things first. When they reached outside her door she had Harry wait while she grabbed her own vault keys, Excalibur, his sheath, and her wand.
"Shall we?"
"Yeah. Thank you for yelling at them by the way. I don't like so many people."
Kara chuckled and began walking, "Couldn't tell, Harry. Let's start from the beginning, what do you know about the Wizarding world."
"I know that they all know who I am."
"Yeah, we'll wait a bit before we explain that.", She casted her charms on Excalibur and her bag.
"What do you want to know?"
"Everything, I guess. I really am very new."
"Let's start with magic, then. Each wizard has a 'core', I guess you could call it. Everybody's core is slightly different. Your core is like a second set of Genes, it holds your magical heritage. Half your mom's, half your dad's. Some wizards cores give them special abilities, most common being Parseltongue, well, not in Britain, but that's a different story. Another less common but more obvious one is a metamorphmagus, or wizard that can change their appearance. The magical 'core' of a person can also be modified."
"Why do you say core with that tone?"
"Well, it's not a core like you'd imagine, it's more like a nervous system or organ. Just not...physical. Metaphysical is the term non-magicals use, but that's a bit advanced and not entirely correct."
"So I have a Core with potential weirdness."
"Yes. Be proud of that. Most wizards are 1st generation, or the first in their families to be a wizard, here they're called muggle-born. Families of wizards are called purebloods, which is wrong in my opinion, but that's how the potential weirdness happens. Wizard families develop gifts in their lines for certain subjects or concepts as they go. Potters are known for powerful Animagus transformations, which is shape shifting. Though I don't think there's been a registered Potter Animagus for a while. Another notable one is the Lovegood family, who are known for mage-sight, but they're... eccentric."
"Are the Pendragons known for anything? Well, you know, other than a sword?"
"Actually we're known for Alchemical ability, and a lot of modification. We're intertwined with the Le Fey and Ambrosius lines, like I said before. Personally, my eyes are actually constructed and my...well, that's a story for another time. I'm personally not fond of most wizards though."
"What are witches?"
"Female wizards, I'm just speaking quickly."
"Oh, sorcerers?"
"Like...wizard Phd's. Incredibly strong and rare, lots of research time. I've only met 3 and I've met more than most. Headmaster is one, chief one actually."
"Am I.. supposed to know magic for Hogwarts?"
"No, I'm the outlier here. Some purebloods will know a bit."
"Okay. Where are we going first?"
"Ollivander's. Right here, actually, after you."
"Ah, Miss Pendragon again. And...Mr Potter. It feels like your parents walked in just yesterday. Well, shall we?"
20 wands later, Harry had his phoenix and Holly wand and a vague comment about his scar.
"What was that about?"
"I'll tell you after. Let's get to your vault, wand is your birthday present from me."
"Oh..I didn't even-"
"You're fine. Vault time!"
