The Pursuit

There was no one I could trust. Everyone seemed to be a suspect.

How would a nurse in this hospital be so close to my mom and refuse to tell me what their relationship was?

I checked my pocket and found a paper.

What is this?

My mind quickly went brainstorming, I remembered it was the phone number of the good samaritan Mr Frank.

"Finally! Heaven gave me an answer" I still didn't have a phone.

My life is one big rollercoaster.

I begged a cleaner nearby to use her phone and she was obliged.

Of a truth something good came my way.

It's ringing!

Excitement rushed into me as I was waiting to hear his voice.

"Hello" I heard his voice and had this feeling of relief.

"Good day sir, it's me Daisy; the girl you helped" I rushed my statement didn't want to get caught by anyone.

"Oh how are you, what's wrong" he spoke with so much concern.

"I need a place to stay" I was trying my best to speak as coherent as possible.

"Alright I would come pick you later today" I haven't seen someone as nice as him.

He is really an angel.

How about my dad because I don't want to leave him alone.

I have not really freshened up, haven't had any good food.

"Please God help me!" I had no other person I could call.

I would always hear people say God answers those in need.

Right now I needed that answer.

I gave the cleaner her phone but begged her to tell me when he calls.

I was happy with everything going on now.

I was pacing to and fro the lobby still trying to let time fly pending when he comes.

"What are you doing?" I heard that voice that quickens fear in me.

Looking back to you know who!

Mrs Shalom!

"G-o-o-d evening ma" I spoke trying to dry up the sweat that came up from no where.

"I asked what you are doing here, I noticed you have been pacing since". She looked concerned.

"Nothing I am just trying not to sleep" I gave a fake smile and my reason made no sense.

"Ok" She gave a puzzled look.

"I want you to come and stay with me in my house" she gave those warm fussy look.

Who was she trying to impress?

"Well I have other plans" I wonder how on earth she would think I would follow her home.

I am not seven years old!

She looked sad but quickly changed her mood.

"No problem, just be fine" she gave a more faker smile.

"This is my complementary card" she stretched it to me and I took it.

"I am not calling!" I said to myself.

I can really be a handful sometimes.

The edge of the bridge wasn't the end but the beginning of the fall.

Bones would scatter, flesh would peel.

Certainly reality would disappear, beyond the bridge there's nothing to hold onto.

I have gotten to the edge of that bridge.

"How do we proceed" I spoke to Ash expecting some directions.

No reply!

Not again.

"You can't keep doing this!" I was getting angry with this ghosting thing.

Then they started again, the monsters in my room.

"Once a beautiful princess, now the rejected in both worlds" I could hear them laugh.

I placed my hand trying to suppress the pain.

"You all have done enough! For many years I lived in the constant reminder of my uselessness." I was so furious at my present state.

"But isn't your fault, you caused it all!" The walls barked at him and I tremble.

"For every moment you cried, remember you are the monster" I could feel the room getting smaller.

Every part of it re-echoed one word.

"GUILTY!!!"

Shut up!

No!!

The more I tried to silence them, the more memories of everything came to me.

That night!

"It wasn't my fault" Tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Betrayer! Murderer! liar!" it felt like I was held by the hand and taken down memory lane.

"It wasn't my fault!!!" I screamed so loud and the pain got more.

"Aren't you supposed to beg for death, people like you don't deserve a second chance" How on earth did I get here.

I broke down, like an old car with no more engine.

I just stopped, "I am sorry".

The cleaner came to me indicate that I had a call.

I had so much excitement, finally something good.

I noticed Mrs Shalom looking curious as to my communication with the cleaner.

By this time, I had come to know the cleaner as Madame Comfort.

A very nice woman, she reminds me of my school's history teacher; Mrs Caroline.

Same way of walking and same smile but Mrs Caroline can be difficult most times especially when you forget some of those dates that I care nothing about.

Madame Comfort looked so tired and whispered to me that he was outside.

I walked out not trying to draw attention to me most especially from Mrs Shalom and Nurse Nancy.

I got to the hospital's car park and I saw that old truck.

It wasn't the finest automobile but it gave me peace.

There he was; my helper. I won't deny he looked more handsome now.

Well, a lady has to notice.

I walked up to him and I hugged him. The relief of knowing someone still care for you.

No best friend

Dad's condition.

Mom uncertain whereabouts

And finally the death threat.

I cried on his chest, the big girl in me gave way.

"Just let it out." He tapped my back giving this calming comfort.

We entered the truck and drove to his place.

On a normal it is wrong to go to a man's place late at night but I had no option.

There was so much traffic on the road and I was so tired.

"We are being followed" he spoke and brought me out of my relaxed mind.

Followed?

How!

He looked at his side mirror and pointed that red Toyota Camry had been following us since.

"Oh my God!!" My head kept screaming.

So I can't have peace of mind?

Why are they after me?

He drove so fast but the truck couldn't give that much speed.

"They are catching up" he said trying to make a left turn with so much speed.

What have I done?

I have placed Mr Frank in danger.

We got to a dark Ally and quickly came down.

He took hold of my hand and we went to hide.

Not quite long, I heard the sound of a vehicle packing.

There they were, they checked the truck and saw no one was in.

"Where did she go to?" I heard that familiar voice

Rakas!

I began panicking, I was afraid.

What if he sees us? I don't want to die this way.

"They must have not gone far, find them!" He screamed at his men to go look for us.

Mr Frank kept my mouth shut as we hid in a pack of Trash.

The smell was choking, I could barely breathe.

He was coming, one of his men came to the trash side.

And I could see the attention he put in checking out the trash.

What if he sees us?

What if?

"Boss!" He called for the attention of Rakas.

Wait!

As he seen us, what happened!
