Cramming around a Campfire

A crackle came from the bushes, out stepped two figures. Each of them carrying their finds, they were smiling. Neither of the noticed the Campfire burning, it was not until they had stepped into the campsite that it came into their view. Errit sat motionless by the fire with his skillet, grilling his dinner in the night air.

"Geez, Fuck that smells great" The figure's smile contained a lot of sharp teeth. He looked like a werewolf, Errit ignored him and kept watching the food. Feeling slighted, the Beastman charged closer to the fire, moving swiftly. Errit's eyes darted in his direction and the chains slapped at the beastman's hand, tearing the hide from the back of his palm.

"Did it look like I was offering my meal to you?" Errit stood up, startling the two adventurers.

"He didn't mean it, you can relax. Rex, lets go, we've got a great haul. We so don't need this shit right now." Felicity looked griefed and annoyed at the same time. "Fucking asshole, I said quit it." Her voice snapped Rex out of his mood and he backed up a bit reluctantly.

"What? You think that I'm afraid of this whelp?" Rex slammed his tail against a rock, splitting it.

"You should be." Errit rose into the air on the chains and stared the couple down. "You dare interrupt me, then insult me. Leave now." His eyes glowed a copper color as he rose into the air towering over them.

Rex flexed, shot metal bars from his forearms bringing him up to Errit's level and boasted "I can do that too!"

"I SAID DOWN BOY!" It was a sentence that infuriated Rex. His ears went back and he climbed down, the metal bars remained jutting from the ground. "Sorry, Like I said, he gets like this. Rex. Get over here and sit down!" Felicity pointed at a stump.

"I'm glad you two have made up your minds, now.. I'm getting back to my dinner which is probably burning. Either shut up or leave." Errit lowered himself with the chains then used one of the remaining links to adjust the coals of the fire. He used great care not to send ashes up and into his food.

The Smell of roasting meat and herbs was driving the pair insane as they watched, drooling. "Exactly what are you making? It smells fantastic." Felicity broke the silence.

"Some sort of rabbit." Errit passed over the hide.

Rex inspected it. "Jackalope, little fuckers are great thieves. Too bad you're eating it, they make fantastic pets when trained."

Errit pulled out his notebook and wrote down some new notes.

"Yeah? What else could I do, I can't say I've seen too much wildlife that didn't look like it could eat me. You said this thing was a thief? What do you mean by that?" Errit turned away, then swapped the Aura Detecting Mask for the Blackout Hat. The food was nearly ready and he didn't want something in the way.

"Jackalope steal anything reflective, they were created by the Vampire Race over a thousand years ago through genetic manipulation. The original intent is rumored to be that they wanted to destroy all the mirrors of the world, who would suspect an innocent looking bunny. It wasn't the case, Jackalopes have been stealing weapons from soldiers for generations while they slept. Keep your things guarded well when on the plains, that's what my grandmother use to say." Rex pulled out some of his dried meat and bit down. The smell of the roasting meat had driven his hunger to the extreme.

"I don't think I can eat all of this. Since you've shared with me, I'll share with you." Errit pulled a piece of meat from the pan with a knife and pointed it toward Rex's drooling face. "Hurry up before I change my mind. Do you want any?" he looked over at Felicity and offered.

She declined with a simple wave and looked ready to speak. Errit bit down on his food and chewed slowly. The meat was tender even though it had roasted. The boneless meat was easy to swallow,

Rex wondered where he had learned to clean an animal like that but didn't ask. "What's your name?"

"Kink." Errit flexed his hand and tossed out a chain link to grab at the pan. It brought it to his hands, it was hot." 'Che, che, che' He tossed it around in his hand and then stored it away in the ring. Slightly embarrassed, he rubbed the back of his neck. "Anyways, I have a few things to ask. What are you doing out here? I come here for peace during the night, but I've heard a lot of footsteps in the distance. Did something happen?"

"Did something happen? Did you hit your head, are you blind? A few hours ago, massive energy levels were present in the swamp. Now we can barely feel traces. That's what led us to you, we thought maybe a fragment was here but we only found this campsite." Rex started to act cocky again and grew sarcastic in his remarks.

Felicity stopped him, interrupting the one sided conversation. "There were tons of herbs out tonight, we both felt it pretty strongly when we were walking toward the gates. I don't think anyone nearby can ignore it, you don't smell that?" She sniffed at the air.

Errit smelled his armpits and then the air.. he couldn't tell the difference. 'Maybe I stink..' Errit looked around and noticed a Moffit seed rolling its way down the tree. Picking it up he hung it in front of him, you mean like this little thing. Errit tossed it in his hand, it was sticky. He flung his hands free of the iich and put the slug looking bean away. "Yuk.. Moffits. I didn't think it would be this slimy."

"Yeah, like that one. Damn.. I didn't even see that. Look up, there are hundreds of them." Felicity smiled and stood.

Errit jumped into the branches and started waving his hand, taking all the Moffit seeds into his storage. When he landed, he passed a small pile to each of them.

Neither of them could believe that he would give the seeds away, Moffits were pretty rare in the area, the wildlife would mostly get at them. "Umm. Thanks." Rex begrudgingly took the slimy slug beans and stored them away. His hands were covered in the iich, flicking them he saw the tattoos on Kink's arms. "Tattoos? I haven't seen a magical Tattoo before." Rex lightened up and inquired about the tattoos on Kink.

Errit didn't feel like explaining, "I've had them for as long as I can remember, they help me remember who I am." It wasn't a lie.

"Well, its dark and now its late. You should come to town with us, our adventure party could always use another." Felicity sparked some jealousy from Rex as she spoke. He turned with a disgruntled look on his face, she continued. "Or.. maybe not." She smiled coquettishly and jumped onto Rex's back. He climbed the tree and leapt from its canopy toward town.

"Fuck, I've gotta read this shit." Errit sat back down and studied the book.
