Furrious Fitchet

It was a question that had happened ever since he put the sign outside. Errit was busy, super busy.

Sitting on a stool outside with a clipboard was a very appealing doorgirl. She lined everyone up and brought them orderly into the store after telling them how the promotion worked. There was almost no end to the line that was forming outside, some of the guards had even joined in the line. Their presence made the arguments and complains less frequent, which made everyone feel a bit more at ease.

"If the Guards were in the line, then it must be legitimate." A few of them mentioned.

"That's the new appraisal shop opened up in the district, its great.. I heard that the guy is making you write everything down. He'll be out of business by next week." A Man chugged his drink while sitting at the Cafe across the road. Slamming it to his table he looked over at his friend.

Both of them had grins, it was easy enough to destroy an appraiser. The fastest way was to find something they would surely mistake for another item. Formal inquiries about mistakes or misleading information always ended with a strike on the appraiser's record. After the third, they were goners. "I've got at least five things he won't be able to identify, what about you?"

"Do you really have to go that far? I don't like competition either, but trying to destroy his reputation isn't going to do you any good. Look at that line." He pointed as Errit stepped out of the building and called the next in line. Everyone that was exiting had smiles on their faces and carried the writs in their hands. Most rushed directly toward the depository. "If he wasn't good at what he's doing, he wouldn't be so busy. But, do you really think you can beat that deal? I don't think you can."

"No shit asshole, I'd have to start paying them just to take a look at their items. He's only been an appraiser for a week, how long did it take you to get to that point? Oh shit, here come the guards again." They hid stares gently and watched from afar.

The Guards walked right into the building.

Then, they left.

"!What?" The taller Fitchet man fixed his small eyes on the scene.

The Guards had left with sad faces. They looked enthusiastic when they entered and not even a few moments later they were sulking away. "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?! Can you believe this shit, they couldn't even arrest him.. fuck this, I'm going over there to see what the hell is going on!" Angry, he ground his teeth while he spoke.

He scrambled across the street, dodging a few carts and pedestrians. When he was about to enter the door, he saw the sign.

"Free Appraisal. 100CP reward if I can't Identify your items." 'Fuck you buddy, not on my watch!' The Fitchet man kicked over Errit's sign and started to jump on it. It cracked.

When the crack appeared everyone in the line moved back.

There was an incident the previous day, the Fitchet man must not have seen it otherwise he wouldn't have done something that rash.

The Girl in the seat stood up and turned to the small beastkin and punted it through the glass windows of the store. He was pinned to the regular staircase that went up to the bedrooms. "Sorry, Boss. We have another one." She turned and walked outside.

Waving her hand, the glass and front of the building started to reform, realigning itself to its original position. With a final snap, it was reformed and back in place.

Inside, Errit paused what he was doing. He apologized to the customer and shot a chain up to catch the Fitchet man standing on his stairs. "You. How dare you interefere with my business. Do you know what that sign is made of? 100000Cp.. Now, Or I will take your assets as payment and then toss you to the guard."

"What the hell are you talking about, that sign outside was just some cheap wood and paint. 100000Cp my ass, call the guard you stupid twit. Lets see how long this place lasts after that!" The Fitchet man was relentless, even as he was being choked by the chains against the staircase. Errit didn't bother getting up from his seat.

Another chain appeared and started rifling through through the Fitchet while he struggled and kicked. 'Nothing?' Errit stood up.

His eyes flickered with a golden purity, different than the last few times he had been enraged. This time, he was feeling greedy. A bit of the life energy from the Fitchet started to seep into the Chains, driven on their own prehensile movements. Errit threw him to the ground and stripped him bare, his coat, his belt, weapon and dignity were all taken in an instant. Then he saw it. A ring around his ankle, it was a bracelet. Errit held the beastman upside down and took the bracelet.

Tossing him outside through the window, the woman checking people in snapped her fingers once more and fixed it. The damage that kept occurring didn't even phase much of the people surrounding the building. Apparently, things like this happened all over. Simple repair spells were nothing.

As he came to a skid in the street, his friend came running from across the street. He called for the guards, but they took the pair of Fitchets away. The next in line was a lieutenant from the city guard, he had seen everything up to that point. "Take these instigators away, Bring me the other one's possessions. As his accomplice he will face the same punishment."

After accepting the items from the other guard, the Lieutenant walked inside. "Can you please tell me if these are worth anything?"

Errit's face twisted underneath the mask. He wanted to burst into laughter at the situation but he felt sort of bad that the guy who kept his cool had his assets seized by the guards. All of that changed when Errit was handed a set of keys and another spacial ring.

"These probably belong to that pair we just took away." He pointed to the sliver that looked like a standard door lock talisman. It was shaped like a Key Card but it was a little bit thicker and much heavier.

'Key Card, Talisman?' Errit fumbled with it in his hand.

"I wouldn't know where to begin on the lock it opens but, if its from those two its probably at their quarters. They live near the Depository and the Market lanes." Errit nodded as the lieutenant finished talking.

He then asked. "So.. What did you want me to take a look at?" The officer pulled out a stack of grasses and herbs. There were a few auras among the stack but it was mostly trash.

Errit started to pick through them and placed the useless things to the side. When he was done, three herbs were left and one bar of metal. 'Not bad for just picking things up, these guys are doing the work for me.' "These four are somewhat useful, the rest are regular ornamental grasses and flowers, though, I'm sure they smell nice." Errit stared at the nose on the Nyankin Lieutenant that was covered in pollen. 'Had he been out searching and sniffing at every flower in the area?'

"These two are Willicks Tongue, one male and one female. They both can be used in silence spell formations, pretty common but harder to find because of their burrowing nature; This is a bar of Greensuup, the make kid toys from it. Its metallic but its bendy and doesn't cut on its sharper edges. But this one.." Errit picked up the flower, "This one is a Song Sphere, don't blow on it, they only work once. When blown it will play a tune that will put anyone to sleep nearby. I advise you to stuff your ears shut before using it if you do." Errit set the flower down gently and waited for the Cat Man to do something other than sit in front of him. "Are you going to write that down or what?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I was just caught up with what you said, sorry. Could you repeat that?" He smiled and tried to play off his absent mindedness.

Errit sighed. "Fine, but if you don't write it down, i'm banning you from the store. This is the second time you've not written down the information this week. I have a line out of the door and I'm not even charging. Make sure to tip my greeter on your way out." Errit was ready to deal with the next in line. The Guard grabbed a paper from the stack and started writing as fast as he could.

'That's better.' Errit grinned. 'This could be power, but this could be a problem later..'
