I remember Sixteen year old me leaving home for a greater chance of achieving my goals.
Was going to enter a writing contest and I have already written a script of 505 pages about an African American warrior.
My story was so good my mother was impressed, that was when I started having dreams and I wrote every single details down.
My mother knew I had talents, but for a reason know to her alone, she refused to let me leave home and enter the writing contest, so I ran away from home.
Taking a flight was the easiest thing to do, but I couldn't afford one.
My mother was a nurse, a very hardworking one. We weren't poor neither were we rich, but we were comfortable.
If I knew a time like this would come, I would have saved when I had the money, but my decision to leave home was unexpected, I didn't expect my mom to turn her back against me.
So, I took a bus instead and had to pay over $50, I didn't have much with me and I already planned how I was going to spend my money.
Where I was going to stay in LA was no problem, I have a niece who was ready to accommodate me till I was ready enough to stay on my two feet.
It was slightly drizzling the morning I left home, I headed to the bus station to take a bus to LA, but every bus said they weren't going to LA, and shut their doors on my face. I was discouraged.
They just shook their head and people pushed me away to get in the bus.
The next bus driver was kind enough to answer me.
"This isn't the right place for you to get a bus to LA, go that way. " He said.
I went the other way.
"Not that way girl, follow this woman, she would take you there. "
"Thank you very much Sir" He just nodded and drove off.
I silently followed the woman, on my way in I heard something falling and followed the direction of the sound.
On the floor I saw a little caged bird staring at me.
"Awwn, little birdie are you lost? " I picked it up searching for it's owner.
I didn't see anyone in sight.
I sighed and opened the cage.
"Here you go birdie, you are free to go"
It came out walking on it's feet, I picked it up and threw it to the dark sky, to my dismay it came falling back.
I stretched my hand catching it.
"What's wrong? You can't fly. " I answered myself.
I once heard Eva talking about her aunt's bird pet who was caged since birth and didn't learn how to fly. I felt pity for the little thing and decided to take it on my journey.
But to my dismay again, I saw a no pet sign on the door to the bus.
"Oh, come on. It's just a little bird. " I muttered to myself.
Turning to a corner I spoke to the bed.
"Okay birdie, time to name you.
I would give you the name Alhemist. I know it's a really strange name, but you look so much like the bird in my dreams, like the little version of her, so you understand don't you?"
If one could see me now, they would almost be convinced that I could speak to animals, well I felt Al could understand me.
"So, be a good girl and stay quiet, we don't want to offend anyone. "
Placing her inside my back pack I zipped it, but not entirely so it wouldn't suffocate.
Three hours into our journey, I felt sleepy. I didn't have much sleep last night as I was thinking of a plan and now the stress of it was weighing on me.
"It's a bird! Mum look, a bird in her bag."
The little girl's voice woke me up, I opened my eyes only to see everyone hovering over me.
Al flew out causing a group of cheer leaders at the back to shriek out.
What the hell was wrong with them, it's only a little bird.
The bus suddenly stopped and the driver came to look at why there were bimbos screaming their heads off.
I widen my eyes in horror as Al pooped on his head, it tickled down his face and I swallowed.
The next thing I knew I was thrown out the bus and ate the dust glaring at the departing bus.
Al just meekly looked up at me, it was still early in the morning and I had no idea where we were, I decided to walk a little, perhaps we might be able to get another bus or someone nice enough would help.
Fifteen minutes into our walk, I sighted a little shop not far away, I was dehydrated.
Stepping into the shop, I bought a bottle of water and some chips to munch on the way. I didn't buy Al anything because the shop owner said nothing in his shop was edible enough for the little bird to take in.
Not long after we left the shop, a dark car stopped and a very beautiful blonde came down smiling widely at me.
"Beautiful girl, where you headed. "
I eyed her nervously, if I wasn't stuck in this situation, I would never wait to acknowledge a stranger, but I needed a ride and my thin legs hurt already.
"To Los Angeles. "
"Oh my, that's a little far from here and am not going that way, but I can drop you in a place where you can take a bus to LA."
I gave her a bright smile and nodded my head, following her.
She wasn't the driver, a guy who must be her husband was behind the wheel and an old lady was at the back.
The old lady gave me a dark disapproving look and I slightly shivered.
Oh God, what I have I gotten myself into.
