Chapter 8

It was only the first day, but already Scott had a bad feeling about this. As he had expected, Brandon Beck was living up to his difficult reputation, barely looking or smiling at Scott during their reading. Still, despite the slight, inexplicable tension in the air, Brandon had remained the consummate professional that he was, and the reading had actually been rather good. Jake and Reiko had even nodded at certain bits of dialogue where the relationship between the two leads really shone through. The more Scott read the script, the more he liked it and felt comfortable with it. Brandon seemed to like it too, although Scott could hardly tell.

Washing his face seemed to help him wake up a little, and Scott looked in the mirror for a long time. How would this clumsy awkwardness between him and Brandon translate onto the screen? They were like a study in physical contrasts. Where Scott was tall and muscular, Brandon was shorter and slight, although still toned. Scott's hair was a dirty blond, where Brandon's was so dark that it was almost black. This only served to highlight Brandon's intense, emotive blue eyes that were probably solely responsible for the numerous accolades he was always getting nominated for. All in all, Brandon was one hell of a good-looking guy, and it was easy to see the effect he had on women. And some men, as well.

Scott stared darkly at his own reflection. **Just your type too, huh, Scotty?** He could just imagine Amanda's reaction, rolling her eyes and shaking her head at him. Just what he needed. Some kind of mancrush on his co-star to out him.

There was a soft knock on the door. "Scotty? You're needed back in five." It was Pedro.

"Thanks." He picked up his towel with a grimace, not really looking forward to going back in there and being confronted by those brilliant blue eyes that looked as though they could see right through him. Maybe one day, they really would, and Brandon would tell everyone that he was just a fraud who couldn't act for nuts. Then this would all be over and Scott would be right back to making movies like Frat House 4. It was only a matter of time.

Wiping his face, he quickly got ready and trudged back into the office, sensing Brandon's manga-type eyes on him. Boring into him.

"Scott." Jake seemed barely able to sit still, grinning from ear to ear. "I spoke to Reiko, Gary and Michelle. And we think you guys have good chemistry."

"Yeah," Brandon said unexpectedly. "I'm looking forward to working with you, Scott."

"Thanks." Scott managed a glance at his co-star, who was also smiling a little. Maybe things weren't going to be so bad after all.
