Was It Too Much To Ask?

[GRANT]

Grief was not something to be toyed with and as Delbert watched Grant talk of what he intended to do to get the empathy and sympathy of the people of card, he felt like strangling the man.

He was disgusted completely and utterly. He had never thought there would come a time when he hated anyone as strongly as he hated the people who had broken his brother's heart years and years ago.

Grant was taking the trophy for that one and it was unsettling. It wasn't supposed to be like this. For a moment, Delbert wondered how cruel the fates had been to his brother for them to consider such a low life as a man who was fit for his younger brother.

Alanor truly deserved better and for the hundredth time since he had known his brother's Erasthai, Delbert was glad Alanor had chosen Unar, even if it was just for revenge.

He had saved himself the horror of having to deal with a man as pitiful and distasteful as Grant. It was even a wonder how the man had managed to keep his position in the royal council and even as an enforcer because this was peak insanity.

There was no other way around it.

And Delbert hated him.

Oh, he despised Grant Hindley with his entire being.

"That will be some class act you have to put up," Delbert said, trying his best to not show just how disgusted he was by the man. Hell, he was trying to be the best version of himself because he had made a silent promise to his Erasthai back at his home.

Otherwise, this man would have long been a goner and Delbert wouldn't even feel an ounce of regret for what had been done.

Grant just smiled like this was normal for him. It was almost like faking shit was not supposed to be that hard and even worse, that it came naturally to him, and boy was it crazy.

They had been through so much shit one too many times but non as close as this one. Delbert hated the fact that even in his supposed death, his Erasthai was never going mean shit to the bard the fates had mated him with.

It broke his heart to such a great extent that the junior warrior just sighed softly.

He wasn't sure he wanted to voice whatever was left in his way, because if he did then he would be put on trial by the Lycan king instead of the werewolf king for committing acts against humanity.

That was not something they wanted to explore right now.

"I have no other option, brother. The king already knows that Nour died and he offered me a room in the palace. I am not sure if that is alright, but I also can't refuse because of the new position I've been given.

"Looks like I have been on my best grieving behavior," Grant said and Delbert hated him even more.

With every word that came out of the wolf's mouth, the Lycan knew that he was never going to regret killing this bastard, even if that could get him in trouble with his twin, Alanor.

Grant didn't deserve love at any point in time and he was constantly proving it.

He was a menace and there wasn't a foul in the world that could be able to plead for him anyway. There was nothing worth saving in this man and each time Delbert was finding more and more reasons to eliminate the bastard.

"If I were you, I would take the offer from King Cassius. It sounds like a really good deal and it will also help you familiarize yourself with the palace just in case you have to show it to the prince.

"It makes me wonder who the werewolf prince is," Delbert said like he had been thinking about it one too many times.

Then again, what was there for him to even think about?

He knew that this was a trap he had to set for the cruel enforcer just so his Erasthai would get his vengeance. Delbert knew Nour was angry and that there was a chance of him coming out as the Ruby wolf, but still, Delbert wanted his Erasthai to live life first.

Being an omega had been the hardest job that the young prince had been raised with and yet even then, he had managed to win in his own way. Perhaps this time he would not stop, but what if Nour asked him to take a step back?

Was that ta dela what Delbert was willing to take part in?

"You have a really good chance at being the next king's enforcer too," Delbert added just for the sake and it seemed like Grant was either buying it or the man had just gotten confused as hell.

For a moment, Grant looked at him in confusion and Debert smirked internally. The prey was taking the bait and it would just be a matter of time before the predator got what he wanted.

"What?" Grant voiced and this time, it was Delbert's turn.

The junior warrior looked at the Acrod enforcer in confusion too. He couldn't understand what he had said that could have been so wrong or triggering for the enforcer who didn't have a soul.

Or maybe the man finally figured out what Delbert was, but then again, Grant was a dumbass who always worked with what was there for him.

He never looked further, almost like his only intention this time was to prove to everyone that he would either be trusted or he couldn't. It was a stupid line of thought and yet it was one that fit Grant Hindley a little too perfectly.

"Did I say something inappropriate, sire?" Delbert asked as he looked at the man.

He had long masked his Lycan scent as always and right now he was as wolflike as he could be. It was almost interesting how fate had decided to give him the craziest of tests out there.

"Not really…. I always saw the way you looked at the omega pitifully. I didn't expect that you would be the one to suggest that I go forth with the king's offer. You are an interesting man, Cornell," Grant said in earnest.

Maybe he truly wasn't sure what to expect with the junior warrior but at the same time, it was evident that to him, Delbert wasn't a threat. Delbert was just a junior warrior with ambitions, something that interested Grant greatly.

"I just want to be on the side of the best enforcer. I want to learn what it means to be like you. I honestly hope I get to be you in the future. You are the best warrior in the kingdom and as your junior;

"... I can only hope to even come close to your accomplishments," Delbert said, careful not to puke in his own mouth.

He hated his words, but he seemed to be doing the attic and it disgusted him even more, how pathetic Grant had managed to be. What the fuck had the fates given them as the next sitting ruler?

"Well then, let's get over this grieving period and we can see where you fit, alright? Who knows, maybe you will be the next enforcer," Grant said and Delbert smiled sheepishly before they headed to the palace.
